The genetic heterogeneity of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) may impact clinical response and outcomes to targeted therapies. In second-line osimertinib treatment for NSCLC, real-world data on genetic biomarkers for treatment efficacy and prognosis remain incomplete. This real-world study involved 68 NSCLC patients receiving first-generation epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs).

Intensification of radiotherapy has been shown to be an effective way for improving the therapeutic efficacy of radiation sensitive malignancies such as esophageal cancer (EC). The application of DNA Bait (Dbait), a type of DNA repair inhibitor, is an emerging strategy for radiosensitization. In this study, a Eca-109 cancerous cytomembrane-cloaked biomimetic drug delivery system (DDS), CMEC-Dbait, was designed and successfully fabricated, for targeted delivery of Dbait.

The interaction between the immune cells and the host immune system with the tumor cells is significantly associated with the initiation and progression of prostate adenocarcinoma (PRAD), whereas the application of immune-related genes (IRGs) for the prognosis evaluation of PRAD patients is still lacking. In this study, we aimed to identify IRGs with prognostic values and to develop a clinically effective risk model. Wilcoxon rank-sum test and univariate Cox analysis were applied to identify the differentially expressed immune-related genes (DEIRGs) related to the survival of PRAD patients.

Existing staging system for prognosis evaluating for Skin Cutaneous Melanoma (SKCM) patients had defects of subjective, inaccuracy and inconsistently, therefore, to identify specific and applicable prognostic markers and promote personalized therapeutic interventions is urgently required. This study aims to build a robust autophagy-related genes (ARGs) signature for prognosis monitoring of SKCM patients. We determined 26 ARGs as differentially expressed autophagy-related genes (DEARGs) from 103 SKCM and 23 normal skin samples in GSE15605 and GSE3189 datasets.

Generation of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) via cell expansion or cell reprogramming has been widely achieved by overexpression of transcription factors. Herein, it is reported that without introducing exogenous genes, mouse fibroblasts can be reprogrammed into hemogenic cells based on lineage tracing analysis, which further develop into hematopoietic cells, by treatment of cocktails of chemical compounds. The chemical cocktails also reprogram differentiated hematopoietic cells back into HSPC-like cells.

Background: The aims of this study were to investigate the differences in executive function and the relationship with clinical factors between drug-naïve patients with bipolar depression (BDD) and unipolar depression (UPD).
Methods: Drug-naïve patients with BDD, UPD and healthy controls (HC) were recruited (30 cases in each group). All patients were assessed with Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HAM-A), Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression-17 (HAM-D), and Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS).

NAD(+) and NADH play pivotal roles in numerous redox reactions in cells. While increasing evidence has indicated important roles of NAD(+) in cell survival and cellular functions, there has been distinct deficiency in the studies regarding the biological functions of NADH. NADH shuttles mediate the transfer of the reducing equivalents of the cytosolic NADH into mitochondria.

CD38 is an ecto-enzyme that consumes NAD(+) to produce cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR) --- a potent agonist of ryanodine receptors. Recent studies have suggested CD38 may play significant roles in both ischemic brain injury and traumatic brain injury, while the mechanisms underlying the roles of CD38 in neurological diseases remain unclear. Because oxidative stress plays key roles in both ischemic brain damage and traumatic brain damage, in this study we used primary astrocyte cultures as a experimental model to test our hypothesis that CD38 may play significant roles in oxidative stress-induced neural cell death.
