Bone defects caused by osteoporosis, infection, diabetes, post-tumor resection, and nonunion often cause severe pain and markedly increase morbidity and mortality, which remains a significant challenge for orthopedic surgeons. The precise local treatments to these pathological complications is essential to avoid poor or failed bone repair. Hydrogel formulations serve as injectable innovative platforms that overcome microenvironmental obstacles and as delivery systems for controlled release of various bioactive substances to bone defects in a targeted manner.

A one-step hydrothermal method was applied to prepare carbon dots (CDs) with superior fluorescence properties using chitosan as a carbon source. The as-prepared carbon dots were then grafted onto a sodium alginate-gelatin hydrogel film to form a fluorescent hydrogel film (FHGF), emitting at 450 nm under excitation of 350 nm light. In comparison to the CDs, the fluorescence intensity of this film was maintained over 90.

Studies have shown that the prognosis of dental implant treatment in patients with diabetes is not as good as that in the non-diabetes population. The nerve plays a crucial role in bone metabolism, but the role and the mechanism of peripheral nerves in regulating peri-implant osteogenesis under Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) situation remains unclear. In this study, it was shown that high glucose-stimulated Schwann cells (SCs) inhibited peri-implant osteogenesis via their exosomes.

Although the deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA) flap is a mainstay in mandibular reconstruction, its multi-segmental utilization is infrequently reported, primarily due to concerns regarding the variable cutaneous component and potentially inadequate vascular supply to multi-block segments. This retrospective study analyzed the outcomes of 86 patients undergoing mandibular reconstruction with multi-segmental DCIA flaps, compared to 167 patients who received conventional single-segmental flaps. The survival rate for multi-segmental flaps was comparable to that of single-segmental flaps (100% vs.

Oral ulcers are prone to recurrence and often complicated by bacterial infections. Currently, antibiotics, glucocorticoids, and anesthetics are commonly employed in clinical practice to alleviate symptoms. However, these medications exhibit limited retention in the moist and dynamic environment of the oral cavity, and their long-term use may lead to various side effects or drug resistance.

Background/purpose: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by basement membrane disruption, which plays a crucial role in its pathogenesis. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a group of proteolytic enzymes, contribute to the degradation of the basement membrane. The specific MMPs secreted by keratinocytes in OLP lesions and relevant regulatory mechanisms are not fully understood.

The advent of autonomous nanomotors presents exciting opportunities for nanodrug delivery. However, significant potential remains for enhancing the asymmetry of nanomotors and advancing the development of second near-infrared (NIR-II) light-propelled nanomotors capable of operating within deep tissues. Herein, we developed a dual-ligand assisted anisotropic assembly strategy that enables precise regulation of the interfacial energy between selenium (Se) nanoparticle and periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO).

Objective: This study aims to quantitatively evaluate the efficacy and safety of various treatment regimens for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) across oral, intravenous, and intranasal routes to inform clinical guidelines.
Methods: A systematic review identified randomized controlled trials on TRD, with efficacy measured by changes in the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). We developed pharmacodynamic and covariate models for different administration routes, using Monte Carlo simulations to estimate efficacy distribution.

Oral mucosal injuries are commonly caused by factors such as trauma, infection, or inflammation, especially in diabetic patients where healing is difficult and significantly affects quality of life. In this study, a nanocarrier system based on DNA tetrahedrons (TDN) is developed, which serve as ideal vectors due to their excellent intracellular uptake and drug delivery capabilities. By efficiently delivering miR132 into cells, the proliferation and migration of human oral mucosal fibroblasts (HOMFs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) are regulated, along with the modulation of inflammation and antioxidant processes.

Hyperglycemia and bacterial colonization in diabetic wounds aberrantly activate Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) in macrophages, resulting in extensive inflammatory infiltration and impaired wound healing. Targeted suppression of the NLRP3 inflammasome shows promise in reducing macrophage inflammatory disruptions. However, challenges such as drug off-target effects and degradation via lysosomal capture remain during treatment.

The escalating hazards posed by bacterial infections underscore the imperative for pioneering advancements in next-generation antibacterial modalities and treatments. Present therapeutic methodologies are frequently impeded by the constraints of insufficient biofilm infiltration and the absence of precision in pathogen-specific targeting. In this current study, we have used chlorin e6 (Ce6), zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), polydopamine (PDA), and UBI peptide to formulate an innovative nanosystem meticulously engineered to confront bacterial infections and effectually dismantle biofilm architectures through the concerted mechanism of photodynamic therapy (PDT)/photothermal therapy (PTT) therapies, including in-depth research, especially for oral bacteria and oral biofilm.

Decentralized testing using multiplex lateral flow assays (mLFAs) to simultaneously detect multiple analytes can significantly enhance detection efficiency, reduce cost and time, and improve analytic accuracy. However, the challenges, including the monochromatic color of probe particles, interference between different test lines, and reduced specificity and sensitivity, severely hinder mLFAs from wide use. In this study, we prepared polydopamine (PDA)-coated dyed cellulose nanoparticles (dCNPs@P) with tunable colors as the probe for mLFAs.

This study aimed to clarify the role and mechanism of tetrahedral framework nucleic acids (tFNAs) in regulating M2 macrophages to reduce intestinal injury. An intestinal injury model was established by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in mice to explore the alleviating effects of tFNAs on intestinal injury. Inflammatory factors were detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Objective: To explore the mechanism of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in inhibiting subchondral bone angiogenesis and delaying the progression of osteoarthritis through the PHD2/HIF-1α signaling pathway.
Methods: Mice were randomly divided into three groups (control group, osteoarthritis group, and hyperbaric oxygen treatment group). The effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on osteoarthritis was evaluated using Micro-CT, Safranin O-Fast Green staining, and detection of osteoarthritis inflammation markers (MMP-13, ADAMTS-5, Col2a1, and Aggrecan).
