Plant polysaccharides are effective components that widely present in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), exhibiting rich biological activities. However, as most plant polysaccharides cannot be directly absorbed and utilized by the human digestive system, it is now believed that their mode of action mainly involves interaction with intestinal microbiota, leading to the production of functional small molecules. The efficacy of Astragalus polysaccharide(APS) is extensive, including weight loss, improvement of fatty liver, reduction of blood lipids, and enhancement of insulin sensitivity, which may also be related to the regulation of intestinal microbiota.

Photoinduced halogen-atom transfer (XAT) has rapidly emerged as a programmable approach to generate carbon-centered radical intermediates, mainly relying on silyl and α-aminoalkyl radicals as halogen abstractors. More recently, ligated boryl radicals have also been proposed as effective halogen abstractors under visible-light irradiation. In this study, we describe the use of this approach to enable C(sp)-C(sp) bond formation radical addition of carbon-centered radicals generated XAT onto chloroalkynes.

Shanghai Frontiers Science Center of TCM Chemical Biology, Institute of Interdisciplinary Integrative Medicine Research, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shanghai 201203, China. Electronic address:

Background: As a canonical iron-dependent form of regulated cell death (RCD), ferroptosis plays a crucial role in chemical-induced liver injuries. Previous studies have demonstrated that xanthohumol (Xh), a natural prenylflavonoid isolated from hops, exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-antioxidative and hepatoprotective properties. However, the regulatory effects of Xh on hepatic ferroptosis and the underlying mechanism have not yet been fully elucidated.

A simple and efficient synthetic approach to 2-amino-9-chromeno[2,3-]thiazol-9-ones copper-promoted cascade reactions was developed. The reaction employed easily available 2-amino-3-iodochromones and amines as substrates and the targeting tricyclic compounds could be obtained with moderate to good yields. Even more important, several synthesized compounds exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activities, which suggested that this protocol may provide valuable hits for drug development in the future.

November 2023

National Key Laboratory on Technologies for Chinese Medicine Pharmaceutical Process Control and Intelligent Manufacture Lianyungang 222001, China Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Lianyungang 222001, China.

Network targets theory and technology have transcended the limitations of the "single gene, single target" model, aiming to decipher the mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) based on biological network from the perspective of informatics and system. As the core of TCM network pharmacology, with the development of computer science and high-throughput experimental techniques, the network target theory and technology are beginning to exhibit a trend of organic integration with artificial intelligence technology and high-throughput multi-modal multi-omics experimental techniques. Taking the network target analysis of TCM like Yinqiao Qingre Tablets as a typical case, network target theory and technology have achieved the systematic construction, in-depth analysis, and high-throughput multi-modal multi-omics validation of multi-level biological networks spanning from traditional Chinese and Western phenotypes to tissues, cells, molecules, and traditional Chinese and Western medicines.
