Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of Xpert MTB/RIF assay in the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis for differentiating tuberculosis intrathoracic lymphadenopathy from sarcoidosis intrathoracic lymphadenopathy.
Methods: The patients who were suspected to having sarcoidosis or tuberculosis intrathoracic lymphadenopathy at the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital between October 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021 were retrospectively evaluated in this study. All patients underwent endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) and Xpert analysis.

Background: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is characterized by high morbidity, disability, mortality, recurrence, and economic burden. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the clinical efficacy of combining oral Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) with chemical drugs (CDs) is better than that of CDs alone. In this study, we performed a network meta-analysis (NMA) of RCTs to assess the efficacy of different CPMs in combination with CDs in the treatment of AIS.

Objective: Our previous studies revealed that normal synovial exosomes promoted chondrogenesis, and microRNA (miR)-19b-3p independently related to osteoarthritis (OA) risk. Subsequently, this study intended to further explore the effect of OA fibroblast-like synoviocyte (OA-FLS) exosomal miR-19b-3p on OA ferroptosis and its potential mechanisms.
Methods: Interleukin (IL)-1β-stimulated chondrocytes and medial meniscus surgery were used to construct the OA cellular model and the OA rat model, respectively.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are important immune cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME). The polar plasticity of TAMs makes them important targets for improving the immunosuppressive microenvironment of tumors. The previous study reveals that layered double hydroxides (LDHs) can effectively promote the polarization of TAMs from the anti-inflammatory M2 type to the pro-inflammatory M1 type.

Background: The discovery of a potent photosensitizer with desirable immunogenic cell death (ICD) ability can prominently enhance antitumor immunity in photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, majority of commercially-available photosensitizers suffer from serious aggregation and fail to elicit sufficient ICD. Pyroptosis as a newly identified pattern for potent ICD generation is rarely disclosed in reported photosensitizers.

Background And Purpose: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a clinically commonly-seen slow-progressing cerebral vascular disease. As a classic Chinese formula for the treatment of stroke, Daqinjiao Decoction (DQJD) is now used to treat CSVD with desirable effect. Since the mechanism of action is still unclear, this article will explore the therapeutic effect and mechanism of action of the formula using network pharmacology technology.

Persistent inflammation associated with recurrent urinary tract infection (rUTI) is a crucial inducement of inflammation-driven renal fibrosis (IDRF). Although continuous low-dose antibiotic therapy (CLAT) is the common treatment for rUTI, its clinical efficacy remains unsatisfactory. Tailin formulation (TLF), a Chinese herbal formulation prescribed for treating rUTI, is effective in alleviating symptoms and reducing recurrence.

In recent years, many reports focus on the hepatotoxicity of root extract (GSrE), but the interaction between GSrE and the gut microbiota is still unclear. This study investigated the mechanism of GSrE-induced hepatotoxicity of different doses and exposure durations by combining metabolomics and gut microbiota analysis. SD rats were divided into 3 groups: blank, low-dose (7.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a liver disorder characterized by abnormal accumulation of hepatic fat and inflammatory response with complex pathogenesis. Over activation of the pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome triggers the secretion of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, induces pyroptosis, and promotes the release of a large number of pro-inflammatory proteins. All of which contribute to the development of NAFLD.

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as the most common chronic liver disease, as well as a worldwide medical problem with a substantial socioeconomic burden. In China, Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) have been widely utilized as promising and effective therapy options for NAFLD. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a particular kind of medical science reliant on real-world clinical practices and evidence.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), an emerging global health problem affecting 25-30% of the total population, refers to excessive lipid accumulation in the liver accompanied by insulin resistance (IR) without significant alcohol intake. The increasing prevalence of NAFLD will lead to an increasing number of cirrhosis patients, as well as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) requiring liver transplantation, while the current treatments for NAFLD and its advanced diseases are suboptimal. Accordingly, it is necessary to find signaling pathways and targets related to the pathogenesis of NAFLD for the development of novel drugs.

Background: As a systemic inflammatory reaction, sepsis is associated with various organ dysfunctions. The capillary leakage and the imbalance between T helper 17 and regulatory T (Th17/Treg) cells are associated with sepsis-induced lung injury. Taxifolin (TXL) has been found to play a vital role in regulating this diverse disease.

Appropriately instructing and guiding patients before and after surgery is essential for their successful recovery. In recent years, however, the development of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol has restricted the opportunity for healthcare professionals to spend time with their patients before and after surgery because of efficiency-driven, shortened hospital stay. Here, we embedded health education information of the perioperative period for gastrointestinal surgery on a WeChat-based mobile platform and evaluated the platform through medical staff evaluation, patient volunteer evaluation, and quantitative grading rubric.

Intestinal mucositis is a common side effect of cancer chemotherapy and it limits the dose of chemotherapy given to a patient. Tripartite motif family (TRIM) proteins have been reported to be implicated in the regulation of cancer chemotherapy. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of TRIM9 on irinotecan‑induced intestinal mucositis in the rat intestinal epithelial cell line IEC‑6.

The tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) has been demonstrated to be the main cause of cancer immunotherapy failure in various malignant tumors, due to poor immunogenicity and existence of immunosuppressive factors. Thus, establishing effective treatments for hostile TIME remodeling has considerable potential to enhance immune response rates for durable tumor growth retardation. This study aims to develop a novel nanocomposite, polyethyleneimine-modified dendritic mesoporous silica nanoparticles loaded with microRNA-125a (DMSN-PEI@125a) to synergistically enhance immune response and immunosuppression reversion, ultimately generating a tumoricidal environment.

Inefficient differentiation and poor engraftment hinder the clinical applications of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based cell therapies in regenerative medicine. Layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles are sheet-like materials with desirable biocompatibility and anion-exchange properties and have been widely applied as drug and nucleotide carriers in the field of tissue repair. However, few studies have focused on the biological effects of LDH itself.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often coexists with multiple comorbidities which may have a significant impact on acute exacerbations of patients. At present, what kind of comorbidities affects acute exacerbations and how comorbidities lead to poor prognosis are still controversial. The purpose of our study is to determine the impact of comorbidities on COPD exacerbation and establish an acute exacerbation risk assessment system related to comorbidities.
