Article Synopsis
  • The use of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers for cosmetic procedures has increased but comes with risks, including rare infections caused by Serratia marcescens, particularly in patients with weakened immune systems.
  • This study presents a rare case of Serratia marcescens infection after HA injection and reviews previous cases to outline clinical characteristics, how to diagnose, and the best treatment methods.
  • Results showed that antibiotics like quinolones, specifically moxifloxacin, were effective, leading to recovery in a significant number of cases, suggesting that sensitive aminoglycosides or TMP-SMX should be used as first-line treatment for such infections.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to create and assess a Deep Learning-Based Radiomics model using a single sequence MRI that could accurately predict early Femoral Head Osteonecrosis (ONFH). This is the first time such a model was used for the diagnosis of early ONFH. Its simpler than the previously published multi-sequence MRI radiomics based method, and it implements Deep learning to improve on radiomics.

Background: Lymph nodal characteristics are highly significant in predicting the survival of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, there is currently a scarcity of studies examining their role in locally advanced ESCC. In the present study, we attempted to depict the patterns of regional lymph node metastasis and investigate their predictive potential in locally advanced ESCC.

Department of Histology and Embryology, Shantou University Medical College, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The innate immune system is the body's first line of defense against pathogens, efficiently controlling inflammation and preventing tissue damage.
  • The epiregulome, a chromatin structure influenced by epigenetics, plays a crucial role in regulating inflammatory responses and guiding innate immune cells in their specific actions.
  • The text explores how epiregulomes are shaped by gene expression changes during infections and the challenges in identifying the key epiregulome that governs innate immunity and inflammation.

Novel psychoactive substances (NPS), such as Esketamine (Esket), often contaminate the aquatic ecosystems following human consumption, raising concerns about the residues and potential ecological hazards to non-target organisms. The study used zebrafish as a model organism to investigate the developmental toxicity and ecotoxicological effects of acute Esket exposure. Our findings demonstrate that exposure to Esket significantly affected the early development and angiogenesis of zebrafish embryos/larvae.

December 2024

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Biology, College of Science, Shantou University, Shantou, China; Department of Biology, College of Science, Shantou University, Shantou, China. Electronic address:

As a typical polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), phenanthrene is often present in diverse environments, leading to severe environmental contamination. However, bacterial degradation plays a crucial role in remediating phenanthrene contamination and has been widely adopted. The widely distributed marine Roseobacter-clade bacteria are frequently found in phenanthrene-contaminated environments, but their catalyzing ability and related molecular mechanism have been rarely elucidated.

Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8ST, United Kingdom; Key Laboratory for Optoelectronic Information Perception and Instrumentation of Jiangxi Province, Nanchang Hangkong University, Nanchang 330063, China. Electronic address:

Squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCA) is one of the most commonly detected cancer biomarkers for a variety of cancers. In this paper, a microfiber ring laser biosensor with a graphene oxide linking layer for SCCA detection was proposed and experimentally demonstrated. SCCA antibody immobilized on graphene oxide surface binds specifically to SCCA, and induces refractive index variation over the surface of the microfiber biosensor, which leads to a wavelength shift of the microfiber ring laser biosensor.

Van Gogh-like 2 (Vangl2), a core planar cell polarity component, plays an important role in polarized cellular and tissue morphology induction, growth development, and cancer. However, its role in regulating inflammatory responses remains elusive. Here, we report that Vangl2 is upregulated in patients with sepsis and identify Vangl2 as a negative regulator of The nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) signaling by regulating the protein stability and activation of the core transcription component p65.
