J Transl Med

November 2024

Key Laboratory of Cellular Physiology at Shanxi Medical University, Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Cellular Physiology of Shanxi Province, and the Department of Physiology, Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, China.

Background: Aerobic glycolysis is a tumor cell phenotype and a hallmark in cancer research. The alternative splicing of the pyruvate kinase M (PKM) gene regulates the expressions of PKM1/2 isoforms and the aerobic glycolysis of tumors. Polypyrimidine tract binding protein (PTBP1) is critical in this process; however, its impact and underlying mechanisms in colorectal cancer (CRC) remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiomyocyte loss and fibrosis significantly contribute to the damage caused by myocardial infarction (MI), which leads to heart dysfunction.
  • Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes, especially when combined with Danshen decoction (DSY), show potential in improving heart recovery after MI in rat models.
  • The study found that exosomes from BM-MSCs combined with DSY were more effective than standard BM-MSC exosomes in enhancing cardiac function and structure, while also reducing damage and cell death in heart cells.

A panel of multivalent nanobodies broadly neutralizing Omicron subvariants and recombinant.

J Med Virol

March 2024

NMPA Key Laboratory for Research and Evaluation of Drug Metabolism & Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of New Drug Screening, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

The emerging Omicron subvariants have a remarkable ability to spread and escape nearly all current monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatments. Although the virulence of SARS-CoV-2 has now diminished, it remains a significant threat to public health due to its high transmissibility and susceptibility to mutation. Therefore, it is urgent to develop broad-acting and potent therapeutics targeting current and emerging Omicron variants.

CD147 promotes breast cancer migration and invasion by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition via the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway.

BMC Cancer

December 2023

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Shanxi Bethune Hospital, Shanxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Tongji Shanxi Hospital, Taiyuan, 030032, PR China.

Background: CD147, a transmembrane glycoprotein, has been implicated in various cancer-related processes but its role in breast cancer remains poorly understood. Herein, we investigated the expression of CD147 in different breast cancer cell lines and explored its functional roles, including migration, invasion, drug resistance and modulation of key proteins associated with cancer progression.

Methods: The expression of CD147 was assessed in MCF-10 A, BT549, MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines using qRT-PCR and Western blotting, following which lyposome transfections were performed, leading overexpression of CD147 in BT549 cells and knockdown of CD147 in MCF-7 cells.

Identification of immune-related hub genes and construction of an immune-related gene prognostic index for low-grade glioma.

J Cell Mol Med

December 2023

Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Institute of Integrative Medicine, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, China.

Low-grade glioma (LGG) poses significant management challenges and has a dismal prognosis. While immunotherapy has shown significant promise in cancer treatment, its progress in glioma has confronted with challenges. In our study, we aimed to develop an immune-related gene prognostic index (IRGPI) which could be used to evaluate the response and efficacy of LGG patients with immunotherapy.

Background: Recurrence is the main cause of death in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients after liver resection.

Objective: The long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported participated in progression and prognosis of HCC, however, the vital role of lncRNA in postoperative recurrence of HCC has rarely been systematically identified.

Methods: RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed between orthotopic model of HCC and hepatoma postoperative recurrent model to comprehensively analyze the integrated transcriptome expression profiles of lncRNA and mRNA.

Introduction: Albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-PTX), a novel paclitaxel preparation, has been found to successfully blocks tumor progression in breast and lung cancer. However, at the same time of as clinical application, neurotoxicity caused by nab-PTX has become the main factor limiting the clinical application of nab-PTX, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients and increases their psychological or financial burden. In clinical applications, JHGWD combined with bloodletting therapy at the end of the extremities has a positive effect on neurotoxic symptoms such as numbness, pain, and weakness of the hands and feet caused by nab-PTX.

Omicron SARS-CoV-2 mutations stabilize spike up-RBD conformation and lead to a non-RBM-binding monoclonal antibody escape.

Nat Commun

August 2022

CAS Key Laboratory of Pathogen Microbiology and Immunology, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100101, China.

Omicron SARS-CoV-2 is rapidly spreading worldwide. To delineate the impact of emerging mutations on spike's properties, we performed systematic structural analyses on apo Omicron spike and its complexes with human ACE2 or S309 neutralizing antibody (NAb) by cryo-EM. The Omicron spike preferentially adopts the one-RBD-up conformation both before and after ACE2 binding, which is in sharp contrast to the orchestrated conformational changes to create more up-RBDs upon ACE2 binding as observed in the prototype and other four variants of concern (VOCs).
