Background: The excessive activation of the microglia leads to the release of inflammatory factors that contribute to neuronal cell loss and neurodegeneration in Parkinson's Disease (PD). Mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) that belongs to a newly found neurotrophic factors (NTFs) family has been reported to promote neuronal survival in the PD models. However, the effects of the MANF on neuroinflammation in PD remain unclear.

Purpose Of Review: The current review presents recent updates in the seminal literature of research on prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) in small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
Recent Findings: Brain MRI restaging before the administration of PCI reveals a substantial proportion of brain metastasis in baseline brain metastasis free extensive-stage SCLC (ES-SCLC) and limited-stage SCLC (LS-SCLC). Posthoc analyses from the CASPIAN and IMpower133 trials revealed decreases in brain metastasis rates in ES-SCLC treated with chemoimmunotherapy relative to the brain metastasis rates in ES-SCLC treated with chemotherapy alone.

To improve radiotherapy effect by inducing more toxicity for tumors and less for normal tissue and switching immunosuppressive microenvironment caused by expression of PD-L1 and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) to immunoreactive microenvironment, we designed a PD-L1-targeted nanoplatform consisting of gold nanoparticles and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (antiPD-L1-SPIOs@PLGA@Au). In vivo T2-weighted images, the best contrast effect of tumor was achieved two hours after intravenous injection of antiPD-L1-SPIOs@PLGA@Au. The tumor control caused by irradiation combined with antiPD-L1-SPIOs@PLGA@Au was better than that by radiotherapy alone in clone formation assay and B16F10 subcutaneous tumor model.

Ferroptosis is a newly identified form of regulated cell death that is driven by iron overload and uncontrolled lipid peroxidation, but the role of ferroptosis in cardiac microvascular dysfunction remains unclear. Isorhapontigenin (ISO) is an analog of resveratrol and possesses strong antioxidant capacity and cardiovascular-protective effects. Moreover, ISO has been shown to alleviate iron-induced oxidative damage and lipid peroxidation in mitochondria.

Resolvin D1 (RvD1) has been shown to provide effective protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury in multiple vital organs such as the heart, brain, kidney. However, the clinical translational potential of systemic administration of RvD1 in the treatment of ischemia-reperfusion injury is greatly limited due to biological instability and lack of targeting ability. Combining the natural inflammatory response and reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction after reperfusion injury, we developed a platelet-bionic, ROS-responsive RvD1 delivery platform.

Background: Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II) is an X-linked recessive lysosomal storage disorder caused by various variants in the IDS gene. It is known that genomic recombinants between IDS and its homologous pseudogene IDSP1 account for a small number of patients, for whom genetic diagnosis usually relies on restriction enzyme digestion at specific loci. Nevertheless, such approach cannot reveal the impact of rearrangements on IDS transcription, which is crucial for the interpretation of the pathogenicity of rearrangement variants.

Oxygen maintains the homeostasis of an organism in a delicate balance in different tissues and organs. Under hypoxic conditions, hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) are specific and dominant factors in the spatiotemporal regulation of oxygen homeostasis. As the most basic functional unit of the heart at the cellular level, the cardiomyocyte relies on oxygen and nutrients delivered by the microvasculature to keep the heart functioning properly.
