The immune system mediates inflammation, vascularization and the first response to injuries or implanted biomaterials. Although the function of neutrophils in tissue repair has been extensively studied, its complete role in the tissue regeneration of biomaterials, specifically the resolution of inflammation and promotion of angiogenesis, is unclear. Here, we fabricate nanofibrous gelatin scaffolds containing 10% (w/w) strontium-hydroxyapatite (SrHA) via phase-separation methods to investigate Sr-mediated regulation of neutrophil polarization and, subsequently, the effects on angiogenesis and macrophage polarization.

Objective: Proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) is a common sagittal complication of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) after corrective surgery, leading to new deformities, pain, and, even, revision surgery. In the present study, we investigated the risk and predictive factors for PJK in patients who had undergone Lenke type 5 AIS correction to identify the parameters relevant to intraoperative guidance.
Methods: A total of 35 patients with Lenke type 5 AIS who had undergone corrective surgery at our hospital from January 2008 to February 2016 were divided into the PJK (n = 15) and non-PJK (n = 20) groups.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs commonly in the intensive care unit (ICU). Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2), known as [TIMP-2] x [IGFBP7] (NephroCheck), have been identified as novel biomarkers for the prediction of AKI risk. However, the effective use of disease biomarkers is indispensable from an appropriate clinical context.

Emitasvir is a new type of hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A) inhibitor, and the data of phase 2 trial has shown emitasvir-sofosbuvir to have good safety and tolerance. We conducted this phase 3 trial to further verify the efficacy and safety. We evaluated the antiviral activity and safety of a 12-week regimen of emitasvir phosphate (100 mg) combined with sofosbuvir (400 mg) once daily in non-cirrhotic patients with genotype 1 HCV infection.

Objectives: Identification of acute kidney injury (AKI) can be challenging in patients with a variety of clinical features at intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and the capacity of biomarkers in this subpopulation has been poorly studied. In our study we examined the influence that patients' clinical features at ICU admission have over the predicting ability of the combination of urinary tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP2) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (IGFBP7).
Methods: Urinary [TIMP2]•[IGFBP7] were measured for all patients upon admission to ICU.

The induction therapy containing ixazomib, an oral proteasome inhibitor, has shown favorable efficacy and safety in clinical trials, but its experience in real-life remains limited. In routine practice, few patients received ixazomib-based induction therapy due to reasons including (1) patients' preference on oral regimens, (2) concerns on adverse events (AEs) of other intravenous/subcutaneous regimens, (3) requirements for less center visits, and (4) fears of COVID-19 and other infectious disease exposures. With the aim of assessing the real-life effectiveness and safety of ixazomib-based induction therapy, we performed this multi-center, observational study on 85 newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) patients from 14 medical centers.

Thyroid nodules are very common all over the world, and China is no exception. Ultrasound plays an important role in determining the risk stratification of thyroid nodules, which is critical for clinical management of thyroid nodules. For the past few years, many versions of TIRADS (Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System) have been put forward by several institutions with the aim to identify whether nodules require fine-needle biopsy or ultrasound follow-up.

Background And Objectives: To identify the optimal range and the minimum number of lymph nodes (LNs) to be examined to maximize survival time of patients with curatively resected gallbladder adenocarcinoma (GBAC).
Methods: Data were collected from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database on patients with GBAC who underwent curative resection between 2004 and 2015. A Bayesian network (BN) model was constructed to identify the optimal range of harvested LNs.

Background: In this study, we developed a nomogram and a Bayesian network (BN) model for prediction of survival in gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) patients following surgery and compared the performance of the two models.
Methods: Survival prediction models were established and validated using data from 698 patients with GBC who underwent curative-intent resection between 2008 and 2017 at one of six Chinese tertiary hospitals. Model construction and internal validation were performed using data from 381 patients at one hepatobiliary center, and external validation was then performed using data from 317 patients at the other five centers.

Polydactyly frequently exhibits autosomal dominant inheritance, which is characterized by supernumerary fingers or toes. The growth of the limb was controlled by three signaling pathways in three-dimensional axis. Sonic Hedgehog signaling, which controls the anterior to posterior (radial to ulnar) orientation has been suspected to be a main cause for polydactyly.
