Ultrasensitive determination of some ultra-low abundance biological molecules closely related to diseases is currently a wide concern and urgent issue to be addressed. Here, a spherical poly(acrylic acid)-alkaline phosphatase (SP-AKP) signal amplification block using spherical poly(acrylic acid) brush nanoparticles (SP) as the immobilized carriers was designed and synthesized optimally first. The results show that a single SP-AKP with high enzyme binding capacity and high catalytic ability (up to about 4800 effective free AKP per SP-AKP) has much greater fluorescence signal amplification ability than a single free AKP or SiO-COOH-AKP.

A novel photo-Fenton catalytic system for the removal of organic pollutants was presented, including the use of photo-Fenton process and a submerged magnetic separation membrane photocatalytic reactor (SMSMPR). We synthesized TiO-FeO composites as the photocatalyst and made full use of the magnetism of the photocatalyst to realize the recollection of the catalyst from the medium, which is critical to the commercialization of photocatalytic technology for wastewater treatment. The photo-Fenton performance of TiO-FeO is evaluated with amoxicillin trihydrate (AMX) as a target pollutant.

cell tracking can provide information on cell migration and accumulation in the organs. Here, both folate and amino modified polymer dots were synthesized and screened for and tracking of macrophage Ana-1 cells. Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated that prepared polymer dots showed cellular uptake of approximately 98% within a short incubation time of 2 h, and these polymer dots maintained a cell labeling rate over 97% after 2 d.

Rapid growth of tumor cells needs to consume large amounts of oxygen and glucose, due to lack of blood supply within the tumor, cells live in an environment that lack of oxygen and nutrients. This environment results in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and activates the UPR (unfolded protein response). SIRT2, a member of the sirtuin (SIRT1-7) family, is a tubulin deacetylase. It has been reported that SIRT2 mediates cellular stress responses and is highly expressed in vascular endothelial cells, while its roles in cell survival and energy metabolism of endothelial cells remain unknown. In the current study, we tested our hypothesis that SIRT2 plays an important role in the cell survival and energy metabolism of endothelial cells, using a porcine vascular endothelial cell line (PIEC) as a cellular model.

To study whether focal angiogenesis is induced in aged rodents after permanent distal middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO), young adult (3-month-old) and aged (24-month-old) Fisher 344 rats underwent MCAO and sacrificed up to two months after MCAO. Immunohistochemistry and synchrotron radiation microangiography were performed to examine the number of newly formed blood vessels in both young adult and aged rats post-ischemia. We found that the number of capillaries and small arteries in aged brain was the same as young adult brain.

Formononetin is a novel herbal isoflavonoid isolated from Astragalus membranaceus and possesses antitumorigenic properties. In the present study, we investigated the anti-proliferative effects of formononetin on human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and further elucidated the molecular mechanism underlying the anti-tumor property. MTT assay showed that formononetin treatment significantly inhibited the proliferation of two NSCLC cell lines including A549 and NCI-H23 in a time- and dose-dependent manner.

Results: Among the included patients, no difference was found between the two groups in local recurrence.
