This research focuses on the development of a novel Ru-doped TiO/grapefruit peel biochar/FeO (Ru-TiO/PC/FeO) composite catalyst, which exhibits exceptional photocatalytic efficacy under simulated solar light irradiation. The catalyst is highly effective in the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), as well as actual industrial dye wastewater (IDW), and can be recovered magnetically for multiple reuse cycles. Significantly, the PCTRF-100 sample exhibited degradation efficiencies of 99.

The first Ni-catalyzed asymmetric decarboxylative strategy for the construction of carbocycles with contiguous quaternary all-carbon stereocenters is reported. The key to the success of these reactions is the utilization of rationally designed allenylic methylene cyclic carbonates as substrates with Ni catalysis. The floppy allenylic group exerts unique electronic properties on the carbonate, which allows further asymmetric nucleophilic annulations with alkenes.

Photosensitizing metal covalent organic framework with fast charge transfer dynamics for efficient CO photoreduction.

Chem Sci

June 2024

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Biological Colloids, Ministry of Education, School of Chemical and Material Engineering, Jiangnan University Wuxi 214122 China

Designing artificial photocatalysts for CO reduction is challenging, mainly due to the intrinsic difficulty of making multiple functional units cooperate efficiently. Herein, three-dimensional metal covalent organic frameworks (3D MCOFs) were employed as an innovative platform to integrate a strong Ru(ii) light-harvesting unit, an active Re(i) catalytic center, and an efficient charge separation configuration for photocatalysis. The photosensitive moiety was precisely stabilized into the covalent skeleton by using a rational-designed Ru(ii) complex as one of the building units, while the Re(i) center was linked a shared bridging ligand with an Ru(ii) center, opening an effective pathway for their electronic interaction.

Article Synopsis
  • * A dual-rotor strategy involving single- and double-bond rotors is proposed to create effective D-A cocrystals, resulting in significant absorption from 300 nm to 2000 nm.
  • * The efficiency of PTC in these cocrystals is improved by adjusting rotor groups and substituents, with the performance linked to nonradiative decay mechanisms facilitated by the flexibility of the rotors in the excited states.

: The purpose of this work is to improve malaria diagnosis efficiency by integrating smartphones with microscopes. This integration involves image acquisition and algorithmic detection of malaria parasites in various thick blood smear (TBS) datasets sourced from different global regions, including low-quality images from Sub-Saharan Africa. This approach combines image segmentation and a convolutional neural network (CNN) to distinguish between white blood cells, artifacts, and malaria parasites.

Visible-light-induced [3+2] cycloadditions of donor/donor diazo intermediates with alkenes to achieve (spiro)-pyrazolines and pyrazoles.

To date, [3 + 2] cycloadditions of diazo esters with alkynes or alkenes have been a robust tool to generate pyrazoles and pyrazolines. However, methods capable of generating donor/donor diazo species from readily available -tosylhydrazones to furnish [3 + 2] cycloadditions, remain elusive. Herein, we describe the first visible-light-induced [3 + 2] cycloadditions of donor/donor diazo precursors with alkenes to afford pyrazoles and novel (spiro)pyrazolines bearing a quaternary center.

We report an approach for the synthesis of benzothiophene motifs under electrochemical conditions by the reaction of sulfonhydrazides with internal alkynes. Upon the formation of a quaternary spirocyclization intermediate by the selective -addition instead of an -attack, the S-migration process was rationalized to lead to the products. Computational studies revealed the selectivity and the compatibility of drug molecules showcased the potential application of the protocols.

While phylogenetic trees and associated data have been getting easier to generate, it has been difficult to reuse, combine, and synthesize the information they provided, because published trees are often only available as image files and associated data are often stored in incompatible formats. To increase the reproducibility and reusability of phylogenetic data, the object was designed for storing phylogenetic tree and associated data, as well as visualization directives. The object itself is a graphic object and can be rendered as a static image.

We report the first amine nucleophilic approach for the modular construction of enantioenriched protected α-quaternary amino acids. The key to success is the use of an alcohol solvent, which makes a rationally designed COOMe-bonded Cu-allenylidene electrophilic intermediate stable enough to couple with amine nucleophiles before its decomposition. The reaction features wide functional group tolerance with high enantioselectivity, typically >90% ee, and is amenable to the modification of commercially available bioactive molecules.

An effective yet simple approach was developed to synthesize mesoporous PdBi nanocages for electrochemical applications. This technique relies on the subtle utilization of the hydrolysis of a metal salt to generate precipitate cores as templates for navigating the growth of mesoporous shells with the assistance of polymeric micelles. The mesoporous PdBi nanocages are then obtained by excavating vulnerable cores and regulating the crystals of mesoporous metallic skeletons.

The mechanisms of action of arsenic trioxide (ATO), a clinically used drug for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), have been actively studied mainly through characterization of individual putative protein targets. There appear to be no studies at a system level. Herein, we integrate metalloproteomics through a newly developed organoarsenic probe, As-AC (CHAsNOS) with quantitative proteomics, allowing 37 arsenic binding and 250 arsenic regulated proteins to be identified in NB4, a human APL cell line.

Interest in piezochromic luminescence has increased in recent decades, even though it is mostly limited to pure organic compounds and fluorescence. In this work, a CuPz (, Pz: pyrazolate) cyclic trinuclear complex (CTC) with two different crystalline polymorphs, namely and , was synthesized. The CTC consists of two functional moieties: carbazole () chromophore and units.

The evolution of the interface and interaction of h-BN and graphene/h-BN (Gr/h-BN) on Cu(111)-Ni and Ni(111)-Cu surface alloys the Ni/Cu atomic percentage on the alloy surface were comparatively studied by the DFT-D2 method, including the critical long-range van der Waals forces. Our results showed that the interaction strength and interface distance of Gr/h-BN/metal can be distinctly tuned by regulating the chemical composition of the surface alloy at the interface. The initially weak interaction of h-BN/Cu(111)-Ni increased linearly with increasing Ni atomic percentage, and the interface distances decreased from ∼3.

Human-computer interfaces, smart glasses, touch screens, and some electronic skins require highly transparent and flexible pressure-sensing elements. Flexible pressure sensors often apply a microstructured or porous active material to improve their sensitivity and response speed. However, the microstructures or small pores will result in high haze and low transparency of the device, and thus it is challenging to balance the sensitivity and transparency simultaneously in flexible pressure sensors or electronic skins.

Epidemiological studies in high-incidence areas of esophageal cancer in China suggest that environmental carcinogen N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA) and riboflavin (RBF) deficiency may be the main risk factors for esophageal cancer. However, it is not clear that the combination induces cancer. Here, experiment (Exp) 1 evaluated the effects of NMBA and RBF deficiency individually or in combination on esophageal tumorigenesis.

The photoreduction of CO to hydrocarbon products has attracted much attention because it provides an avenue to directly synthesize value-added carbon-based fuels and feedstocks using solar energy. Among various photocatalysts, graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) has emerged as an attractive metal-free visible-light photocatalyst due to its advantages of earth-abundance, nontoxicity, and stability. Unfortunately, its photocatalytic efficiency is seriously limited by charge carriers' ready recombination and their low reaction dynamics.
