Dynamic and sustainable supramolecular biolubrication coatings through nanoarchitectonics with dynamic BN bonding.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2024

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Orthopaedic Implants, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, 200041 Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Biological lubricating materials play a crucial role in normal human activities due to their extremely low coefficients of friction (COFs). However, synthetic friction materials typically exhibit higher friction coefficients and wear rates compared to natural lubricating materials. To address this issue, we propose a novel lubrication strategy: reducing the friction coefficient of synthetic lubricating materials through supramolecular dynamic exchange.

Background: Deep learning has developed rapidly, and deep learning reconstruction (DLR) methods in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are gaining attention for their potential to improve efficacy in clinical work. The preoperative MRI assessment of rectal cancer is crucial for patient management, but the imaging quality is currently limited by a number of factors. DLR could be applied to the preoperative MRI assessment of primary rectal cancer, but research about its specific reliability is limited.

Background: There are only a few isolated studies that have examined ultrasound-guided magnetic resonance arthrography (USMRA) of the glenohumeral joint and subacromial bursa with the use of gadolinium contrast agent. This study aimed to determine the clinical value of USMRA in the diagnosis of supraspinatus tendon tears and its subtypes.

Methods: Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) was performed in 207 patients with shoulder pain as confirmed by arthroscopic examination, 103 of whom underwent shoulder joint magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and 104 of whom underwent USMRA.

Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used to treat various nervous and cardiovascular system-related conditions. Its active components, senkyunolide A (SA) and 3-n-butylphthalide (NBP), have been proven effective in treating nervous system diseases. A new method was established based on microdialysis coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to estimate the concentrations of these components in brain extracellular fluid.

An antioxidant nanozyme for targeted cardiac fibrosis therapy post myocardial infarction.

J Nanobiotechnology

December 2024

Shanghai Key Laboratory for Nucleic Acid Chemistry and Nanomedicine, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, School of Medicine, Renji Hospital, Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, 200240, China.

The excessive release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) after myocardial infarction (MI) disrupts the natural healing process, leading to cardiac fibrosis and compromising patient prognosis. However, the clinical application of many antioxidant drugs for MI treatment is hindered by their poor antioxidant efficacy and inability to specifically target the heart. Here we developed a tannic acid-modified MnO nanozyme (named MnO@TA), which can achieve cardiac targeting to inhibit post-MI fibrosis and enhance cardiac function.

Association between sleep duration and lung function among U.S. adults.

BMC Public Health

December 2024

Department of Pediatrics, Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, 1665 Kongjiang Road, Shanghai, 200092, China.

Background: Sleep's impact on the human immune system and inflammatory responses makes it a potential risk factor for lung function impairment. However, the relationship between sleep duration and lung function impairment in middle-aged and young adults has been rarely investigated.

Methods: A total of 9,284 aged 20-64 years were categorized into four groups according to sleep duration (≤ 6 h, 7 h, 8 h, and ≥ 9 h), with 7 h as the reference, by using the U.

To compare the efficacy and safety of gecacitinib (also known as jaktinib) with hydroxyurea (HU) in treating myelofibrosis (MF) patients. In this multicenter, randomized phase 3 trial (ZGJAK016), intermediate- or high-risk primarily JAK inhibitor naïve MF patients were assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive either gecacitinib (100 mg twice a day, BID) or HU (500 mg BID). The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with ≥35% reduction in spleen volume (SVR35) from baseline at week 24.

Essential thrombocytosis transformed AML with TP53 mutations and its clinical implications.

Discov Oncol

December 2024

Department of Hematology, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China.

Essential thrombocytosis (ET) is a chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm. There is a rare possibility of its transformation from ET into acute myeloid leukemia (AML). While the TP53 mutation is a well-known risk factor for AML, limited research exists regarding ET patients who develop AML with TP53 mutations.

Resources Utilization Assessment and Cost-Minimization Analysis of the 6-Monthly Formulation of Triptorelin in the Treatment of Prostate Cancer in China.

Clinicoecon Outcomes Res

December 2024

Department of Urology, Renji Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, 200000, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluates the costs and resource use of different Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Agonist (GnRHa) formulations for treating Prostate Cancer in China, focusing on cost minimization strategies.
  • It compares "Current practice" of monthly and quarterly GnRHa treatments with a proposed switch to a 6-monthly triptorelin formulation, calculating potential savings and time efficiencies.
  • Findings suggest that switching to the 6-monthly treatment could save society over ¥13 million annually and reduce patient treatment time significantly, highlighting its cost-effectiveness compared to more frequent dosing options.

The harsh microenvironment of the urethral injury often carries high risks of early undesirable healing as well as late scar tissue formation. Indeed, the infection and inflammatory response in the early stages as well as blood vessel formation and tissue regeneration in the later stages fundamentally impact the outcomes of urethral wound healing. Innovatively, an integrated whole-process repair hydrogel (APF/C/L@dECM) is designed.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

December 2024

Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health, Key Laboratory of Public Health Safety, Ministry of Education, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200032, China.

N6-methyladenosine (mA) serves as one of the crucial RNA modifications for genes involved in cancer progression. Here, 7273 expression quantitative trait loci potentially regulating 30 m6A pathway genes are identified from the GTEx database, with 69 single nucleotide polymorphisms significantly associated with survival of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients (n = 1523) from the ongoing genome-wide association study after false positive probability tests. Notably, the rs151198415 locus, situated in a potential enhancer region, demonstrated a prolonged survival effect with the C>CCACG insertion, which is validated in an independent prospective cohort (n = 237), yielding a pooled hazard ratio of 0.
