Article Synopsis
  • Neuroinflammation and mitochondrial function are vital for neuron health, and SS-31 is a peptide that helps reduce cell stress and inflammation in mitochondria.
  • Researchers synthesized 19 new derivatives of SS-31, finding that two specific peptides, 5f and 5g, significantly lower inflammatory markers and boost energy production in cells.
  • The study suggests that 5f and 5g have protective benefits for neurons and hold potential for treating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's linked to inflammation and mitochondrial issues.

Depression exists with high prevalence and heavy disease burden. Stress events play a key role in the occurrence of depression, but the pathological mechanism has not been fully clarified by reason of the complexity and heterogeneity. In recent years, neuroinflammation as a pathological mechanism of depression has received extensive attention.

Molecular mechanism of miRNA-23a in sepsis-induced lung injury.

Am J Transl Res

June 2023

Department of Pediatric, Qilu Hospital (Qingdao), Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University Qingdao 266035, Shandong, China.

Objective: MicroRNA-23a-3p (miR-23a) is a novel gene regulator involved in inflammation. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of miR-23a in sepsis-induced lung injury both and .

Methods: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- and ATP-stimulated human myeloid leukemia mononuclear cells (THP-1) and Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells (BEAS-2B) cell lines were used, while cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced sepsis BABL/c mice were constructed.

Objectives: We retrospectively described and analyzed clinical risk factors for in-hospital death due to cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT).

Methods: A total of 172 CVT patients were seen over a 10-year period at three medical centers in China. Demographic and clinical characteristics, neuroimaging, treatment, and outcome data were collected and analyzed.

The clinical manifestations, types of infectious pathogens, and drug-resistant strains of sepsis in infants with very low birth weight (VLBWIs) vary greatly in different regions and hospitals. In order to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment, this study analyzed the distribution and drug resistance of the pathogenic bacteria of sepsis in VLBWIs in our hospital. A total of 69 cases of VLBWIs in Qilu Hospital (Qingdao), Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University from January 01, 2014 to December 31, 2020 were included.

MiR-139-5p protect against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury by targeting autophagy-related 4D and inhibiting AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 pathway.

Int J Clin Exp Pathol

September 2017

Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Function Research, Chinese Ministry of Education and Chinese Ministry of Health, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University Jinan 250012, Shandong, China.

This study aimed at investigating the effect and underlying mechanism of miR-139-5p in myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury. A hypoxia/ reoxygenation (H/R) model was established in H9c2 cardiomyocytes. The level of miR-139-5p was detected in H/R-treated cardiomyocytes, and subsequently, the level of miR-139-5p or its target gene autophagy-related 4D (ATG4D) was up- or downregulated.
