BMC Public Health

January 2025

Department of Social Medicine, School of Public Health, Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, Shanxi, 030001, China.

Background: Hearing loss significantly affects children's lives; however, the health-related quality of life (QoL) of children with this disability is not well measured. We sought to develop a reliable and valid measure of health-related QoL in children with hearing loss.

Methods: We constructed a conceptual framework to assess the QoL of children with hearing loss based on the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ Version 4.

The Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is a crucial power semiconductor device, and the integrity of its internal structure directly influences both its electrical performance and long-term reliability. However, the precise semantic segmentation of IGBT ultrasonic tomographic images poses several challenges, primarily due to high-density noise interference and visual distortion caused by target warping. To address these challenges, this paper constructs a dedicated IGBT ultrasonic tomography (IUT) dataset using Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM) and proposes a lightweight Multi-Scale Fusion Network (LMFNet) aimed at improving segmentation accuracy and processing efficiency in ultrasonic images analysis.

Shanxi province food security evaluation research.

Sci Rep

January 2025

School of Economics Management, Chongqing Normal University, Chongqing, 401131, China.

Food security is the foundation of national security, which is related to economic development and social stability. Shanxi Province, as China's grain production and marketing balance area, has rich agricultural resources and profound farming civilization, its food security situation is not only related to its own economic development, but also has a strategic position that can not be ignored in the national food security system. Based on the concept and goal of the development of food security in Shanxi Province, from the five aspects of quantity security, economic security, policy security, resource sustainability and ecological sustainability, this paper constructs the evaluation index system of food security in Shanxi Province, including the fluctuation rate of grain production and the sown area of grain, and establishes the entropy TOPSIS model to evaluate the development level of food security in Shanxi Province.

Aiming at the problems of complex stress and large deformations in the surrounding rocks of the roadway driven under the goafs of small collieries and heading for adjacent advancing coal face, by numerical modeling and field practice, the failure characteristics of the overlying coal and rocks were investigated, and the stopping and resuming times of the roadway excavation were identified. A zoning-based reinforcement technique was put forward and applied in engineering practice. The results showed that (1) The roadway roof was divided into four zones: "Rolid coal zone", "Residual pillar zone", "Roof caved zone", and "Roof un-caved zone".

Antivortices have potential applications in future nano-functional devices, yet the formation of isolated antivortices traditionally requires nanoscale dimensions and near-zero magnetocrystalline anisotropy, limiting their broader application. Here, we propose an approach to forming antivortices in multiferroic ε-FeO with the coalescence of misaligned grains. By leveraging misaligned crystal domains, the large magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy is counterbalanced, thereby stabilizing the ground state of the antivortex.

Objectives: The aims of the study are to predict lung function impairment in patients with connective tissue disease (CTD)-associated interstitial lung disease (ILD) through computed tomography (CT) quantitative analysis parameters based on CT deep learning model and density threshold method and to assess the severity of the disease in patients with CTD-ILD.

Methods: We retrospectively collected chest high-resolution CT images and pulmonary function test results from 105 patients with CTD-ILD between January 2021 and December 2023 (patients staged according to the gender-age-physiology [GAP] system), including 46 males and 59 females, with a median age of 64 years. Additionally, we selected 80 healthy controls (HCs) with matched sex and age, who showed no abnormalities in their chest high-resolution CT.

Article Synopsis
  • Spontaneous intracranial artery dissection (sIAD) is the main cause of strokes in younger people, making it essential to identify high-risk cases with symptoms that may worsen.
  • This study developed a model using blood biomarkers to differentiate symptomatic sIADs from asymptomatic cases, by analyzing sIAD tissues and serum samples collected over three years.
  • The model, validated in two cohorts, showed high accuracy in predicting symptomatic sIADs, with significant biomarkers related to immune response and inflammation identified as key indicators.

  • MPB is negatively correlated with prostate cancer, suggesting that male pattern baldness may reduce the risk of developing this kind of cancer.
  • The study used several statistical methods, including Mendelian randomization, to analyze the relationship between MPB and prostate diseases.
  • While MPB seems to lower prostate cancer risk, it is positively associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, indicating the need for proactive screening in men with MPB.

Alcohol abuse can lead to significant cardiac injury, resulting in Alcoholic heart disease (AHD). The interplay between cardiac health and gut microbiota composition in the context of alcohol consumption is not well understood. Shen Song Yang Xin (SSYX) capsule and amiodarone are common drugs used to treat alcoholic heart disease, but little is known about their microbial regulatory mechanisms in alcoholic heart disease.

The publication of several high-quality genomes has contributed greatly to clarifying the evolution of citrus. However, due to their complex genetic backgrounds, the origins and evolution of many citrus species remain unclear. We assembled de novo the 294-Mbp chromosome-level genome of a more than 200-year-old primitive papeda (DYC002).

Article Synopsis
  • ZnO/Ag hollow particles were created using a one-step spray pyrolysis method to improve antibacterial activity and promote wound healing.
  • The materials were characterized through techniques like XRD, TEM, and XPS, confirming their hollow structure and even distribution of silver nanoparticles, which enhance light absorption due to their unique properties.
  • Antibacterial tests showed that these composites were significantly more effective against bacteria, including MRSA, under visible light, as further analyzed by EPR spectroscopy which indicated the generation of reactive oxygen species contributing to their antibacterial action.

Artificial heterostructures are often realized by stacking different materials to present new emerging properties that are not exhibited by their individual constituents. In this work, non-layered two-dimensional α-MnSe nanosheets were transferred onto LaMnO (LMO) films to obtain a multifunctional heterostructure. The high crystal quality of the MnSe/LMO heterostructure was revealed by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy measurements.

Ionic liquid (IL) units in heterogeneous catalysts exhibit synergistic effects to enhance catalytic performance and stabilize catalytically active centers, while also preventing the degradation of catalysts during the reaction process. Ionic liquid units in IL-functionalized CMOF catalysts enhance their catalytic performance in a synergistic manner. However, not only are the yields of IL-functionalized CMOFs obtained with post-synthesis methods low, but they also lead to blocking of the MOF pores and leaching of the ionic liquid.
