With distinct advantages in clinical application, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an effective surgical option for treating end-stage osteoarthritis in the knee. After TKA, incisional problems are one of the major factors influencing the speed in which patients recover. Although it is widely acknowledged that preoperative hypoalbuminemia and the incidence of incisional complications are significantly associated, it is still unclear if postoperative hypoalbuminemia raises the risk of incisional complications following TKA.

A booster vaccination is called for constraining the evolving epidemic of SARS-CoV-2. However, the necessity of a new COVID-19 vaccine is currently unclear. To compare the effect of an Omicron-matched S DNA vaccine and an ancestral S DNA vaccine in boosting cross-reactive immunities, we firstly immunized mice with two-dose of a DNA vaccine encoding the spike protein of the ancestral Wuhan strain.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-specific humoral responses and T-cell responses in patients who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to understand the natural protective immune responses and to facilitate the development of vaccines.

Methods: We conducted a combined assessment of the changes in neutralising antibody levels and SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cell responses over time in 27 patients up to 7 months after infection.

Results: The neutralising antibody remained detectable in 96.

Objective: SARS-CoV-2 has caused a worldwide pandemic of COVID-19. The existence of prolonged SARS-CoV-2 positivity (PP) has further increased the burden on the health system. Since T cells are vital for viral control, we aimed to evaluate the characteristics of T-cell responses associated with PP.

Objectives: We aimed to gain an understanding of the paradox of the immunity in COVID-19 patients with T cells showing both functional defects and hyperactivation and enhanced proliferation.

Methods: A total of 280 hospitalised patients with COVID-19 were evaluated for cytokine profiles and clinical features including viral shedding. A mouse model of acute infection by lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) was applied to dissect the relationship between immunological, virological and pathological features.

We isolated spontaneous levofloxacin-resistant strains of to study the fitness cost and compensatory evolution of fluoroquinolone resistance in mycobacteria. Five of six mutant strains with substantial growth defects showed restored fitness after being serially passaged for 18 growth cycles, along with increased cellular ATP level. Whole-genome sequencing identified putative compensatory mutations in the gene that restored the fitness of the resistant strains, presumably by altering the bacterial energy metabolism.

The reconstitution of the T-cell repertoire and quantity is a major challenge in the clinical management of HIV infection/AIDS, cancer, and aging-associated diseases. We previously showed that autologous bone marrow transfusion (BMT) via the hepatic portal vein could effectively restore CD4 T-cell count in AIDS patients also suffering from decompensated liver cirrhosis. In the current study, we characterized T-cell reconstitution in a mouse model of liver fibrosis induced by CCl and found that T-cell reconstitution after BMT via hepatic portal vein was also greatly enhanced.

Background: Lingual epithelia in the tongue tip are among the most rapidly regenerating tissues, but the mechanism of cell genesis in this tissue is still unknown. Previous study has suggested the existence of multiple stem cell pools in lingual epithelia and papillae. Like K14+ and Sox2+ cells, NTPDase2+ cells have characteristics of stem cells.
