Radiotherapy is a primary modality in cancer treatment but is accompanied by severe side effects to healthy tissues and radiation resistance to some extent. To overcome these limitations, we developed a HO-responsive photosensitizer, CyBT, which could be activated by the upregulated HO induced by radiotherapy, enabling near-infrared fluorescence imaging-guided combination photodynamic and radiotherapy. The synthesis of CyBT began with the covalent linkage of hemicyanine and a free radical TEMPO through the click reaction, which demonstrated superior photodynamic properties.

Background: This study aims to investigate the relevance of platelet aggregation markers, specifically arachidonic acid (AA) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP), in relation to the prognosis of sepsis patients.
Methods: A cohort of 40 sepsis patients was included and stratified, based on their 28-day post-treatment prognosis, into two groups: a survival group (n = 31) and a severe sepsis group (n = 9. Then, their various clinical parameters, including patient demographics, platelet counts (PLT), inflammatory markers, and platelet aggregation rates (PAR) induced by AA and ADP between the two groups, were compared.

Objective: To explore the effect of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf 2) on microglial inflammatory response and proliferation after spinal cord injury (SCI) through the glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) / Seven in absentia homolog 1 (Siah 1) signaling pathway.
Methods: Human microglia HMC3 was induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to establish a SCI cell model. Microglia morphology after LPS stimulation was observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM), and cellular Nrf2, GAPDH/Siah1 pathway expression and cell viability were determined.

Objective: Gain or amplification 1q21 (1q21+) is one of the most common recurrent cytogenetic abnormalities in multiple myeloma (MM). Our aim was to explore the presentation and outcomes of patients with MM harboring 1q21 + .
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical features and survival outcomes in 474 consecutive patients with MM receiving immunomodulatory drugs or proteasome inhibitor-based regimens as first-line therapies.

Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disorder with a higher incidence in the elderly and has become a major public health concern all over the world. Therefore, it is urgent to investigate the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of osteoporosis. In this study, the osteoporosis animal model was established, and then rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSCs) were cultured.

Objectives: Recently, the Mayo Clinic introduced a new staging system (the Mayo Additive Staging System [MASS]) for patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) based on the number of high-risk (HR) abnormalities, including HR IgH translocations, 1q gain/amplification, chromosome 17 abnormalities, International Staging System (ISS)-III, and elevated lactate dehydrogenase. Patients with 0, 1, or ≥2 HR abnormalities were defined as stage I, II, or III, respectively. We aimed to validate the real-world prognostic value of the MASS.

1q gain (+1q) is the most common high-risk cytogenetic abnormality (HRCA) in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). However, its prognostic value remains unclear in the era of novel agents. Here, we retrospectively analyzed the impact of +1q on the outcomes of 934 patients newly diagnosed with MM.

The Second Revision of the International Staging System (R2-ISS) was recently introduced to improve risk stratification over that provided by the extensively applied standard revised International Staging System (R-ISS). In addition to the variables included in the R-ISS, the R2-ISS incorporates chromosome 1q gain/amplification and divides the patients into 4 groups with different survival outcomes, better stratifying patients within the R-ISS intermediate-risk. The new model was developed based on a great quantity of data from patients participating in uniform clinical trials and has not been validated in real-world clinical practice.

Hepatobiliary malignancies, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and biliary tract cancers, namely, gallbladder carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, are linked to a high rate of morbidity and mortality, depending on the phase of the disease. The intricate hepatobiliary anatomy and the need for accurate peroperative management, especially in patients with advanced liver disease, make these tumors difficult to treat. Surgical resection is a notable therapy for hepatobiliary cancers.

Nucleus pulposus (NP) apoptosis and subsequent excessive degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM) are key pathological characteristics of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). The present study aims to examine the signaling processes underlying the effects of taurine on IDD, with specific focus on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress‑mediated apoptosis and ECM degradation, in NP cells. To clarify the role of taurine in IDD, NP cells were treated with various concentrations of taurine and IL‑1β or thapsigargin (TG).

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm and patients with IMT tend to have a favorable outcome after complete surgical resection. However, some tumors of IMT cases have recurred and grown rapidly after successful surgery. Epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic sarcoma (EIMS) is a highly aggressive intra-abdominal IMT variant with epithelioid-to-round cell morphology.

Background: The Chinese government has promoted the 'tiered medical services' policy in which diseases are classified by severity, mode of onset and difficulty of treatment since 2015 to optimize medical resources. We evaluated the diagnosis and treatment of acute exacerbation (AE) of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) under the tiered system.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study.

Our previous study observed that circular RNA protein tyrosine kinase 2 (circ-PTK2) was upregulated and correlated with worse clinical features and unfavorable prognosis in multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Thus, this study aimed to further characterize the regulatory function of circ-PTK2 on cell malignant activities and its target microRNA-638 (miR-638) as well as downstream MEK/ERK, WNT/β-catenin signaling pathways in MM. The effect of circ-PTK2 on MM cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion and its potential target miRNAs was assessed by transfecting circ-PTK2 overexpression plasmids into U226 cells and circ-PTK2 knock-down plasmids into LP-1 cells.

Background: This study aimed to explore the heterogeneity of circRNA expression pattern via microarray, and further evaluate the potential of 10 specific circRNAs as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in multiple myeloma (MM).
Methods: In exploration stage (stage I), circRNA expression profiles were detected by the microarray in bone marrow plasma cells from 4 MM patients and 4 healthy controls (HCs), and bioinformatic analyses were performed. In validation stage (stage II), top 10 upregulated and top 10 downregulated circRNAs identified in stage I were detected in 60 MM patients and 30 HCs for further validation; the diagnostic and prognostic values of these circRNAs in MM patients were analyzed.
