Aim: We aimed to assess the association between non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) and symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis (sICAS), as well as the impact of non-HDL-C on recurrent vascular events in patients with mild ischemic stroke ( NIHSS score ≤ 5).

Methods: This prospective study was based on data from patients presenting within 72 hours of stroke occurrence. We included patients admitted to 8 Chinese hospitals between September 2019 and November 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • Statins are commonly used to prevent further strokes in patients with mild ischemic stroke, but it is unclear if higher doses are beneficial in Asian populations.
  • A study comparing high-dose and moderate-dose statins found no significant difference in stroke recurrence rates at 3 and 12 months, suggesting both doses are similarly effective.
  • However, high-dose statins were linked to a higher risk of intracranial hemorrhage, indicating potential safety concerns with more intensive treatment.

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a prevalent chronic liver disorder worldwide. According to several previous studies, the treatment of patients with NAFLD using medicinal and food-homologous substances has consistent effects on the levels of blood lipids and blood glucose and liver function.

Objective: This systematic review was conducted to investigate the impact of medicinal and food homologous substances on blood lipid and glucose levels as well as liver function in patients with NAFLD.

Background: Bladder cancer (BLCA) is one of the most common genitourinary malignancies in the world, but its pathogenic genes have not been fully identified and the treatment outcomes are still unsatisfactory. Although the members of 2', 5'-oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS) gene family are known involved in some tumorous biological processes, the roles of the OAS gene family in BLCA are still undetermined.

Methods: By combining vast bioinformatic datasets analyses of BLCA and the experimental verification on clinical BLCA specimen, we identified the expressions and biological functions of OAS gene family members in BLCA with comparison to normal bladder tissues.

Objective: Subsequent vascular events are common after acute ischemic stroke during hospitalization. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of combination therapy with clopidogrel and aspirin among mild-to-moderate ischemic stroke patients treated within 72 h on the basis of a high-intensity dose of statins.

Methods: In a retrospective and multicenter cohort study, acute (within 72 h of onset) mild-to-moderate stroke patients were divided into aspirin and clopidogrel-aspirin groups on the basis of a high-intensity dose of statin therapy.

Objective: To identify the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of relapsing polychondritis patients with airway involvement.

Methods: Twenty-eight patients with relapsing polychondritis, hospitalised in the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University between April 2011 and April 2021, were retrospectively analysed.

Results: Fifty per cent of relapsing polychondritis patients with airway involvement had a lower risk of ear and ocular involvement.

Angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor blockers (ARBs), as antihypertensive drugs, have drawn attention for their benefits to individuals with diabetes and prediabetes. However, the direct effects of ARBs on insulin secretion remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the insulinotropic effect of ARBs and the underlying electrophysiological mechanism.
