Department of Gastroenterology, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, School of Clinical Medicine of Nanjing Medical University, Shanghai 200072, PR China; Department of Gastroenterology, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200072, PR China. Electronic address:

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) progression is relevant to oxidative stress, while NADPH oxidase can produce ROS. This study explored how the upstream stimulatory factor 1 (USF1) regulates cytochrome b-245 alpha chain (CYBA) expression through the NADPH-ROS pathway and its impact on oxidative stress and lipid accumulation in NAFLD. Bioinformatics analysis identified CYBA as a gene with altered expression in NAFLD.

Patients diagnosed with papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) exhibit a high rate of clinical metastasis; however, the underlying molecular mechanism is unclear. In this study, KH-type splicing regulatory protein (KHSRP) participated in pRCC progression and was associated with metastasis. It was positively correlated with the hallmark of epithelial-mesenchymal transition.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the genetic factors contributing to cerebral artery dissection (CeAD), a serious but rare disease, focusing on the Chinese population through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and polygenic risk scores (PRS).
  • A total of 210 CeAD patients and 280 controls were analyzed, identifying 13 significant SNPs related to CeAD, with implications for understanding its pathophysiology and identifying potential new genetic associations.
  • The research finds that the identified genes are involved in critical biological processes and outlines a predictive model for CeAD using genetic data, age, and sex, which could help in risk assessment and management.

Background: Cryoablation is an interdisciplinary, widely used treatment approach for several types of solid tumors, making it difficult to obtain a comprehensive picture of its current status and popular research topics. This study aimed to use a bibliometric approach to understand important research themes and trends in cryoablation and oncology.

Methods: Literature studies on cryoablation and oncology from 2001 to 2020 were extracted from the Web of Science.

This study aimed to determine the risk factors for postoperative venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients treated surgically for fractures using a meta-analytic approach. Electronic searches were performed in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library from inception until February 2022. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were applied to calculate the pooled effect estimate using the random-effects model.

Transferrin-Modified Mangiferin-Loaded SLNs: Preparation, Characterization, and Application in A549 Lung Cancer Cell.

Drug Des Devel Ther

June 2022

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Shidong Hospital, Shanghai, 200438, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: Mangiferin is a plant antitumor compound with poor water solubility and low bioavailability. In this study, transferrin-modified mangiferin-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (Tf-modified MGF-SLNs) were prepared to overcome the above defects.

Methods: Tf-modified MGF-SLNs were prepared by the emulsification-solvent evaporation method.

Cadmium, lead, and mercury are nephrotoxic metals that are commonly found as hazardous pollutants in many areas of the USA. We examined the relationship between exposure to cadmium, lead, and mercury with the occurrence of urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. This study was conducted using data on women > 20 years of age, collected between 2005 and 2016, who reported experiencing urinary incontinence in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Scalp cooling is currently the most approved treatment to prevent alopecia due to chemotherapy for cancer. Few reports can be available, and the mechanisms involved in scalp cooling were unclear. The present work tries to reveal a preliminary inhibitory mechanism of scalp cooling on paclitaxel-induced alopecia.

Background: Sarcopenia as the loss of skeletal muscle mass is related with poor postoperative survival. This work purposed to evaluate the prognostic prediction of the total psoas index (TPI), albumin-globulin score (AGS), and the combination of TPI and AGS (CTA) in bladder cancer (BCa) patients after radical cystectomy.

Methods: BCa patients that received radical cystectomy between 2012 and 2020 were retrieved from our medical center.

In vitro and in vivo Study of a Novel Liposome-Mediated Dual Drug Delivery for Synergistic Lung Cancer Therapy via Oral Administration.

Onco Targets Ther

December 2020

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Shidong Hospital, Yangpu District, Shanghai 200438, People's Republic of China.

Background: To establish the co-delivery liposomes of gefitinib (GFT) and curcumin (CUR) via oral administration with the goals of improving the synergistic effect and reducing acquired drug resistance.

Methods: We prepared liposomes (LPs) which can embed the anticancer compound GFT and CUR and investigated whether they could enhance the antitumor effects of anticancer drugs against MDR. The LPs system was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), particle size, encapsulation efficiency, cellular uptake and cell viability.

In recent years Epithelial Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) has been proposed as a mechanism indispensable to acquisition of metastatic properties by tumor cells. In this study we tested the ability of Farrerol, a Chinese herb-derived compound to ablate the EMT in human lung squamous cell carcinoma cells. Human lung squamous cell carcinoma cells, Calu-1 were treated with various concentrations of Farrerol for 24 h to examine its effect on their viability by the MTT assay.

Background: Anti-CD11c antibodies target to the CD11c receptor that mediates antigen presentation to T cells by dendritic cells (DCs). To exploit these properties for immunization purposes, we obtained DC-targeting DNA vaccines by fusing tumor-associated antigen HER2/neu ectodomain to single chain antibody fragment (scFv) from N418 (scFv(N418)), a monoclonal antibody binding the mouse DC-restricted surface molecule CD11c, and explored its antitumoral efficacy and underlying mechanisms in mouse breast cancer models.

Methods: Induction of humoral and cellular immune responses and antitumoral activity of the DNA vaccines were tested in transplantable HER2/neu-expressing murine tumor models and in transgenic BALB-neuT mice developing spontaneous Neu-driven mammary carcinomas.
