Background: Klemera-Doubal's method (KDM) is an advanced and widely applied algorithm for estimating biological age (BA), but it has no uniform paradigm for biomarker processing. This article proposed all subsets of biomarkers for estimating BAs and assessed their association with mortality to determine the most predictive subset and BA.

Methods: Clinical biomarkers, including those from physical examinations and blood assays, were assessed in the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) 2009 wave.

Purpose: Soluble vascular adhesion protein-1 (sVAP-1) and adropin are 2 biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the levels of sVAP-1 in patients with moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) compared to healthy controls, and to further determine the relationship between sVAP-1 and adropin levels, as well as inflammatory biomarkers and sleep parameters.

Methods: In this study, we included 50 male patients with OSA (25 moderate and 25 severe) and 20 age- and sex-matched control subjects.

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease commonly observed in the elderly, and its pathogenesis is associated with declined osteogenic differentiation. Osteogenic differentiation could be facilitated by the activation of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway. Saxagliptin, an anti-diabetic agent with inhibitory effects against dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4), has been recently reported to induce the activation of the AMPK pathway.

Background And Purpose: Medullary infarction (MI) caused by spontaneous vertebral artery dissection (sVAD) is an important type of stroke. It is important to distinguish sVAD from other causes of stroke since the treatment strategies and prognosis were different between them. In this study, we aimed to explore the clinical and radiological features of MI in patients with acute MI caused by sVAD.

The present study aimed to explore the potential mechanism of the effect of hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) preconditioning on cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury (CIRI). GSE23160 dataset was used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from striatum between the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO)/reperfusion and sham rats. The gene clusters with continuous increase and decrease were identified by soft clustering analysis in Mfuzz, and functional enrichment analysis of these genes was performed using clusterProfiler package.

The involvement of gut microbiota in T-cell trafficking into tumor tissue of colorectal cancer (CRC) remains to be further elucidated. The current study aimed to evaluate the expression of major cytotoxic T-cell trafficking chemokines (CTTCs) and chemokine-associated microbiota profiles in both tumor and adjacent normal tissues during CRC progression. We analyzed the expression of chemokine C-X-C motif ligands 9, 10, and 11 (, , and ), and C-C motif ligand 5 (), characterized gut mucosa-associated microbiota (MAM), and investigated their correlations in CRC patients.

Endometrial stem/progenitor cells have been proved to exist in periodically regenerated female endometrium and can be divided into three categories: endometrial epithelial stem/progenitor cells, CD140bCD146 or SUSD2 endometrial mesenchymal stem cells (eMSCs), and side population cells (SPs). Endometrial stem/progenitor cells in the menstruation blood are defined as menstrual stem cells (MenSCs). Due to their abundant sources, excellent proliferation, and autotransplantation capabilities, MenSCs are ideal candidates for cell-based therapy in regenerative medicine, inflammation, and immune-related diseases.

The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO): Clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, 2021.

Cancer Commun (Lond)

August 2021

Department of Medical Oncology, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510060, P. R. China.

There exist differences in the epidemiological characteristics, clinicopathological features, tumor biological characteristics, treatment patterns, and drug selections between gastric cancer patients from the Eastern and Western countries. The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) has organized a panel of senior experts specializing in all sub-specialties of gastric cancer to compile a clinical guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer since 2016 and renews it annually. Taking into account regional differences, giving full consideration to the accessibility of diagnosis and treatment resources, these experts have conducted expert consensus judgment on relevant evidence and made various grades of recommendations for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer to reflect the value of cancer treatment and meeting health economic indexes in China.

Background: At present, the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) by aticepase (rt-PA) in emergency veins has become the main treatment mode in hospital, but the research on early hemorrhage complications in patients with emergency thrombolysis is rarely reported. This research aims to study the earlier warning index of early hemorrhage complications in patients with emergency thrombolysis.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of rt-PA intravenous thrombolysis-treated AIS patients in the advanced stroke center of the emergency department of a tertiary grade hospital from January 2018 to May 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how out-patients at tertiary hospitals exhibit 'inappropriate diagnosed seeking behaviour' and its links to social factors.
  • A qualitative approach was used, incorporating field observations and in-depth interviews with 26 participants across three hospitals in Shanghai.
  • Findings reveal a connection between out-patients' limited knowledge (about policies and health) and their distrust of medical systems, highlighting the need for improved public knowledge and trust in healthcare.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most malignant gynecological cancers around the world. In spite of multiple treatment options, the five-year survival rate is still very low. Several metabolism alterations are described as a hallmark in cancers, but alterations of lipid metabolism in ovarian cancer have been paid less attention.

High prevalence of elevated serum liver enzymes in Chinese children suggests metabolic syndrome as a common risk factor.

J Paediatr Child Health

October 2020

Department of Endocrinology, The Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Child Health, Hangzhou, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study looked at liver enzyme patterns in 16,383 Chinese children and adolescents (ages 4-18) to understand how these enzymes relate to health issues like metabolic syndrome.
  • - Researchers used data like weight, height, and blood tests, applying a machine learning technique to find six different patterns of elevated liver enzymes among participants.
  • - Two main groups were identified: one group showed elevated liver enzymes without metabolic syndrome features, while the other had increased liver enzymes along with significant metabolic syndrome characteristics. Further research on the second group's health risks is needed.

B lymphocytes are the source of autoantibodies against the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) in Graves' disease (GD). Characterization of autoimmune B-cell expression profiles might enable a better understanding of GD pathogenesis. To reveal this, the expression levels of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and mRNAs (genes) in purified B cells from patients with newly diagnosed GD and healthy individuals were compared using microarrays, which elucidated 604 differentially expressed lncRNAs (DE-lncRNAs) and 410 differentially expressed genes (DEGs).
