Background: The paratenon has been shown to promote Achilles tendon healing, but the evidence supporting the role of paratenon protection technique in Achilles tendon repair is sparse. We retrospectively assessed the results of a paratenon-sparing repair technique vs an open giftbox repair of Achilles tendon ruptures.
Methods: Patients with Achilles tendon rupture who underwent surgical treatment at our hospital between January 2015 and August 2021 were retrospectively reviewed.

Background: Patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) are characterized by chronic anemia and most of them require transfusion making them prone to developing transfusion dependence (TD) and inducing red blood cell (RBC) alloimmunization. Little information is available regarding the status of transfusions of MDS patients in China.
Materials And Methods: Clinical history and transfusion information of MDS transfusion patients from 2004 to 2023 were collected from electronic medical and laboratory records.

An in-situ polymer-solution-processing approach enables the efficient production of uniform graphene-reinforced polylactic acid (G-PLA) nanocomposites with notable physical and biomedical properties. The approach effectively enhances the interfacial bonding between graphene and PLA by creating graphene dangling bonds and defects during exfoliation. As a result, an 182 % increase in Young's modulus and an 85 % increase in tensile strength can be achieved in G-PLA.

Chronic wounds, including those caused by venous and arterial insufficiency, diabetic complications, and pressure-induced ulcers, pose significant treatment challenges. Negative pressure wound therapy has been increasingly used for managing these wounds. This treatment aims to promote wound healing, prepare the wound bed for further surgical intervention, minimize the risk of infection, and potentially shorten the time to wound healing.

In computer-aided medical diagnosis, obtaining labeled medical image data is expensive, while there is a high demand for model interpretability. However, most deep learning models currently require a large amount of data and lack interpretability. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel data augmentation method for medical image segmentation.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the primary cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and the therapeutic strategies for DN are limited. Notoginsenoside Fc (Fc), a novel saponin isolated from Panax Notoginseng (PNG), has been reported to alleviate vascular injury in diabetic rats. However, the protective effects of Fc on DN remain unclear.

As a serious public health issue, malaria threatens the health of millions of people. Artemisinin, a gift from traditional Chinese medicine, has been used in the treatment of malaria and has shown good therapeutic efficiency. However, due to its low solubility, poor bioavailability, and short half-life time, some smart delivery strategies are still required.

Physical hydrogels of natural polysaccharides are considered as ideal candidates for wound dressing due to their natural biological activity and no harmful cross-linking agents. However, it remains a challenge to fabricate such hydrogel dressings in a facile and low-cost way. Herein, we reported an easy and cost-effective method to construct CO-mediated alkali-neutralization Curdlan (CR) hydrogels without using an external cross-linking agent.

This study aimed to compare the postoperative analgesic efficacy and motor recovery of a novel lumbar plexus block (LPB) with that of a femoral nerve block (FNB) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Forty patients who underwent TKA were randomised equally into an lumbar plexus and sciatic nerve (LS) group (receiving novel LPB) and an femoral and sciatic nerves (FS) group (receiving FNB). The assessed variables were the onset time of pain, time to the first analgesic request, pain scores, motor block at 6, 12, and 24 h after TKA, and the number of patients receiving successful blockade for each branch of the lumbar plexus.

Cancer imposes a substantial burden and its incidence is persistently increasing in recent years. Cancer treatment has been difficult due to its inherently complex nature. The tumor microenvironment (TME) includes a complex interplay of cellular and noncellular constituents surrounding neoplastic cells, intricately contributing to the tumor initiation and progression.

Astrocytes are highly heterogeneous and involved in different aspects of fundamental functions in the central nervous system (CNS). However, whether and how this heterogeneous population of cells reacts to the pathophysiological challenge is not well understood. To investigate the response status of astrocytes in the medial vestibular nucleus (MVN) after vestibular loss, we examined the subtypes of astrocytes in MVN using single-cell sequencing technology in a unilateral labyrinthectomy mouse model.
