Key Lab of Advanced Transducers and Intelligent Control System, Ministry of Education and Shanxi Province, College of Physics and Optoelectronics, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan 030024, China.

Plasmon resonance plays an important role in improving the detection of biomolecules, and it is one of the focuses of research to use metal plasmon resonance to achieve fluorescence enhancement and to improve detection sensitivity. However, the problems of nondynamic tuning and fluorescence quenching of metal plasmon resonance need to be solved. Graphene surface plasmon resonance can be dynamically controlled, and the graphene adsorption of fluorescent molecules can avoid fluorescence quenching and greatly improve the fluorescence emission intensity.

Background: Several matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have been reported to be associated with intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) in several previous studies. However, the causal relationship between MMPs and IDD remains unclear. In this study, Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to analyze the causal relationship between the plasma levels of multiple MMPs and the risk of IDD.

Histone H3 monoaminylations at Gln5 represent an important family of epigenetic marks in brain that have critical roles in permissive gene expression. We previously demonstrated that serotonylation and dopaminylation of Gln5 of histone H3 (H3Q5ser and H3Q5dop, respectively) are catalysed by transglutaminase 2 (TG2), and alter both local and global chromatin states. Here we found that TG2 additionally functions as an eraser and exchanger of H3 monoaminylations, including H3Q5 histaminylation (H3Q5his), which displays diurnally rhythmic expression in brain and contributes to circadian gene expression and behaviour.

Notably, the C-X-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 12/C-X-C Chemokine Receptor Type 4 (CXCL12/CXCR4) signalling pathway's activation is markedly increased in a mouse model of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). Nonetheless, the precise contribution of this pathway to AAA development remains to be elucidated. The AAA mouse model was induced by local incubation with elastase and oral administration of β-aminopropionitrile.

The multifunctional fungus phanerochaete chrysosporium enriches metabolites while degrading seed mucilage of a sand-fixing shrub.

J Appl Microbiol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Vegetation and Environmental Change, Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100093, China.

Aims: The sand-fixing desert shrub Artemisia sphaerocephala produces a large amount of seed mucilage, which plays crucial roles in the adaptation of this species to desert environments. Seed mucilage has been shown to be degraded by Phanerochaete chrysosporium from habitat soils, but the process and products of this degradation remain unclear. To fill this gap, we explored the factors and processes involved in mucilage degradation.

Photodynamic inactivation mediated by natural alizarin on bacteria for the safety of fresh-cut apples.

Food Res Int

January 2025

College of Food Science and Engineering, Northwest A&F University, Yangling 712100, Shaanxi, China. Electronic address:

Most photosensitizers have limited responsiveness to visible light, however, visible light is a light source with a wide range of wavelengths and the most common in daily life, and making full use of visible light can help to enhance the photodynamic antimicrobial properties of photosensitizers. To tackle this issue, this study confirmed that alizarin has a good absorption capacity for visible light by UV-DRS analysis. Theoretical calculations showed that alizarin might be excited through the charge transfer (CT) mechanism.

Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) refers to sexual and non-sexual symptoms in men caused by age-related decreases in circulating testosterone. Leydig cells (LCs) transplantation is considered to be one of a viable approach for LOH therapy, but the limited source of LCs limits the application of this approach. The aim of this study was to induce the directed differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into LCs in vitro, and explore the potential involvement of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in the differentiation process.
