Background: Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) has been shown to be applicable as a hip-preserving technique for the treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The approach could be designed preoperatively using various types of reverse-engineering software and finite element analysis, but how to implement it in the actual PAO remains a challenge. This study examines and evaluates a solution to achieve higher accuracy when performing a PAO.

Pregnancy is a hypercoagulable state associated with an increased risk of venous thrombosis. Calibrated automated thrombogram (CAT) is a test to monitor the thrombin generation (TG), a laboratory marker of thrombosis risk, and increases during normal pregnancy, but it is still unclear whether TG is related to the use of insulin in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). We performed thrombin generation by CAT on 135 normal pregnant women, including 43 in first trimester, 32 in second trimester, 60 in third trimester, respectively; 68 pregnant women with GDM were also enrolled, 19 patients with GDM using insulin to control blood glucose and 49 patients control their blood glucose through diet and exercise with noninsulin treatment.

Objective: Uncertainty remains regarding the predictive value of various glycemic measures as they relate to the risk of diabetes and its complications. Using the cutoffs recommended by the American Diabetes Association's 2010 criteria, we determined the associations of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2-h postload glucose (2h-PG), and HbA with the outcomes.
Research Design And Methods: Baseline medical history, FPG, 2h-PG, and HbA were obtained from a population-based cohort of 193,846 adults aged ≥40 years in China during 2011-2012.

The G1 cell cycle inhibitors tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) have been identified as novel biomarkers for the prediction of moderate to severe acute kidney injury (AKI) risk. However, the prognostic value of [TIMP-2]•[IGFBP7] in predicting adverse outcomes in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with AKI was not previously described. To evaluate this, we conducted a cohort study, measuring [TIMP2]•[IGFBP7] levels in critically ill patients admitted to the ICU and classified the patients as NephroCheck (NC) (+) or NC (-) according to [TIMP-2]•[IGFBP7] values and AKI (+) or AKI (-) according to Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) criteria.

Background: Multimodal intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) has been proposed as an effective way to reduce permanent neurologic injury during spinal deformity surgery. However, few studies have reported evoked potential changes at different surgical stages of thoracic posterior vertebral column resection (PVCR).
Methods: A total of 82 cases with severe thoracic deformity (Yang's A type) treated by PVCR in a single institution between January 2010 and March 2015 were reviewed.

Background: The preferred type of postremission therapy (PRT) for intermediate-risk acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first complete remission (CR1) is a subject of continued debate. Although allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) is regarded as a curative strategy for AML, the efficacy of autologous stem cell transplantation (autoSCT) for patients without a matched sibling donor (MSD) has remained controversial.
Methods: To compare survival outcomes after alloSCT versus autoSCT for patients with intermediate-risk AML in CR1, we performed a meta-analysis of 11 clinical studies.

Background Context: In-brace correction (IBC) plays an important role in curve progression of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) under brace treatment. We evaluated the coronal deformity angular ratio (C-DAR) as a potential predictor of IBC. Based on our experience, we postulated that a high C-DAR may result in low IBC.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is a disease that is not uncommon, but the treatments vary drastically between Eastern and Western countries. In Europe and America, the first line of treatment is systemic therapy such as sorafenib and the surgical treatment is not a recommend option. While an increasing number of studies from China and Japan have suggested that surgical treatment results in better outcomes when compared to transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), sorafenib, or other nonsurgical treatments, and two classification systems, Japanese Vp classification and Chinese Cheng's classification, were very useful to guide the surgical treatment.

Metabolic reprogramming plays a critical role in the important cellular metabolic alterations that occur during the activation of immune cells to enable them to adapt to the extracellular environment. Here, we review recent studies on how substrate availability and metabolites mediate the signalling pathways that regulate fatty acid synthesis (FAS) in different immune cells and how FAS determines cellular fate and function. The major regulators sterol regulatory element-binding proteins and liver X receptors, the key enzyme ATP citrate lyase and the PI3K-Akt-mTOR signalling axis play important roles in de novo FAS during a variety of biological events, including cellular proliferation and differentiation and the development of organelles and intracellular membrane components in immune cells.
