Research Question: Does the presence of smooth endoplasmic reticulum aggregates (SERa) in oocytes adversely impact the euploidy rate of subsequent blastocysts?
Design: We performed a retrospective cohort study with 671 young patients (< 38 years) undergoing their first preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) between January 2019 and October 2022 at a reproductive medical center of university affiliated teaching hospitals in China. Cycles were categorized as either SERa(+) cycles (containing at least one SERa(+) oocyte) or SERa(-) cycles (all oocytes without SERa). In SERa(+) cycles, oocytes were further subdivided into the SERa(+) oocyte group and the sibling SERa(-) oocyte group, comprising oocytes with normal morphology.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is an important adverse drug reaction that can lead to acute liver failure or even death in severe cases. Currently, the diagnosis of DILI still follows the strategy of exclusion. Therefore, a detailed history taking and a thorough and careful exclusion of other potential causes of liver injury is the key to correct diagnosis.

The cause of Posner-Schlossman syndrome (PSS) remains unknown and its frequent recurrence may eventually lead to irreversible damage of the optic nerve. The influence of immune factors in the pathophysiology of PSS is gaining more and more interest. Increasing evidence suggests that gut dysbiosis plays vital roles in a variety of neurodegenerative and immune-related diseases.

Cuproptosis is a new manner of mitochondrial cell death induced by copper. There is evidence that serum copper has a crucial impact on ankylosing spondylitis (AS) by copper-induced inflammatory response. However, the molecular mechanisms of cuproptosis modulators in AS remain unknown.

Glaucoma is the major cause of irreversible blindness in the world characterized by progressive retinal neurodegeneration, in which local inflammation in retina is involved in persistent loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). In order to explore whether aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and its agonists tryptophan metabolites are involved in the development of glaucoma, we collected serum and retinas from non-glaucoma controls and patients with glaucoma. Results showed altered serum tryptophan metabolism and reduced retinal AhR expression in glaucoma patients.

Introduction: In recent years, 3-dimensional (3D) printing has been widely used in regenerative medicine research and other fields because of its ability to customize macroscopic morphology and precisely control microstructure. Polymer scaffolds are 1 of the commonly used 3D bioprinting materials for defect repair and have recently been a research focus. Our article explored the bone-formation accelerating effect of 3D-printed porous scaffold Poly(glycerol sebacate) [PGS] in the critical bone defect of an enhancing rabbit mandibular model.

In patients with severe blepharoptosis, the function of the levator muscle is usually weak. Even if a large amount of levator is resected, under-correction and recurrence often occur postoperatively. Frontalis suspension is the first choice for severe ptosis; however, the external orbital lifting force of the frontalis causes non-physiological eyelid movement.

Background: Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is recognized as one of the most critical factors, but the loss of retinal ganglia cells (RGCs) often persists when IOP is controlled. Recently, a large number of studies focus on the inflammatory and immune responses in the occurrence and development of glaucoma.

The objective of this study is to assess the global, regional, and national burden of bipolar disorder (BPD) from 1990 to 2017, by gender, age, and social-demographic index (SDI) from the 2017 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. We collected detailed information from GBD on the numbers of incidence cases and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), and age-standardized DALYs rate (ASDR) during 1990-2017. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were calculated to assess ASIR and ASDR trends.
