Osteoporosis is a common public health problem characterized by decreased bone mass, increased bone brittleness and damage to the bone microstructure. Excessive bone resorption by osteoclasts is the main target of the currently used drugs or treatment for osteoporosis. Effective antiresorptive drugs without side effects following long-term administration have become a major focus of anti-osteoporotic drugs.

Myocardial infarction (MI) may cause irreversible damage or destroy to part of the heart muscle, affecting the heart's ability and power to pump blood as efficiently as before, often resulting in heart failure (HF). Cardiomyocyte death and scar formation after MI may then trigger chronic neurohormonal activation and ventricular remodeling. We developed a biocompatible and mono-dispersed mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) divergent porous channel for dapagliflozin (DAPA) loading.

Background: With the increasing incidence and mortality of lung cancer, ground-glass nodules (GGNs) have become an ongoing public health concern. In clinical practice, the physical and psychological distress of GGN patients is easy to overlook during the follow-up after diagnosis. Such patients typically have limited medical options and few of these options involve mind-body exercises.

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is the most common malignancy in children, with high morbidity worldwide. Researches indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) played crucial roles in various cancers. Nevertheless, study investigating lncRNA long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1089 (LINC01089) in osteosarcoma is extremely rare.

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at "Ciliao" (BL 32) and "Huiyang" (BL 35) on the pain, urodynamic and the expressions of transient receptor poteintial vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and P2X3 receptors in bladder of rats with interstitial bladder (IC), and to explore the possible mechanism on EA for IC.

Methods: A total of 24 Wistar female rats were randomly divided into a blank group, a model group and an EA group, 8 rats in each group. In the model group and the EA group, IC model was established by intraperitoneal injection of cyclophosphamide by 150 mg/kg at once.

New strategy for antimetastatic treatment of lung cancer: a hypothesis based on circulating tumour cells.

Cancer Cell Int

November 2022

Institute of Oncology, Shanghai Municipal Hospital of TCM, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Shanghai, 200071, People's Republic of China.

Metastasis is the primary cause of death in lung cancer patients. However, until now, effective drugs and intervention strategies for treating lung cancer metastasis have been lacking. This hypothesis focuses on circulating tumour cells (CTCs) to develop a new antimetastatic therapeutic strategy for lung cancer.

Unlocking the biomechanical effects of cervical spine positioning rotation manipulation in the treatment of patients with neck pain. In this paper, the safety of the cervical positioning rotation manipulation is analyzed by experimentally obtaining head kinematic data, importing them into a finite element model that has been developed and validated, and calculating and analyzing the angular displacements, disc pressures, and articular surface contact forces in the normal and pathological models. The results show that the cervical spine positioning rotation technique is more effective in adjusting the position and applying force to the cervical spine C5-C6 "tendon out of the groove and bone misalignment" pathological model.

Department of Dermatology, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 200437, China. Electronic address:

Background: Diabetic ulcers, which are characterized by chronic nonhealing wounds with a long-lasting inflammatory state, are a typical symptom in individuals with diabetes, and there is still no effective treatment for these lesions. Angelica dahurica plays a critical role in inflammatory diseases. Among numerous monomeric compounds, phellopterin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis, a common degenerative joint disease, has been widely treated by electroacupuncture in recent years. However, there are too many parameters of the treatment currently, resulting in various applications in clinical practice. This study aims to summarize the optimal stimulation parameters of electroacupuncture for knee osteoarthritis in clinical studies by applying data mining techniques.

In liver fibrosis, transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) can stimulate autophagy and activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Autophagy, playing a crucial role in HSCs activation, is related to liver fibrosis. Increasing evidence have suggested that antifibrosis effects of salvianolic acid B (Sal B) and their mechanisms of action, however, remain unclear.

Our study aims to detect the changes of adiponectin (APN), endothelin 1 (ET)-1, nitric oxide (NO), cystatin C (cysC) in diabetic limb arterial occlusion (DLAO) patients and unravel their associations with endothelial function. Total 240 type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients were divided into a DM group (n = 80, ankle brachial index (ABI) ≥ 0.9) and a DLAO group (n = 160, ABI < 0.

Objective: circ_SFMBT2 was reported to facilitate malignant progression in various cancers, but its function in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has not been fully uncovered. This study aimed to investigate the effects of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation of circ_SFMBT2 (circ_0017628) on non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its underlying mechanisms.

Methods: Paired tumor and noncancerous tissues from NSCLC patients were surgically collected from January 2020 to March 2021 in our hospital.

Emerging evidence suggests that fasting could play a key role in cancer treatment by fostering conditions that limit cancer cells' adaptability, survival, and growth. Fasting could increase the effectiveness of cancer treatments and limit adverse events. Yet, we lack an integrated mechanistic model for how these two complicated systems interact, limiting our ability to understand, prevent, and treat cancer using fasting.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how taurine affects prostate cancer cell growth and death, focusing on its impact on specific signaling pathways.
  • Researchers used the DU145 prostate cancer cell line and administered various concentrations of taurine to determine its effects on cell proliferation and apoptosis over 72 hours.
  • Results indicated that taurine significantly reduced cell proliferation and increased apoptosis rates compared to control groups, with higher concentrations leading to more pronounced effects on both cell behavior and protein expression in related pathways.

Background: Expression of glycoprotein A dominant repeat (GARP) has been reported to occur only in activated human naturally occurring regulatory T cells (Tregs) and their clones, and not in activated effector T cells, indicating that GARP is a marker for bona fide Tregs. A different phenotype of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may have a different immunologic mechanism.

Objective: To investigate whether the distribution of Tregs defined by GARP is related to the multi-organ loss of tissue phenotype in COPD.
