Renal fibrosis is a common pathological process of progressive chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, effective therapy is constrained currently. Autophagy is an important mechanism in kidney injury and repairment but its exact role in renal fibrosis was discrepant according to previous studies.

This study aims to explore the relationship between serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor alpha (sIL-2Rα) levels and histologic features in immunoglobin A nephropathy (IgAN), and evaluate its predicting values on disease progression and remission status. IgAN patients were included retrospectively. Lee classification, Oxford classification and histological scoring were evaluated.

The link between ferroptosis, a form of cell death mediated by iron and acute kidney injury (AKI) is recently gaining widespread attention. However, the mechanism of the crosstalk between cells in the pathogenesis and progression of acute kidney injury remains unexplored. In our research, we performed a non-negative matrix decomposition (NMF) algorithm on acute kidney injury single-cell RNA sequencing data based specifically focusing in ferroptosis-associated genes.

Purpose: Uremic cardiomyopathy (UCM) is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) related mortality. Uremic toxins including indoxyl sulfate (IS) play important role during the progression of UCM. This study was to explore the underlying mechanism of IS related myocardial injury.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health burden, with ineffective therapies leading to increasing morbidity and mortality. Renal interstitial fibrosis is a common pathway in advanced CKD, resulting in kidney function and structure deterioration. In this study, we investigate the role of FTO-mediated N6-methyladenosine (m6A) and its downstream targets in the pathogenesis of renal fibrosis.

Adherens junctions between tubular epithelial cells are disrupted in renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Syndecan-1 (SDC-1) is involved in maintaining cell morphology. We aimed to study the role of SDC-1 shedding induced by renal I/R in the destruction of intracellular adherens junctions.

Background: Little is known about the role of interleukin (IL) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), especially soluble IL-2 receptor (sIL-2R) and IL-8. We aim to evaluate, in MI patients, the predictive value of serum sIL-2R and IL-8 for future major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), and compare them with current biomarkers reflecting myocardial inflammation and injury.
Methods: This was a prospective, single-center cohort study.

Purpose: Primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) is the most frequent cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults. Rituximab monotherapy has emerged as a front-line treatment for patients with PMN, but potential markers for predicting the response to rituximab are unknown.
Methods: In this single-arm retrospective pilot study, 48 patients with PMN without previous immunosuppressive therapy were enrolled.

Background: Accurate diagnosis and assessment of hematuria is crucial for the early detection of chronic kidney disease(CKD). As instability of urinary RBC count (URBC) often results with clinical uncertainty, therefore new urinary indexes are demanded to improve the accuracy of diagnosis of hematuria. In this study, we aimed to investigate the benefit of applying new complex indicators based on random urine red blood cell counts confirmed in hematuric kidney diseases.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most predominate pathological subtype of renal cell carcinoma, causing a recurrence or metastasis rate as high as 20% to 40% after operation, for which effective prognostic signature is urgently needed.
Methods: The mRNA and miRNA profiles of ccRCC specimens were collected from the Cancer Genome Atlas. MiRNA-pair risk score (miPRS) for each miRNA pair was generated as a signature and validated by univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis.

Purpose: Apoptosis plays a critical role in cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and is related to mitochondrial dysfunction. Magnesium lithospermate B (Mlb), one of the most important components of Bunge, is mainly used to treat cardiovascular diseases because of its anti-apoptotic effects. The mechanism underlying the protective effect of Mlb against cisplatin-induced AKI remains unclear.

Aristolochic acid nephropathy (AAN) is a type of drug-induced nephropathy and is correlated with a potentially progression of kidney fibrosis. However, whether miR-382 is implicated in macrophage activation in AA-induced kidney fibrosis remains elusive. Here, cell-sorting experiments defined a significant miR-382 enrichment in renal macrophage after AAN 14 days.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a life-threatening condition that is one of most common side effects of cisplatin therapy. Fatty acid oxidation (FAO) is the main source of energy production in kidney proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) but it is inhibited in AKI. Recent work demonstrated that activation of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) protects against AKI, but the underlying mechanism remains elusive.

Noninvasive biomarkers of disease activity are needed to predict disease remission status in patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Soluble CD163 (sCD163), shed by monocytes and macrophages, is a potential biomarker in diseases associated with excessive macrophage activation. We investigated the association of urinary sCD163 (u-sCD163) with histopathological activity and clinical manifestations in 349 patients with biopsy-diagnosed IgAN.

There is limited evidence on the relationship between social isolation and renal outcomes. To address this gap, this study estimated the prospective relationship of social isolation with rapid kidney function decline and the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in middle-aged and elderly Chinese with normal kidney function. We analyzed data from 3,031 participants aged ≥ 45 years with baseline estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFR) ≥ 60 ml/min/1.

Background: Previous studies show that abnormal lipoprotein metabolism can increase the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study prospectively investigated the association of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio and renal dysfunction in the Chinese population.
Methods: This longitudinal cohort research examined 7,316 participants (age range: 22-93) from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including 6,560 individuals with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥ 60 mL/min/1.

Renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) can induce oxidative stress and injury via the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Renal proximal tubular cells are susceptible to oxidative stress, and the dysregulation of renal proximal tubular cellular homeostasis can damage cells via apoptotic pathways. A recent study showed that the generation of ROS can increase perilipin 2 (Plin2) expression in HepG2 cells.

However, there is no report outlining the character of tongue coating microbiota variations in children with Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis (HSPN).
Method: A total of 20 children with HSPN and 14 healthy controls were recruited for this research.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication after cardiac surgery and the prognosis of AKI worsens with the increase in AKI severity. Syndecan-1(SDC-1) is a biomarker of endothelial glycocalyx degradation. Fluid overload (FO) is associated with poor outcomes in AKI patients and may be related to the damage of endothelial function.

Syndecan-1 (SDC-1), a type of heparan sulfate proteoglycan on the surface of epithelial cells, is involved in maintaining cell morphology. Loss of cell polarity constitutes the early stage of ischemic acute kidney injury (AKI). This study investigated the role of SDC-1 shedding in I/R-induced AKI and the underlying mechanisms.
