Background: Both endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and macrophage diversity contribute to inflammatory processes in lung injury. However, the interaction between ER stress and macrophage M1/M2 imbalance in lung inflammation remains unclear. The present study, thus, aimed to evaluate the role of ER stress-mediated macrophage phenotype changes in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI).

Free fatty acids (FFAs), also named nonesterified fatty acids, largely originate from the lipolysis of triacylglycerol stored in adipose tissue. Despite extensive research on sex- and age-dependent effects on lipolysis and lipid mobilization of adipose tissue, the primary differences in the metabolic characteristics of circulating FFAs among normal-weight healthy men and women during aging are still unclear. Here, we measured the concentrations of 45 FFAs in fasting sera of two Chinese community-based studies consisting of 201 metabolically healthy normal-weight adults to ascertain the associations of sex and age with FFA compositions and their upstream and downstream relations.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common pathological type of lung cancer, most NSCLC patients are at advanced stage at the time of diagnosis. For patients without sensitive driven-oncogene mutations, chemotherapy is still the main treatment at present, the overall prognosis is poor. Improving outcomes and obtaining long-term survival are the most urgent needs of patients with advanced NSCLC.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains the first leading cause of death in malignancies worldwide. Despite the early screening of NSCLC by low-dose spiral computed tomography (CT) in high-risk individuals caused a 20% reduction in the mortality, there still exists imperative needs for the identification of novel biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.

Methods: mRNA microarray datasets GSE19188, GSE33532, and GSE44077 were searched, and the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained using GEO2R.

Objectives: Whether epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) plus local consolidative therapy (LCT) has survival benefit over EGFR-TKIs alone in lung adenocarcinoma patients with EGFR mutation and bone oligometastases remains controversial.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective study to assess the effects of LCT in lung adenocarcinoma patients with bone oligometastases and EGFR mutation. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS); the secondary endpoints was progression-free survival (PFS).

The curative effect and adverse reactions of pamidronate disodium in elderly patients with advanced metastatic bone cancer were evaluated. A total of 160 elderly patients with advanced metastatic bone cancer admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University from February 2012 to January 2015, were divided into the chemotherapy group (n=60) that received routine therapy and the pamidronate disodium group (n=100) that received pamidronate disodium therapy based on the chemotherapy. Pain relief, analgesic time, analgesic duration and side effects were compared between the two groups after treatment.

Critical role of molecular test in early diagnosis of gastric tuberculosis: a rare case report and review of literature.

BMC Infect Dis

July 2019

Clinic and Research Center of Tuberculosis, Shanghai Key Lab of Tuberculosis, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200433, China.

Backgroud: Early diagnosis of gastric tuberculosis is often challenging because the disease is very rare and its clinical manifestation is nonspecific and misleading. To raise the awareness and emphasize early diagnosis of gastric tuberculosis, we present a case of gastric tuberculosis secondary to pleural and pulmonary tuberculosis.

Case Presentation: A 26-year-old woman complained gastric pain for 1 month but showed no other symptoms, who had no previous exposure to tuberculosis.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within precursor microRNAs (miRNAs) can affect the expression of the miRNAs and may be involved in the pathogenesis of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB). We investigated the potential associations among four precursor miRNA SNPs (miR-149 A>G, C>T; miR-196a2 C>T; miR-499 C>T) and both PTB and EPTB. The study included 380 PTB patients, 242 EPTB patients, and 606 healthy control (HC) subjects from a Chinese Han population.

Background: Host genetic factors affect the immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection as well as the progression of the disease. Epiregulin (EREG) belongs to the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family, which binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) to regulate the immune response of the host during infections. Our study aimed to compare EREG levels in tuberculosis (TB) patients and healthy controls and assess whether polymorphisms in EREG increase the risk of TB.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating event, leading to the progression of chronic neuropathic pain syndrome. Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM1) is an innate immune receptor expressed on neutrophils and monocytes/macrophages. TREM1 enhances inflammatory response in various models of diseases, but its significance in SCI remains unclear.

The current study tested the expression and potential functions of circular RNA HIPK3 (circHIPK3) in human lung cancer. Our results show that circHIPK3 expression is upregulated in established (A549 line) and primary human lung cancer cells, when compared to its low level in the lung epithelial cells. siRNA-mediated silencing of circHIPK3 potently inhibited survival and proliferation of lung cancer cells, but inducing significant apoptosis activation.
