TUSC3 was recently identified as a potential tumor suppressor gene in a variety of human malignancies. However, no data are currently available regarding the expressions of TUSC3 in esophageal cancer (ESCC).The purposes of this study was to investigated the expressions of TUSC3 in ESCC tissues and assess the relationship between TUSC3 levels and clinico-pathological characteristics of ESCC patients.

Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is one of the most important health concerns and may result in neuropathologic changes and neurologic sequelae. However, few studies have addressed the correlation between CO poisoning and blood-brain barrier (BBB) impairment. In this study, we investigated the effects of -butylphthalide (NBP) on the expressions of zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), claudin-5 and aquaporin-4 (AQP-4) proteins in a CO poisoning rat model.

Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by the infiltration of lymphocytes in exocrine glands, specifically the salivary and lacrimal glands, resulting in the typical symptoms of xerophthalmia and xerostomia. SS may be accompanied by pleural effusion when the lung is involved, but this occurrence has been reported in only 10 cases in the literature. We report the case of a 42 year-old woman with severe bilateral pleural effusion for eight years.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the influence on human hepatocytes apoptosis and autophagy by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) core protein.

Methods: QSG-7701, a human-derived non-neoplastic liver cell line, was transfected with PIRES-core vector that was a eukaryotic vector to express HCV core protein. Fluorescence microscope was used to observe the changes of nuclei in apoptosis cells by Annex in V-FITC/PI double staining.

In this study, we aim to investigate the effects of electroacupuncture on the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway in microglia. Male Wistar rat of SPF grade (weighing 200 ± 20 g) were randomly divided into (i): sham control group, which was subjected to sham operation (ii) vehicle group, which underwent the occlusion of middle cerebral artery; (iii-v): acupuncture groups, which were subjected to the occlusion of middle cerebral artery and treated with acupuncture on the Neiguan acupoint (P6), Quchi acupoint (LI11), and Diji acupoint (SP8), respectively. HE staining was performed to detect the necrotic rate of neurons.

Dysregulation of NEAT1 plays critical oncogenic roles and facilitates tumorigenesis on various human tumor entities. However, little information is available about the expression pattern of NEAT1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The contributions of this lncRNA to tumorigenesis and progression of ESCC aslo remains unclear.

Objective: This study is to investigate the immunostimulatory activities of dendritic cells (DCs) transfected with HBcAg and/or HBsAg recombinant adenovirus (rAd).

Methods: DCs were transfected with rAd (DC/Ad-C+Ad-S, DC/Ad-C, and DC/Ad-S), or pulsed with HBcAg antigen (DC/HBcAg). Flow cytometry was used to detect the phenotype of DCs and the cytokine production of T lymphocytes.

Purpose: To investigate the effects and mechanism of pollen typhae on spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats.

Methods: The SCI model was built and animals were randomly divided into three groups according to different concentrations of pollen typhae. Protein, mRNA, and fluorescence expression levels of light-chain-3 (LC-3) and Beclin-1 were determined by western blotting (WB), real-time PCR and immunofluorescence, along as Akt and mammalian target of rapamycin (mROT) by WB.

Objective: O(6)-methylguanine DNA methyl-transferase gene (MGMT) is a central DNA repair mechanism with a significant role in removing DNA damage caused by alkylating agents and inhibiting human oncogenesis. Two single polymorphisms in the MGMT gene, Leu84Phe and Ile143Val, have been reported to affect DNA repair capability and enzymic activity, thereby leading to formation of different cancers. In this work, we quantitatively assess the associations between MGMT polymorphisms and risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), as previous studies has implicated inconsistencies in their results.

Objective: This study is to investigate the hepatitis B virus (HBV)-induced tubular epithelial-myofibroblast transdifferentiation (TEMT) in human renal tubular epithelial HK-2 cells.

Methods: Human proximal tubular epithelial HK-2 cells were cultured. These HK-2 cells were divided into 4 groups: the blank control group, the vector control group, the HBV-transfected group, and the inhibitor-treated group.

Chronic inferior vena cava and iliac vein occlusion, caused by long-term of deep venous thrombosis, will lead to swelling of the limbs, venous claudication and intractable ulcer. However, conservative treatment is often ineffective for vein occlusion. With the development of interventional techniques, endovascular therapy has become the first choice for the treatment of vein occlusion with higher success rate and lower trauma.

Surgery stressors trigger inflammatory response and excessive inflammatory response leads to organ failure or even septic shock. HMGB1 as a later inflammatory cytokines and a critical mediator of severe sepsis is always associated with the aggravation of organ failure. Previous study shows that lidocaine can inhibit the expression of HMGB1 in macrophage of septic rats and protect animals from organ failure.

Background: To investigate neural-reproductive hormonal basis of liver yang rising (LYR), liver qi stagnation (LQS) premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and to develop standardized diagnostic criteria for PMS.

Methods: HPLC, HPLC-MC, ELISA and radioimmunoassay were used to compare levels of serum hormones, plasma neurotransmitters and neurosteroids between LYR PMS patients, LQS PMS patients and healthy controls (30 subjects in each group).

Results: Of the measures, all three groups exhibited no significant differences during the follicular phase.
