[Boosting the innovation transformation of clinical medicine based on core technology in anesthesiology].

The core technologies proposed in surgery have boosted the innovation transformation and disciplinary development. However, the core technologies in anesthesiology remain undefined both domestically and internationally. Through collaborative discussions among Chinese anesthesiologists, the core technologies of anesthesiology can be succinctly summarized as Relief of pain, Regulation of life, Resuscitation, and Restoration of organ function, and collectively referred to as the 4R technologies.

Effect of insulin sensitivity, insulin secretion, and beta cell function on the remission of type 2 diabetes: A post hoc analysis of the IDEATE trial.

Aims: To compare the probability of achieving diabetes remission in individuals with different phenotypes of insulin sensitivity, insulin secretion, and beta cell function and further detect the effects of diet, exercise, and lifestyle education intervention on these indexes.

Methods: Three-hundred and one participants who had glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) data at baseline and after intervention were included for this post hoc analysis. We used the multi-way analysis of variance to assess the differences between the diabetes remission and non-remission groups or between intervention groups in changes of the indexes of insulin sensitivity, insulin secretion, and beta cell function.

Diagnostic Accuracy of a Point-Of-Care aMMP-8 Test for Discriminating Periodontal Health Status in Adults: Validation Trials and Updated Meta-Analysis.

Aim: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of an active matrix metalloproteinase-8 (aMMP-8) point-of-care oral rinse test (POC-ORT) for predicting periodontitis in treatment-naïve subjects in two independent studies and update a recent meta-analysis.

Methods: The aMMP-8 POC-ORT index test was performed in a representative population in Hong Kong, China, and a consecutive convenience sample in Shanghai, China. The reference standard was the 2017 World Workshop classification of periodontal diseases.

TOM500: A Multi-Organ Annotated Orbital MRI Dataset for Thyroid Eye Disease.

This study presents TOM500, a comprehensive multi-organ annotated orbital magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) dataset. It includes clinical data, T2-weighted MRI scans, and corresponding segmentations from 500 patients with thyroid eye disease (TED) during their initial visit. TED is a common autoimmune disorder with distinct orbital MRI features.

Immune functions decline with aging, leading to increased susceptibility to various diseases including tumors. Exploring aging-related molecular targets in elderly patients with cancer is thus highly sought after. Here we find that an ER transmembrane enzyme, sterol O-acyltransferase 2 (SOAT2), is overexpressed in regulatory T (Treg) cells from elderly patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), while radiomics analysis of LSCC patients associates increased SOAT2 expression with reduced immune infiltration and poor prognosis.

Oncogenic role of RARG rearrangements in acute myeloid leukemia resembling acute promyelocytic leukemia.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) featuring retinoic acid receptor-gamma (RARG) rearrangements exhibits morphological features resembling those of acute promyelocytic leukemia but is associated with drug resistance and poor clinical outcomes. However, the mechanisms underlying the role of RARG fusions in leukemogenesis remain elusive. Here, we show that RARG fusions disrupt myeloid differentiation and promote proliferation and self-renewal of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) by upregulating BCL2 and ATF3.

Engineered Microneedle System Enables the Smart Regulation of Nanodynamic Sterilization and Tissue Regeneration for Wound Management.

The healing of bacterial biofilm-infected wounds is a complex process, and the construction of emerging therapeutic modalities that regulate the microenvironment to magnify therapeutic effects and reduce biotoxicity is still highly challenging. Herein, an engineered microneedle (MN) patch is reported to mediate the efficient delivery of black phosphorus nanosheets (BP NSs) and copper peroxide nanodots (CP NDs) for dual nanodynamic sterilization and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected wound healing. Results demonstrate that the system can eliminate biofilm, reduce cytotoxicity, promote angiogenesis and tissue regeneration by the multiple advantages of chemodynamic therapy (CDT), enhanced photodynamic therapy (PDT), and improved degradation process from BP NSs to phosphate for promoting cell proliferation.

Clonal haematopoiesis of indeterminate potential and risk of microvascular complications among individuals with type 2 diabetes: a cohort study.

Clonal haematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) is associated with macrovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease and stroke. However, the effects of CHIP on microvascular complication have not been evaluated in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study included 20,712 T2D participants without prevalent diabetic microvascular complication (DMCs) and hematologic malignancy at baseline.

Multidimensional morphological analysis of live sperm based on multiple-target tracking.

Manual semen evaluation methods are subjective and time-consuming. In this study, a deep learning algorithmic framework was designed to enable non-invasive multidimensional morphological analysis of live sperm in motion, improve current clinical sperm morphology testing methods, and significantly contribute to the advancement of assisted reproductive technologies. We improved the FairMOT tracking algorithm by incorporating the distance and angle of the same sperm head movement in adjacent frames, as well as the head target detection frame IOU value, into the cost function of the Hungarian matching algorithm.
