The reduction of carbon dioxide (CO) emissions and sustainable development in low-carbon ways are of great significance to urban agglomerations. However, few studies are exploring the relationship between CO emissions and socioeconomic development at city levels from the perspective of clusters of regions. Based on the open data of inventory for anthropogenic CO emissions, nighttime light data, and population dataset as a proxy for the socioeconomic development levels of urban agglomerations, we used Mann-Kendall trend test, Tapio decoupling analysis, and spatial autocorrelation analysis to explore the spatiotemporal association of CO emissions and the impact of socioeconomic development on emissions in the nineteen urban agglomerations in China.

The tension between reducing CO emissions and economic growth has become increasingly prominent in recent years, while China is vigorously promoting ecological civilization to achieve sustainable development. However, the factors influencing China's current economic emission nexus at the regional and provincial levels and the sustainability of the strong decoupling state remain unclear. We analyze the decoupling of emissions at the national and provincial levels of the Chinese economy from the perspective of historical patterns and current drivers from 1997 to 2019.

This decoupling between carbon dioxide emissions and the heavy industry is one of the main topics of government managers. This paper uses the quantile regression approach to investigate the carbon intensity of China's heavy industry, based on 2005-2019 panel data. The main findings are as follows: (1) incentive-based environmental regulations have the greater impact on the carbon intensity in Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Henan, Liaoning, and Shaanxi, because these provinces invest more in environmental governance and levy higher resource taxes; (2) the impact of mandatory environmental regulations on carbon intensity in Beijing, Tianjin, and Guangdong provinces is smaller, since these three provinces have the fewest enacted environmental laws and rely mainly on market incentives; (3) conversely, foreign direct investment has contributed most to carbon intensity reduction in Tianjin, Beijing, and Guangdong provinces, because these three have attracted more technologically advanced foreign-funded enterprises; (4) technological progress contributes more to the carbon intensity in the low quantile provinces, because these provinces have more patented technologies; (5) the carbon intensity of Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Inner Mongolia provinces is most affected by energy consumption structures because of their over-reliance on highly polluting coal.

The unreasonable economic development model of human beings has caused the environmental pollution problem to become increasingly serious. In order to achieve a positive relationship and interaction between environmental regulation, research and development (R&D) investment, and green technology innovation, and effectively solve the "strange circle" problem between high-quality economic development and environmental pollution in China and even the world, this paper takes the panel data of industrial enterprises above designated size in Chinese mainland 31 provinces from 2009 to 2019 as a research sample. The comprehensive index of R&D investment and green technology innovation was established by the entropy method, and the panel vector autoregressive (PVAR) model was constructed from the dynamic endogenous perspective, and the dynamic interaction and regional heterogeneity between environmental regulation, R&D investment, and green technology innovation were empirically analyzed by using impulse response function and variance decomposition.

Gene-environment (G-E) interaction analysis plays a critical role in understanding and modeling complex diseases. Compared to main-effect-only analysis, it is more seriously challenged by higher dimensionality, weaker signals, and the unique "main effects, interactions" variable selection hierarchy. In joint G-E interaction analysis under which a large number of G factors are analysed in a single model, effort tailored to rare features (e.

Compared with other transportation facilities, high-speed rail (HSR) may be more beneficial to "green development." Based on a sample of 276 cities in China over 2005-2019, this study calculates the actual and change values of green total factor productivity (GTFP) with the stochastic frontier approach (SFA) and investigates the effect of HSR on GTFP using the time-varying difference-in-difference model and propensity score matching analysis. Our research results show a significantly positive effect of HSR on GTFP through reducing energy consumption and environmental pollution, as well as improving technological innovation.

Although institutional pressures have huge strategic implications for organizational activities, this certainly does not mean that organizations under institutional pressures can improve environmental performance automatically. Institutional pressures are critical but not sufficient to affect environmental performance directly. Therefore, additional research is needed to explore the missing link between institutional pressures and environmental performance.

Although the literature has studied the direction and extent of the effect of green finance on industrial-structure optimization, quantitative analysis of the coupling coordination and spatial-temporal differences between green finance and industrial structure is relatively scarce. Therefore, in this paper, we built the theoretical framework of the coupling coordination relationship between green finance and industrial-structure optimization, and then we used the coupling coordination degree and geographic detector model to investigate the spatial-temporal evolution characteristics and influencing factors of the coupling coordination between the two based on the panel data of 31 provinces from 2012 to 2019. The results show that China's green finance and industrial-structure optimization have basically reached the primary coupling, and the coupling coordination degree is from 0.

Coinfection is the process of an infection of a single host with two or more pathogen variants or with two or more distinct pathogen species, which often threatens public health and the stability of economies. In this paper, we propose a novel two-strain epidemic model characterizing the co-evolution of coinfection and voluntary vaccination strategies. In the framework of evolutionary vaccination, we design two game rules, the individual-based risk assessment (IB-RA) updated rule, and the strategy-based risk assessment (SB-RA) updated rule, to update the vaccination policy.

Dementia is an incurable neurodegenerative disease primarily affecting the older population, for which the World Health Organisation has set to promoting early diagnosis and timely management as one of the primary goals for dementia care. While a range of popular machine learning algorithms and their variants have been applied for dementia diagnosis, fuzzy systems, which have been known effective in dealing with uncertainty and offer to explicitly reason how a diagnosis can be inferred, sporadically appear in recent literature. Given the advantages of a fuzzy rule-based model, which could potentially result in a clinical decision support system that offers understandable rules and a transparent inference process to support dementia diagnosis, this paper proposes a novel fuzzy inference system by adapting the concept of dominant sets that arise from the study of graph theory.
