Purpose: To explore if recentering the humeral head could improve shoulder abduction in shoulders with irreparable massive rotator cuff tears (IMRCTs).
Methods: Nine fresh-frozen cadaveric shoulders were used to simulate the intact condition and IMRCTs as controls. Four 'recenter' interventions were then sequentially applied: subacromial interposition (SI) using 4- and 8-mm spacers and superior capsule reconstruction (SCR) using two- and four-layer fascia lata grafts.

Thiram is a readily synthesized, cost-effective antimicrobial agent widely used to control diseases in fruits and vegetables. Given the potential health hazards associated with thiram residues and advancements in detection methods, it is crucial to develop a rapid and sensitive technique for detecting these residues on fruit surfaces. Here, we prepared the Ag@filter paper (Ag@FP) surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate in a controlled manner and innovatively developed a capillarity-assisted SERS (CA-SERS) detection method.

Background: Preimplantation genetic testing for chromosomal structural rearrangements (PGT-SR) has been widely utilized to select euploid embryos in patients carrying balanced chromosomal rearrangements (BCRs) by chromosome copy number analysis. However, reliable and extensively validated PGT-SR methods for selecting embryos without BCRs in large-cohort studies are lacking.
Methods: In this prospective, multicenter, cohort study, carriers with BCRs undergoing PGT-SR were recruited across 12 academic fertility centers within China.

Microbial pathogens and other parasites can modify the development of their hosts, either as a target or a side effect of their virulence activities. The plant-pathogenic bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum, causal agent of the devastating bacterial wilt disease, is a soilborne microbe that invades host plants through their roots and later proliferates in xylem vessels. In this work, we studied the early stages of R.

Direct recycling technology can effectively solve the environmental pollution and resource waste problems caused by spent lithium-ion batteries. However, the repaired LiNiCoMnO (NCM) black mass by direct recycling technology shows an unsatisfactory cycle life, which is attributed to the formation of spinel/rock salt phases and rotational stacking faults caused by the in-plane and out-of-plane migration of transition metal (TM) atoms during charge/discharge. Herein, local lattice stress is introduced into the regenerated cathode during repair.

Background: Vasoepididymostomy (VE) is an important surgical treatment to achieve natural conception for patients with obstructive azoospermia (OA), and only unilateral VE can be performed under certain conditions, such as OA patients with congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens (CUAVD) and some acquired OA. There is a lack of relevant reports assessing the clinical outcomes of unilateral VE in OA patients with different causes. This study is aimed to describe the clinical features and evaluate treatments and outcomes of unilateral single-armed VE in OA patients.

Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a common birth defect. Our previous studies suggest that indoor air pollution, especially total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs), may increase fetal CHD risk, whereas vitamin and folic acid (FA) supplements in early pregnancy might offer protection against CHD. However, limited research has explored whether FA or multivitamin supplementation can mitigate the effects of TVOCs exposure on CHD.

Background: The diversity-generating retroelements (DGRs) are a family of genetic elements that can produce mutations in target genes often related to ligand-binding functions, which possess a C-type lectin (CLec) domain that tolerates massive variations. They were first identified in viruses, then in bacteria and archaea from human-associated and environmental genomes. This DGR mechanism represents a fast adaptation of organisms to ever- changing environments.

Social functioning impairment is a core symptom of schizophrenia (SCZ). Yet, the computational and neural mechanisms of social coordination in SCZ under real-time and naturalistic settings are poorly understood. Here, we instructed patients with SCZ to coordinate with a healthy control (HC) in a joint finger-tapping task, during which their brain activity was measured by functional near-infrared spectroscopy simultaneously.
