In this paper, we propose a novel method for temperature measurement using surface acoustic wave (SAW) temperature sensors on curved or irregular surfaces. We integrate SAW resonators onto flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs) to ensure better conformity of the temperature sensor with the surface of the object under test. Compared to traditional rigid PCBs, FPCBs offer greater dynamic flexibility, lighter weight, and thinner thickness, which make them an ideal choice for making SAW devices working for temperature measurements under curved surfaces.

The surface acoustic wave (SAW) temperature sensor has received significant attention due to its wirelessly powered, battery-free, and chipless capabilities. This paper proposes a wireless sensing system comprising a one-port SAW resonator, helix antenna, and transceiver circuit. The SAW resonator used in this system is based on aluminum nitride (AlN) thin film, which exhibits high velocity and excellent piezoelectric properties.

Ultrasonic nondestructive testing (NDT) usually utilizes conventional bulk piezoelectric transducers as transceivers. However, the complicated preparation and assembly process of bulk piezoelectric ceramics limits the development of NDT probes toward miniaturization and high frequency. In this paper, a 4.

This paper presents a design and optimization method utilizing inductive coupling coils for wireless power transfer in implantable neural recording microsystems, aiming at maximizing power transfer efficiency, which is essential for reducing externally transmitted power and ensuring biological tissue safety. The modeling of inductive coupling is simplified by combining semi-empirical formulations with theoretical models. By introducing the optimal resonant load transformation, the coil optimization is decoupled from an actual load impedance.

The color reflector with multiple-layer thin film scheme has attracted much attention because of the potential for massive production by wafer-scale deposition and the possibility to integrate with photonics (semiconductor) devices. Here, an angle-insensitive green reflector with a simple multilayer dielectric thin film structure was reported, with predicted chromatic coordinates based on CIE 1931 standard. The SiN/SiO multilayer thin film stack, including a special silicon-rich nitride material with ultrahigh refractive index, was grown alternatively by an inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICPCVD) system at a low stage temperature of 80 °C.

To achieve a wide range and high accuracy detection of the vacuum level, for example, in an encapsulated vacuum microcavity, a composite-type MEMS Pirani gauge has been designed and fabricated. The Pirani gauge consists of two gauges of different sizes connected in series, with one gauge having a larger heat-sensitive area and a larger air gap for extending the lower measurable limit of pressure (i.e.

We present the design of Ge/Si avalanche photodetectors with SiN stressor-induced Ge strain for the C+L band light detection. By optimizing the placement position and thickness of the SiN layer with compressive stress, a uniform strain distribution with a maximum magnitude of 0.59% was achieved in Ge.

This paper presents a novel bimorph Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer (PMUT) fabricated with 8-inch standard CMOS-compatible processes. The bimorph structure consists of two layers of 20% scandium-doped aluminum nitride (ScAlN) thin films, which are sandwiched among three molybdenum (Mo) layers. All three Mo layers are segmented to form the outer ring and inner plate electrodes.

Thermal inkjet printing can generate more than 300,000 droplets of picoliter scale within one second stably, and the image analysis workflow is used to quantify the positive and negative values of the droplets. In this paper, the SimpleBlobDetector detection algorithm is used to identify and localize droplets with a volume of 24 pL in bright field images and suppress bright spots and scratches when performing droplet location identification. The polynomial surface fitting of the pixel grayscale value of the fluorescence channel image can effectively compensate and correct the image vignetting caused by the optical path, and the compensated fluorescence image can accurately classify positive and negative droplets by the k-means clustering algorithm.

Mixtures of layered perovskite quantum wells with different sizes form prototypical light-harvesting antenna structures in solution-processed films. Gradients in the bandgaps and energy levels are established by concentrating the smallest and largest quantum wells near opposing electrodes in photovoltaic devices. Whereas short-range energy and charge carrier funneling behaviors have been observed in layered perovskites, our recent work suggests that such light-harvesting processes do not assist long-range charge transport due to carrier trapping at interfaces between quantum wells and interstitial organic spacer molecules.

In this work, three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA) of quasi-surface acoustic wave (QSAW) resonators with high accuracy is reported. The QSAW resonators consist of simple molybdenum (Mo) interdigitated transducers (IDT) on solidly mounted stacked layers of AlN/Mo/Si. Different to the SAW resonators operating in the piezoelectric substrates, the reported resonators are operating in the QSAW mode, since the IDT-excited Rayleigh waves not only propagate in the thin piezoelectric layer of AlN, but also penetrate the Si substrate.

Optical frequency combs, which emit pulses of light at discrete, equally spaced frequencies, are cornerstones of modern-day frequency metrology, precision spectroscopy, astronomical observations, ultrafast optics and quantum information. Chip-scale frequency combs, based on the Kerr and Raman nonlinearities in monolithic microresonators with ultrahigh quality factors, have recently led to progress in optical clockwork and observations of temporal cavity solitons. But the chromatic dispersion within a laser cavity, which determines the comb formation, is usually difficult to tune with an electric field, whether in microcavities or fibre cavities.
