MTFAP: a comprehensive platform for predicting and analyzing master transcription factors.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Medical Oncology, Qilu Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, 250012, Shandong, China.

Master transcription factors (MTFs) activate gene expression in pluripotent embryonic stem cells (ESCs) by binding to enhancers and super-enhancers, which precisely control ESC fate. Compelling evidence reveals a strong correlation between the operation of MTFs and the initiation and progression of cancer. Nevertheless, the challenge of identifying MTFs imposes a barrier for researchers.

The burden of N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (6PPD) and its oxidized products on human health can no longer be ignored due to the detection types and concentrations in the environment continue to increase. Environmental ozone (O) and ultraviolet A (UVA) may induce ozonation and photoaging of 6PPD to produce toxic products. However, the impact of specific environmental conditions on the aging and toxic effects of 6PPD is unclear.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the impact of a woman's previous cesarean delivery (CD) on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes for subsequent in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) and single frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET), compared with vaginal delivery (VD).

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study that included a total of 5817 patients who desired to transfer a single vitrified-thawed blastocyst from the same oocyte retrieval cycle as their last live birth between January 2011 and January 2021 at a single reproductive medicine center. Patients with a single previous CD were classified in the CD group, while those with a single VD were assigned to the VD group.

Wogonin suppresses proliferation, invasion and migration in gastric cancer cells via targeting the JAK-STAT3 pathway.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Dermatology, Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shandong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, The First Clinical Medical College of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jinan, 250011, China.

Wogonin is a compound extracted from the medicinal plant Scutellaria baicalensis Geogi and has been found to exert antitumor activities in a variety of malignancies. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in the anti-gastric cancer (GC) effects of wogonin remain poorly understood. In the present study, we found that wogonin treatment inhibited the proliferation of GC cells, induced apoptosis and G0/G1 cell arrest, and suppressed the migration and invasion of SGC-7901 and BGC-823 cells in vitro.

In order to delay the progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) in patients, and to prevent further teratogenesis and irreversible bone erosion through drug intervention in the early stages of inflammation, this experiment used the mRNA encoding heat shock protein 10 (HSP10) (H-mRNA) as the main therapeutic drug and used Microfluidics technology to prepare lipid nanoparticles (LNP) (H-mRNA LNPs) containing H-mRNA, and the surface of H-mRNA-LNPs was modified using heparin particals to obtain the final formulation H-mRNA-LNPs @ heparin/ Protamine. Through the sequence modification and effect evaluation of H-mRNA, we explored the formulation screening, physical characterization, cytotoxicity in vitro, distribution in vivo, pharmacodynamics in vivo, and safety in vivo of the prepared lipid nanoparticles, which proved that this nano-preparation had good anti Rheumatoid Arthritis effects, and conducted a preliminary exploration for the application of nucleic acid drugs in the treatment of diseases outside of tumors. This research would provide new ideas for the treatment of RA.

Unlabelled: Recently, there has been a debate regarding the association between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and pancreatic cancer (PC). In order to examine the causal relationship between PCOS and PC, we conducted a Mendelian randomization study, which utilized 12 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identified from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis that included 10,074 PCOS cases and 103,164 controls of European ancestry as instrumental variables (IVs). The outcome data were obtained from the FinnGen database (including 605 cases and 218,187 controls).

Department of Pharmacology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, 250012, P. R. China.

Defective clearance and accumulation of α-synuclein (α-Syn) is the key pathogenic factor in Parkinson's disease (PD). Recent studies emphasize the importance of E3 ligases in regulating the degradation of α-Syn. However, the molecular mechanisms by which deubiquitinases regulate α-Syn degradation are scarcely studied.

Prospects for potential therapy targeting immune‑associated factors in endometriosis (Review).

Mol Med Rep

March 2025

Key Laboratory for Experimental Teratology of Ministry of Education, Department of Histology and Embryology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong 250012, P.R. China.

Endometriosis (EM) is a chronic inflammatory disease that is one of the most common causes of gynecological systemic lesions in women before menopause. The most representative histological feature of EM is that the endometrium appears outside of the uterine cavity, often in the ovary. Although it is generally accepted that the epithelial and stromal cells of the ectopic endometrium are not malignant, they still have numerous similarities to malignant tumors, including considerable changes to the immune microenvironment (immune monitoring disorder), the creation of a specific hormone environment, high levels of oxidative stress, chronic inflammation and abnormal immune cell regulation.

Transformer neural networks based on multi-head self-attention are effective in several fields. To capture brain activity on electroencephalographic (EEG) signals and construct an effective pattern recognition model, this paper explores the multi-channel deep feature decoding method utilizing the self-attention mechanism. By integrating inter-channel features with intra-channel features, the self-attention mechanism generates a deep feature vector that encompasses information from all brain activities.

January 2025

Binzhou People's Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University/College of Medical Information and Artificial Intelligence, Shandong First Medical University and Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, Jinan, Shandong 250117, China.

Recent studies have confirmed that certain circRNAs encode proteins that are integral to various biological functions. In this study, we present CICADA, an algorithm specifically designed to assess the protein-coding potential and coding products of circRNAs at high throughput, which enables the identification of previously unknown circRNA-encoded proteins. By harnessing the potential of this algorithm, we identified a variety of functional, protein-coding circRNAs in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and established circRNA translation profiles for diverse types of cancer.
