Spread through air spaces (STAS) is a distinct invasion pattern in lung cancer, crucial for prognosis assessment and guiding surgical decisions. Histopathology is the gold standard for STAS detection, yet traditional methods are subjective, time-consuming, and prone to misdiagnosis, limiting large-scale applications. We present VERN, an image analysis model utilizing a feature-interactive Siamese graph encoder to predict STAS from lung cancer histopathological images.

High-adhesion ovarian cancer cell resistance to ferroptosis: The activation of NRF2/FSP1 pathway by junctional adhesion molecule JAM3.

Free Radic Biol Med

December 2024

Genetic and Prenatal Diagnosis Center, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, First Affiliated Hospital, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450052, China. Electronic address:

Ovarian cancer remains a significant challenge due to the lack of effective treatment and the resistance to conventional therapies. Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death characterized by iron-depend and lipid peroxidation, has emerged as a potential therapeutic target in cancer. Ovarian cancer has been reported to exert an "iron addiction" phenotype which makes it is susceptible to ferroptosis inducers.

Pathological vascular remodeling (VR) is characterized by structural and functional alterations in the vascular wall resulting from injury, which significantly contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The vascular wall consists primarily of endothelial cells (ECs), vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), and adventitial fibroblasts (AFs), whose interactions are crucial for both the formation of the vascular system and the maintenance of mature blood vessels. Disruptions in the communication between these cell types have been implicated in the progression of VR.

Survival feature and trend of female breast cancer: A comprehensive review of survival analysis from cancer registration data.

Breast

December 2024

Department of Epidemiology & State Key Laboratory of Systems Medicine for Cancer, Shanghai Cancer Institute, Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200032, China; School of Public Health, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200025, China; Health Management Center, Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200127, China.

To better understand global patterns, chronological changes, and international comparisons of female breast cancer survival, we reviewed published data from population-based cancer registries worldwide. Using PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, SEER, and SinoMed, a comprehensive literature search was conducted for female breast cancer survival from the population-based cancer registries through 31 December 2023. Observed, relative, and net survival rates and their corresponding age-standardized survival rates since the 1990s were collected and further stratified by prognostic factors.

Dynamic and sustainable supramolecular biolubrication coatings through nanoarchitectonics with dynamic BN bonding.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2024

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Orthopaedic Implants, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, 200041 Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Biological lubricating materials play a crucial role in normal human activities due to their extremely low coefficients of friction (COFs). However, synthetic friction materials typically exhibit higher friction coefficients and wear rates compared to natural lubricating materials. To address this issue, we propose a novel lubrication strategy: reducing the friction coefficient of synthetic lubricating materials through supramolecular dynamic exchange.

Background: There are only a few isolated studies that have examined ultrasound-guided magnetic resonance arthrography (USMRA) of the glenohumeral joint and subacromial bursa with the use of gadolinium contrast agent. This study aimed to determine the clinical value of USMRA in the diagnosis of supraspinatus tendon tears and its subtypes.

Methods: Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) was performed in 207 patients with shoulder pain as confirmed by arthroscopic examination, 103 of whom underwent shoulder joint magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and 104 of whom underwent USMRA.

Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used to treat various nervous and cardiovascular system-related conditions. Its active components, senkyunolide A (SA) and 3-n-butylphthalide (NBP), have been proven effective in treating nervous system diseases. A new method was established based on microdialysis coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to estimate the concentrations of these components in brain extracellular fluid.

Sepsis is a severe immune response to pathogens that is associated with high mortality rate and a paucity of efficacious treatment options. It is characterized by the hyperactivation of macrophages and the occurrence of cytokine storms. Given the anti-inflammatory properties of M2 macrophages and their derived apoptotic bodies (AB), as well as the specific uptake of these by macrophages, a novel approach was employed to combine AB with artificial liposomes to create apoptotic body based biomimetic hybrid nanovesicles (L-AB).
