The pharmaceutical industry is increasingly drawn to the research of innovative drug delivery systems through the use of supercritical CO (scCO)-based techniques. Measuring the solubility of drugs in scCO at varying conditions is a crucial parameter in this context. In this research, the supercritical solubility of two pharmaceutical ingredients, namely Febuxostat and Chlorpromazine, has been assessed theoretically using various thermodynamic approaches, including PR, SRK, UNIQUAC, and Wilson models.

Objective: This study is aimed at investigating the correlation between lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) severity, ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, and the upregulation of inflammatory markers.

Methods: From March 2019 and May 2022, eighty-five inpatients with LSS were enlisted as the study's research group, while sixty-five patients hospitalized for lumbar intervertebral disc herniation over the same time period served as the study's control group. Moreover, mild, moderate, and severe subgroups of patients were created within the research population based on their LSS severity.

Purpose: Aim of this study was to identify biomarkers between different grades of bladder cancer (BLCA) and its prognostic value.

Methods: mRNA expression data from GSE32549 and GSE71576 were extracted for further analysis. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using GEO2R web tool.

The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a critical role in cancer progression, metastasis and drug resistance. The transcription factor(TF) and microRNA (miR) chimeric [SNAIL/miR-34]:[ZEB/miR-200] unit is the core regulatory system for the EMT process. Here, we proposed to assess the anti-EMT abilities and explore the inherent pharmacological mechanisms of the classic hypoglycaemic agent metformin for colorectal cancer(CRC).

Background: In chronic kidney disease (CKD), endothelin-1 (ET-1) always increases and there are changes in cardiac ultrasonography. In the present study, we aimed at investigating the role of serum ET-1 in predicting cardiac complications in patients with CKD.

Methods: The level of serum ET-1 was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and cardiac ultrasonography was performed in enrolled patients.

Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is a lymphoproliferative disease arising in the lymphoid tissue, which is characterized by Reed-Sternberg cells. Adenocarcinoma is the most frequent pathological type of stomach cancer. Improved survival in HL patients leads to the development of secondary malignancies.

Epstein-Barr (EB) virus infection has long been speculated to evoke systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Since a virus infection can induce interferon (IFN) system activation, we aimed to discover the relationship between the two in the progression of SLE in a Chinese inpatient cohort. Methods Peripheral blood mononuclear cells and sera were isolated from 116 SLE patients and 76 healthy controls.

Pioglitazone ameliorates retinal ischemia/reperfusion injury suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activities.

Int J Ophthalmol

December 2017

Department of Ophthalmology, Renji Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200127, China.

Aim: To explore the role of Pioglitazone (Pio) on a mouse model of retinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and to elucidate the potential mechanism.

Methods: Retinal ischemia was induced in mice by increasing the intraocular pressure, and Pio was administered 4h though periocular injection before I/R. The number of cells in the ganglion cell layer (GCL) was counted 7d after retinal I/R injury.

Objectives: We aimed to explore the association between metformin treatment and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenotype and further appraise the prognostic values of metformin and EMT markers E-cadherin and vimentin for colorectal cancer (CRC) in clinical practice.

Methods: We collected specimens and evaluated clinicopathological parameters of 102 stage I to III CRC patients with prediagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM II). Expression of E-cadherin and vimentin in tumors was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC), and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 19.
