Introduction: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most malignant type of breast cancer, and its prognosis is still the worst. It is necessary to constantly explore the pathogenesis and effective therapeutic targets of TNBC. Formononetin is an active ingredient with anti-tumor effects that we screened earlier.

Background: Early assessment and management of cerebral edema and hematoma following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (a-SAH) can significantly impact clinical cognitive outcomes. However, current clinical practices lack predictive models to identify early structural brain abnormalities affecting cognition. To address this gap, the authors propose the development of a predictive model termed the a-SAH Early Brain Edema/Hematoma Compression Neural (Structural Brain) Networks Score System (SEBE-HCNNSS).

Background: Childhood asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the respiratory tract characterized by bronchial inflammation, airway hyperresponsiveness, airflow disorder, and obstruction. Secreted frizzled-related protein 5 (SFRP5) may be associated with respiratory inflammatory diseases. This study investigated the effect of SFRP5 on human airway smooth muscle cells (HASMCs) to provide new ideas for treating asthma.

Background And Objective: Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer with highly incidence and mortality. Due to the overlap of morphological features, it is difficult to distinguish clinically between preinvasive lesions (in situ adenocarcinoma, AIS) and invasive lesions (minimally invasive adenocarcinoma, MIA), which appear as ground glass cloudy nodules. This study was performed to probe the application value of artificial intelligence (AI)-based dual source CT scanning in the differentiation of AIS as well as MIA.

Practice guideline on ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation in the prevention and treatment of iatrogenic premature ovarian insufficiency.

Maturitas

April 2024

Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, Beijing, China; Department for Women's Health, University Women's Hospital and Research Center for Women's Health, University of Tuebingen, Tuebingen, Germany.

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) refers to the decline of ovarian function before the age of 40. POI causes a reduction in or loss of female fertility, accompanied by different degrees of menopausal symptoms, which increases the risk of chronic diseases related to early menopause and seriously affects patients' quality of life and health. It is conservatively estimated that at least one million prepubertal girls and women of reproductive age in China are at risk of iatrogenic POI caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy every year.

Long non-coding RNA ACTA2-AS1 suppresses metastasis of papillary thyroid cancer via regulation of miR-4428/KLF9 axis.

Clin Epigenetics

January 2024

Department of Thyroid Surgery, Shanghai Baoshan Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Baoshan Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Background: Metastasis is the primary cause of recurrence and death in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). LncRNA ACTA2-AS1, a long non-coding RNA, acts as a tumor suppressor in multiple types of human malignancies, while the role of ACTA2-AS1 in PTC metastasis remains unclear.

Methods: The ACTA2-AS1 expression in PTC tissues was analyzed.

Background: We all know that lymph-node metastasis is an important factor for poor clinical outcome in breast cancer prognosis. Tumor deposit refers to a discrete collection of cancer cells that is found in the lymph nodes or other tissues adjacent to the primary tumor site. These tumor deposits are separate from the primary tumor and are often considered as a manifestation of lymph node metastasis.

Background: The cellular and molecular dynamics of human prepuce are crucial for understanding its biological and physiological functions, as well as the prevention of related genital diseases. However, the cellular compositions and heterogeneity of human prepuce at single-cell resolution are still largely unknown. Here we systematically dissected the prepuce of children and adults based on the single-cell RNA-seq data of 90,770 qualified cells.

Rationale: Birt-Hogg-Dubé (BHD) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused mainly by mutations in the tumor suppressor FLCN gene. Tumors caused by FLCN mutations are frequently benign and develop in skin, lungs, kidney, and other organs, leading to a variety of phenotypes that make early diagnoses of BHD challenging.

Patient Concerns: A 51-year-old female was admitted to Shanghai Seventh People Hospital due to chest congestion and dyspnea that had persisted for 3 years and aggravated for 1 month.

Background: The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is closely related to a wide range of cellular functions and is a key component to maintain and restore metabolic health. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a serious threat to human health, but the ER stress (ERS)-related mechanisms in T2DM have not been fully elucidated.

Aim: To identify potential ERS-related mechanisms and crucial biomarkers in T2DM.

  • * The results indicate that combining Gusongbao preparation with conventional treatment significantly improves lumbar spine and femoral neck bone mineral density, reduces low back pain, and enhances overall clinical efficacy compared to conventional treatment alone.
  • * However, Gusongbao preparation performed worse than similar Chinese patent medicines in reducing syndrome scores, while the incidence of adverse reactions was generally comparable between Gusongbao and other treatments.

Though endometriosis is benign, however, it shares certain characteristics with cancers, such as the ability to invade and metastasize. Previous studies have demonstrated that S-phase kinase associated protein2 (SKP2) promotes invasion, tumorigenesis, and metastasis. However, its correlation with adenomyosis is unclear.
