Purpose: Cardiovascular diseases, exacerbated by cardiac fibrosis, are the leading causes of mortality. We aimed to determine the role of quercetin (QU) in cardiac fibrosis and the underlying mechanism.
Methods: In this study, 8-week-old mice were subjected to either transverse aortic constriction (TAC) or sham surgery, then they were administered QU or saline.

Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is the most common malignant tumor of the biliary system, with poor response to current treatments. Abnormal alternative splicing has been associated with the development of a variety of tumors. Combining the GEO database and GBC mRNA-seq analysis, it is found high expression of the splicing factor polypyrimidine region- binding protein 3 (PTBP3) in GBC.

Aim: To explore whether autophagy functions as a cellular adaptation mechanism in lens epithelial cells (LECs) under hyperosmotic stress.
Methods: LECs were treated with hyperosmotic stress at the concentration of 270, 300, 400, 500, or 600 mOsm for 6, 12, 18, 24h . Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was employed for the mRNA expression of autophagy-related genes, while Western blotting detected the targeted protein expression.

Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a highly malignant and rapidly progressing tumor of the human biliary system, and there is an urgent need to develop new therapeutic targets and modalities. Non-POU domain-containing octamer-binding protein (NONO) is an RNA-binding protein involved in the regulation of transcription, mRNA splicing, and DNA repair. NONO expression is elevated in multiple tumors and can act as an oncogene to promote tumor progression.

Microscopic microvascular decompression (MVD) has been considered a curative and reliable method for treating classical trigeminal neuralgia (TN) for decades. Endoscopy can provide bright illumination and a panoramic view, which enhances the visualization of the posterior fossa. In view of the above advantages of endoscopy, it gradually became an option for MVD for treating TN.

Background: XPO1 mediates the nuclear export of several proteins, mainly tumor suppressors. KPT-330 (Selinexor) is a selective inhibitor of XPO1 that has demonstrated good therapeutic effects in hematologic cancers.
Methods: We used TCGA and GTEx pan-cancer database to evaluate XPO1 mRNA expression in various tumors.

Background: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a highly aggressive malignant cancer in the biliary system with poor prognosis. XPO1 (chromosome region maintenance 1 or CRM1) mediates the nuclear export of several proteins, mainly tumor suppressors. Thus, XPO1 functions as a pro-oncogenic factor.

Ubiquitin-associated protein 2-like (UBAP2L) is highly expressed in various types of tumors and has been shown to participate in tumor growth and metastasis; however, its role in gastric cancer (GC) remains unknown. In this study, we observed that UBAP2L expression was markedly elevated in GC tissues and five GC cell lines. Higher expression of UBAP2L was associated with poor prognosis as revealed by bioinformatics analysis on online websites and laboratory experiments.

Background: Age is known to be associated with the prevalence and pathophysiology of hypertension. However, there is little information on whether age stands as a good proxy for the specific hemodynamic profile of an individual with elevated blood pressure (BP), which could be important in the selection of therapy.
Design: This is a cross-sectional study.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as key regulators of cell differentiation and development. However, potential roles for lncRNAs in chondrogenic differentiation have remained poorly understood. Here we identify lncRNA ADAMTS9 antisense RNA 2, ADAMTS9-AS2, which controls the chondrogenic differentiation by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) in human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs).

In-stent restenosis is highly related to the deposition of inflammatory extracellular matrix and the migration of endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cells. The miR-17/TIMP-1/interleukin pathway regulates vascular matrix remodeling and plays an important role in the inflammatory reaction. This study identified miR-17 and its related biomarkers in serum that potentially indicated susceptibility to in-stent restenosis (ISR) after coronary artery stenting.

Background: Blood pressure is a physiologic measure that reflects cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance. Classification by these components could be useful in characterizing subtypes of hypertension, which may have a role in selecting treatment strategies. However, hemodynamic phenotypes of a large, stable, outpatient population with hypertension remain unknown.

Changes in nighttime sleep consolidation and daytime discontinuation have been observed in early life. Yet information about societal or cultural factors remains scant for implementing sleep recommendations. We aimed to provide pooled estimates of subjective sleep duration, number of nightwakings and sleep timing; to describe their age-related trends; and to determine potential cross-cultural disparities between predominantly-Asian (PA) and predominantly-Caucasian (PC) regions during the first three years of life.

Recent studies have shown that hypertension is poorly controlled in many populations worldwide. Electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is a common manifestation of preclinical cardiovascular disease that strongly predicts cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. However, little information is available regarding the role of left ventricular hypertrophy in blood pressure (BP) control.

Lung cancers, the leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide, are characterized by a high metastatic potential. Growing evidence reveals that Spindlin 1 (SPIN1) is involved in tumor progression and carcinogenesis. However, the role of SPIN1 in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the molecular mechanisms underlying SPIN1 in human NSCLC remain undetermined.

Over the past 30 years, China has enjoyed rapid economic development along with urbanization at a massive scale that the world has not experienced before. Such development has also been associated with a rapid rise in the prevalence of allergic disorders. Because of the large childhood population in the country, the burden of childhood allergic disorders has become one of the major challenges in the healthcare system.

CD4 T-cell differentiation plays an important role in allergic airway diseases. Tumor necrosis factor receptor 2 (TNFR2) has been shown to regulate CD4 T-lymphocyte differentiation, but its role in allergic airway inflammation is not clear. Here, we investigated the role of TNFR2 in allergic airway inflammation.

Epidemiological evidence suggests that formaldehyde (FA) exposure may influence the prevalence and severity of allergic asthma. However, the role of genetic background in FA-induced asthma-like responses is poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated the nature and severity of asthma-like responses triggered by exposure to different doses of FA together with or without ovalbumin (OVA) in two genetically different mouse strains-BALB/c and C57BL/6.

Graft contracture is a common problem associated with the regeneration processes of tissue-engineered bladders. Currently, most strategies used for incorporating bioactive molecules into biomaterial designs do not work during all phases of tissue regeneration. In this study, we used a growth factor-PLGA nanoparticle thermo-sensitive gel system (i.
