Hemorrhagic stroke is a major global health problem requiring rapid and accurate diagnosis for effective treatment. Despite advances, current computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) frameworks rarely account for the functional impacts of hemorrhages on specific critical brain regions and lack the detailed assessments essential for precise treatment. To provide detailed insights into hemorrhages, we aim to propose a CAD framework for in-depth hemorrhagic stroke assessment in computed tomography (CT).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been heightened interest in the QT interval, a crucial indicator of ventricular electrical activity. Mendelian randomization (MR) is used here to investigate the genetic causation between QT interval alterations and COVID-19. Genetic proxies representing three COVID-19 phenotypes-severe, hospitalized, and COVID-19-were identified in over 1,000,000 individuals of European ancestry.

The first Ni-catalyzed asymmetric decarboxylative strategy for the construction of carbocycles with contiguous quaternary all-carbon stereocenters is reported. The key to the success of these reactions is the utilization of rationally designed allenylic methylene cyclic carbonates as substrates with Ni catalysis. The floppy allenylic group exerts unique electronic properties on the carbonate, which allows further asymmetric nucleophilic annulations with alkenes.

Purpose: Over the past few years, there has been a rapid accumulation of data on the use of low-concentration atropine for myopia control, especially in East Asian children, with its effectiveness varying in different studies. This review aims to evaluate the current evidence surrounding the efficacy and safety of low-concentration atropine in the management of myopia onset and progression in East Asia.
Methods: Clinical trials involving atropine for myopia control in East Asia were reviewed.

Purpose: This research seeks to assess the connection between healthy sleep patterns and the occurrence of kidney stone disease (KSD) by analyzing data obtained from a large-scale cohort study.
Methods: We examined 313,870 initial participants without KSD from the UK Biobank. Five healthy sleep factors were assessed: no frequent excessive daytime sleepiness, early chronotype, no snoring, sleeping 7-8 h daily, and never or rarely experiencing insomnia at baseline.

Objective: To assess serum inflammatory biomarker levels in patients with different subtypes of diabetic macular edema (DME).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 50 eyes from 37 treatment-naïve DME patients who underwent intravitreal injection therapy between June and December 2023. Based on the morphological characteristics of macular edema in optical coherence tomography (OCT), the eyes were categorized into the cystoid macular edema (CME) group (n = 25) and diffuse retinal thickening (DRT) group (n = 25).

Objectives: The spread of CRE has been rapid on a global scale and represents a significant challenge in nosocomial infections worldwide. The aim is to evaluate the risk factors for CRE colonization and to describe the molecular and clinical characteristics of CRE colonization in pediatric inpatients in Shenzhen, China.
Methods: We collected stool specimens from 2474 randomly selected pediatric inpatient hospitalized in 2 pediatric hospitals in Shenzhen between January 2023 and December 2023 for subsequent microbiological analysis, including microbial culture, species identification, antimicrobial sensitivity testing, genetic characterization and multilocus sequence typing (MLST).

Mechanical computing promises to integrate semiconductor-based digital logic in several applications, but it needs straightforward programmable devices for changing computing rules in situ. A methodology based on strain-governed, bistable soft shells that process digital information by interchanging their internal/external surfaces is proposed. This bistable behavior, explained via model-based design, safeguards robustness by working only once for each input pulse.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent joint disease that severely impacts patients' quality of life. Due to its unclear pathogenesis and lack of effective therapeutic targets, discovering new biomarkers for OA is essential. Recently, the role of chondrocyte subpopulations in OA progression has gained significant attention, offering potential insights into the disease.

Background: M2 macrophage-derived exosomes have been identified to modulate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. E-twenty-six (ETS) variant transcription factor 4 (ETV4) shows protumoral effects in HCC. Here, we aimed to probe whether ETV4 performed oncogenic effects on HCC by macrophage-derived exosomes and its associated mechanism.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by radical surgery is the common treatment for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. Presently, for patients with complete clinical response after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, organ preservation ("watch-and-wait" and local excision strategies) has been increasingly favored. However, the optimal treatment for patients with complete clinical response remains still unclear.

The apolipoprotein E (APOE) ɛ4 allele is a recognized genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Studies have shown that APOE ɛ4 mediates the modulation of intrinsic functional brain networks in cognitively normal individuals and significantly disrupts the whole-brain topological structure in AD patients. However, how APOE ɛ4 regulates brain functional connectivity (FC) and consequently affects the levels of cognitive impairment in AD patients remains unknown.

DNA viruses commonly utilize immediate-early proteins to manipulate cellular signaling pathways in order to facilitate their infection. Our previous research has suggested that IE1, an immediate-early protein encoded by the white spot syndrome virus (WSSV), may modulate the shrimp integrin-FAK signaling pathway. However, the specific molecular mechanism and role of IE1 in regulating this signaling pathway remain unclear.

The fingerprint features of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) are intricately linked to bowel damage (BD) in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). We aimed to develop a VAT fingerprint index (VAT-FI) using radiomics and deep learning features extracted from computed tomography (CT) images of 1,135 CD patients across six hospitals (training cohort, = 600; testing cohort, = 535) for predicting BD, and to compare it with a subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT)-FI. VAT-FI exhibited greater predictive accuracy than SAT-FI in both training (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC] = 0.
