Rationale And Objectives: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common pathogenesis of dementia, and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is considered as the intermediate stage from normal elderly to AD. Early detection of MCI is an essential step for the timely intervention of AD to slow the progression of this disease. Different form previous studies in the whole-brain spontaneous activities, this research aimed to explore the low-frequency amplitude spectrum activities of patients with MCI within the default mode network (DMN), which has been involved in the process of maintaining normal cognitive function.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic liver disorder closely linked to metabolic syndrome. Identifying novel, easily measurable biomarkers could significantly enhance the diagnosis and management of NAFLD in clinical settings. Recent studies suggest that immunoinflammatory biomarkers-specifically, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR)-may offer diagnostic value for NAFLD.

This study aimed to explore the causal relationships between multiple blood amino acids (BAAs) and the Parkinson's disease (PD). We downloaded genome-wide association study (GWAS) data for BAAs and PD from the OpenGWAS database, screened single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from the data, and evaluated the causal relationship between BAA levels and PD using the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method. The sensitivity analysis was also conducted.

Department of Cardiology, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, No. 110, Ganhe Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai, 200437, China.

Evidence regarding the role of chronic low-grade inflammation in the progression of cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) and cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) is currently limited. This prospective cohort study, utilising data from the UK Biobank, included 273,804 adults aged 40-69 years initially free of CMD at baseline. CMM was defined as the coexistence of two or more CMDs, such as coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension and stroke.

December 2023

Department of Geriatrics, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, No.110 Ganhe Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai, 200437, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) can differentiate into fat cells, and this study investigates how the compound Icariin (ICA) affects this process, specifically promoting brown fat cell development.
  • Researchers used various assays to measure the expression of specific markers and proteins related to fat differentiation and found that ICA boosts the levels of these markers in BMMSCs.
  • The study concluded that ICA triggers the differentiation of BMMSCs into brown fat cells by inhibiting PDE5A, suggesting its potential as a treatment for obesity-related conditions.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease and the main pathology behind most cardiovascular diseases and the overactivation of macrophages initiates the development of atherosclerosis. However, the specific functions of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in macrophages remain elusive. Macrophages derived from monocyte (THP-1) were treated with ox-LDL and were used to generate atherosclerosis in an in vitro model.

Electronic address:

Anti-inflammation medication is one of the most important treatment for people with atopic dermatitis (AD) which presents persistent type 2 inflammation in skin lesions. Interaction between activated keratinocytes and immune cells in AD skin lesions amplifies inflammatory signaling by augmenting production of cytokines, such as keratinocyte-derived thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) and interleukin-33 (IL-33). Phellopterin is a bioactive compound isolated from ethanol extract of Angelica dahurica root which has been traditionally used for AD therapy in China.
