Background: To develop and evaluate a modified four vessel occlusion (4VO) model of global cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (GCI/R) in rats based on the Pulsinelli and Brierley's method.
New Methods: Vertebral arteries (VAs) were isolated and then permanently ligated with 5-0 nylon surgical sutures under visual conditions. A total of 24 h later, GCI was induced by transient clipping of the bilateral common carotid artery for 20 min.

Background: Curative medical treatment for patients with discogenic sciatica is limited. Acupuncture is an important non-pharmacological therapy reported to have positive therapeutic effects on discogenic sciatica. According to traditional Chinese acupuncture theory, discogenic sciatica is a channel tendon disease which can be treated by a special "Fan-zhen Jie-ci (FZJC)" method.

Delta-opioid receptor (DOR) is widely distributed in the central nervous system, and its activation protects against ischaemic/hypoxic brain injury. However, the role of DOR in microglia in ischaemic stroke has not yet been fully investigated. We found that DOR was expressed in both human and mouse cerebral microglia, besides, it was upregulated in activated BV2 microglial cells by immunofluorescence staining and Western blot.

Objective: To compare the clinical effect on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) of lung deficiency at the stable stage treated with ginger-separated moxibustion and Chinese herbal medicine atomizaiton.
Methods: A total of 90 patients with COPD of lung deficiency at the stable stage were randomized into an observation group (45 cases, 1 case dropped off) and a control group (45 cases, 2 cases dropped off). In the observation group, the ginger-separated moxibustion was applied to Dazhui (GV 14), Feishu (BL 13) and Gaohuangshu (BL 43), 2 moxa cones at each acupoint in each treatment.

The brainstem, the core of the central nervous system, plays a vital role in controlling arterial blood pressure and its elevation of hypertension subtypes, especially essential hypertension. Integrative metabolic and proteomic profiling was performed on the brainstem samples of 11 week old spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) and age-matched normotensive Wistar rats, using hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography quadrupole/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HILIC-Q/TOFMS) (PeptideAtlas: PASS01621) and nano-liquid chromatography-high-resolution-MS (nano-LC-high-resolution) combined with quantitative tandem mass tags (ProteomeXchange: PXD021210). The results showed a potentially significant measure of metabolic disorders in the brainstem of SHRs, including purine and pyrimidine metabolism and carnitine and acylcarnitine deficiency.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of electroacupuncture in the treatment of simple obesity.
Methods: Randomized clinical trials concerning electroacupuncture as a treatment of simple obesity published prior to October 31, 2019, were searched in the following Chinese and English databases: Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus. After data collection and quality evaluation, meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.

Background: Low back pain is a common reason for medical care and carries a heavy social burden. The efficacy of Tuina or health care education for low back pain has been evaluated in previous systematic reviews. However, there is no evidence to support the superiority of one form of treatment over another.

Background: Subthreshold depression (StD) is a prevalent condition that may increase the risk of incident major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the relationship between StD and MDD remains unclear.
Methods: A total of 153 adult subjects, including 53 drug-naive MDD, 50 StD and 50 healthy control (HC) subjects, underwent a T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging scan, and the gray matter volume (GMV) alterations among the three groups were quantitatively analyzed using voxel-based morphometry (VBM).

Background: Many studies have shown the potential therapeutic effect of acupuncture on allergic rhinitis. Most of these studies were limited by low-quality evidence. Preliminary experiments showed that the use of acupuncture at three nasal acupoints plus acupoint application (AAP) achieves a more persistent effect in the treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis than acupuncture alone.

Scutellaria barbata has a long history of medical use in Traditional Chinese Medicine for removing heat and toxic material, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and inducing diuresis to reduce edema. Recent pharmacology investigations have provided evidence for its anti-cancer, bacteriostasis, anti-virus, anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation and immunity enhancement properties. The efficacy of activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis has unique advantages in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Objective: To observe the effect of moxibustion pretreatment at different time on serum hormone levels in diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) rats, so as to explore its protective mechanisms.
Methods: Forty female SD rats were randomly divided into control, model, moxibustion-1 (moxibustion was given 4 weeks before modeling), moxibustion-2 (moxibustion was given 2 weeks before modeling and 2 weeks from the 1st day on after modeling ) and moxibustion-3 (moxibustion was given 4 weeks from the 1st day on after modeling) groups (=8 rats in each group). The DOR model was established by gavage of Tripterygium Glycosides (75 mg/kg) once daily for 14 days.

Crohn's disease may cause excessive damage and repair in the intestinal epithelium due to its chronic relapsing intestinal inflammation. These factors may initiate the TGF- 1-Smad pathway to activate the transcription factor of Snail, and the Snail-mediated pathway promotes the transformation of intestinal epithelial cells to mesenchymal cells, leading to intestinal fibrosis. Acupuncture and moxibustion have been demonstrated to prevent intestinal fibrosis in Crohn's disease.

Neonatal seizures are different from adult seizures, and many antiepileptic drugs that are effective in adults often fail to treat neonates. Here, we report that gluconate inhibits neonatal seizure by inhibiting CLC-3 chloride channels. We detect a voltage-dependent outward rectifying Cl current mediated by CLC-3 Cl channels in early developing brains but not adult mouse brains.
