As an emerging discipline, panvascular diseases are a set of vascular diseases with atherosclerosis as the common pathogenic hallmark, which mostly affect vital organs like the heart, brain, kidney, and limbs. As the major responser to the most common stressor in the vasculature (hypoxia)-hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), and the primary regulator of pressure and oxygen delivery in the vasculature-vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), their own multifaceted nature and their interactions with each other are fascinating. Abnormally active VSMCs (e.

Identification of ACKR4 as an immune checkpoint in pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Front Immunol

July 2023

Shanghai Clinical Research Center for Rare Pediatric Diseases, Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC), School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Inflammation plays a key role in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), with immune cell activity being regulated by chemokines and their receptors; this study focuses on identifying crucial chemokines involved in PAH progression through transcriptomic analysis.
  • Researchers analyzed gene expression data from PAH patients compared to controls, using methods like gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) to discover diagnostic markers and understand immune cell involvement.
  • The study found that ACKR4, an atypical chemokine receptor, was downregulated in PAH lung tissues, correlating with reduced immune cell activation; this suggests that ACKR4 may play a protective

Mitochondrial aspartate/glutamate carrier AGC1 regulates cardiac function via Drp1-mediated mitochondrial fission in doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy.

Transl Res

November 2023

Department of Cardiology, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai 200032, China; Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Shanghai 200032, China; National Clinical Research Center for Interventional Medicine, Shanghai Clinical Research Center for Interventional Medicine, Shanghai 200032, China. Electronic address:

Mitochondrial fission has been noted in the pathogenesis of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), but the underlying specific regulatory mechanism, especially in the development of doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiomyopathy remains unclear. In the present study, we explore whether the aspartate-glutamate carrier1 (AGC1) interacts with the fission protein dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) and reveal the functional and molecular mechanisms contributing to DOX-induced cardiomyopathy. Results of co-immunoprecipitation mass spectrometry (CO-IP MS) analysis based on heart tissue of DCM patients revealed that AGC1 expression was significantly upregulated in DCM-induced injury and AGC1 level was closely correlated with mitochondrial morphogenesis and function.

In food manufacturing and particular biomedical products selected proteins are often required. Obtaining the desired proteins in a pure form from natural resources is therefore important, but often very challenging. Herein, we design a sequential coacervation process that allows to efficiently isolate and purify proteins with different isoelectric points (pIs) from a mixed solution, namely Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA, pI = 4.

Purpose: Photoreceptor (PR) death is the ultimate cause of irreversible vision loss in retinal detachment (RD). Although microglial infiltration in the subretinal space (SRS) was observed after RD, the molecular mechanism underlying microglial activation and the outcomes of infiltrating microglia remain unclear. We aimed to uncover the mechanism of initiation of microglial activation to help explore potential therapy to promote PR survival.
