Front Physiol

April 2021

Key Laboratory of Targeted Intervention of Cardiovascular Disease, Collaborative Innovation Center of Translational Medicine for Cardiovascular Disease, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China.

Purpose: Salusin-β, a multifunctional vasoactive peptide, has a potentially important function in the pathological development of hypertension. However, the exact functional role of salusin-β and the underlying mechanism in this process are still not fully understood. The current study aimed to investigate the effects of silencing salusin-β on vascular function and vascular remodeling, as well as its signaling pathways in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY).

Background: Both Caroli disease (CD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) are autosomal recessive disorders, which are more commonly found in infants and children, for whom surviving to adulthood is rare. Early diagnosis and intervention can improve the survival rate to some extent. This study adopted the case of a 26-year-old pregnant woman to explore the clinical and imaging manifestations and progress of CD concomitant with ARPKD to enable a better understanding of the disease.

CircMEG3 inhibits telomerase activity by reducing Cbf5 in human liver cancer stem cells.

Mol Ther Nucleic Acids

March 2021

Shanghai Putuo District People's Hospital, School of Life Science and Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China.

Circular RNA (CircRNA) is a newly identified special class of non-coding RNA (ncRNA) that plays an important regulatory role in the progression of certain diseases. Herein, our results indicate that CircMEG3 is downregulated expression and negatively correlated with the expression of telomerase-related gene Cbf5 in human liver cancer. Moreover, CircMEG3 inhibits the growth of human liver cancer stem cells and CircMEG3 inhibits the expression of m6A methyltransferase METTL3 dependent on HULC.

Shanghai Putuo District People's Hospital, School of Life Science and Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai 200060, China.

Cancer immunotherapy targeting co-inhibitory pathways by checkpoint blockade shows remarkable efficacy in a variety of cancer types. However, only a minority of patients respond to treatment due to the stochastic heterogeneity of tumor microenvironment (TME). Recent advances in single-cell RNA-seq technologies enabled comprehensive characterization of the immune system heterogeneity in tumors but posed computational challenges on integrating and utilizing the massive published datasets to inform immunotherapy.

Intelligent phototherapy by theranostic nanosystems that can be activated by a tumor microenvironment has high sensitivity and specificity. However, hypoxia and low drug accumulation in tumors greatly limit its clinical application. Herein, we have designed a cage-like carbon-manganese nanozyme, which effectively relieves tumor hypoxia and delivers numerous photosensitizers (PSs) to the tumor site, for real-time imaging and enhanced phototherapy of esophageal cancer.

Drug-induced chronic cough and the possible mechanism of action.

Ann Palliat Med

September 2020

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Tongji Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Chronic cough is defined as a cough lasting for ≥8 weeks with a normal chest radiograph. The common causes of chronic cough are cough variant asthma (CVA), upper airway cough syndrome/postnasal drip syndrome (UACS/PNDs), eosinophilic bronchitis (EB), gastroesophageal reflux-related chronic cough (GERC) and atopic cough (AC). Drug-induced chronic cough, a rare cause of chronic cough, refers to a chronic cough caused by certain drugs.

miR-155 Accelerates the Growth of Human Liver Cancer Cells by Activating CDK2 via Targeting H3F3A.

Mol Ther Oncolytics

June 2020

Shanghai Putuo District People's Hospital, School of Life Science and Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China.

miR-155 is associated with the promotion of tumorigenesis. Herein, we indicate that abnormal miR-155 was negatively correlated with the expression of P21WAF1/Cip1. Our results suggest that miR-155 alters the transcriptome and inhibits the expression of H3F3A in liver cancer cells.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how perioperative chemotherapy affects survival rates in patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) undergoing nephroureterectomy (NU).
  • Out of 7,278 UTUC patients analyzed, only 17.3% received chemotherapy, with higher rates in patients with advanced stages of the disease (pT3 and pT4).
  • Results showed that chemotherapy improved overall survival in more advanced stages (pT3, pT4) and for those with lymph node involvement (pN+), but negatively impacted overall survival for pT2 and cancer-specific survival for pT1 patients.

Hollow mesoporous particles for drug delivery and cancer therapy have attracted significant attention over recent decades. Here, we develop a simple and highly efficient strategy for preparing fluorescent hollow mesoporous carbon spheres (HMCSs). Compared with typical carbon materials such as fullerene C60, carbon nanotubes, reduced graphene oxide, and carbon nanohorns; HMCSs showed fewer effects on cell cycle distribution and lower toxicity to cells.

Several microRNAs are associated with carcinogenesis and tumour progression. Herein, our observations suggest both miR24-2 and Pim1 are up-regulated in human liver cancers, and miR24-2 accelerates growth of liver cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, miR24-2 increases the expression of N6-adenosine-methyltransferase METTL3 and thereafter promotes the expression of miR6079 via RNA methylation modification.
