Background: Previous studies have shown that podocyte autophagy is an important trigger for proteinuria and glomerulosclerosis. The mammalian rapamycin target protein (mTOR) occupies a pivotal position in the autophagy pathway. In this study, we planned to clarify the mechanism of mTOR regulation of podocyte autophagy and the effect of rapamycin (RAPA).

There is increasing evidence that serum adipokine levels are associated with higher risks of cardiovascular diseases. As an important adipokine, fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) has been demonstrated to be associated with atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease (CAD). However, circulating level of FGF21 in patients with angina pectoris has not yet been investigated.

Programmed cell death 4 (PDCD4) has been recognized as a novel tumor suppressor gene, which inhibits the activation and translation of activator protein (AP)-1. Dysregulated expression of PDCD4 is also involved in various human tumors and is linked to tumor progression and development. However, the function and clinical implication of PDCD4 in giant cell tumors of the bone (GCTBs) has not been previously investigated.

High glucose affects primary afferent neurons in dorsal root ganglia by inhibiting neurite elongation, causing oxidative stress, and inducing neuronal apoptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction, which finally result in neuronal damage. Proanthocyanidin, a potent antioxidant, has been shown to have neuroprotective effects. Proanthocyanidin B2 is a common dimer of oligomeric proanthocyanidins.

Vascular disease can manifest as stenotic plaques or ectatic aneurysms. Human abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) comprise an inflammatory disease characterized by the predominance of T helper type 2 (Th2) cytokine expression. Leptin has been clearly demonstrated to play an important role in regulating Th0 cell to Th1.

Background Diabetic neuropathic pain is poorly controlled by analgesics, and the precise molecular mechanisms underlying hyperalgesia remain unclear. The KCNQ2/3/5 channels expressed in dorsal root ganglion neurons are important in pain transmission. The expression and activity of KCNQ2/3/5 channels in dorsal root ganglion neurons in rats with diabetic neuropathic pain were investigated in this study.

The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a critical role in cancer progression, metastasis and drug resistance. The transcription factor(TF) and microRNA (miR) chimeric [SNAIL/miR-34]:[ZEB/miR-200] unit is the core regulatory system for the EMT process. Here, we proposed to assess the anti-EMT abilities and explore the inherent pharmacological mechanisms of the classic hypoglycaemic agent metformin for colorectal cancer(CRC).

Cardiac ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury results mainly from mitochondrial dysfunction and cardiomyocyte death. Mitophagy sustains mitochondrial function and exerts a pro-survival effect on the reperfused heart tissue. Mammalian STE20-like kinase 1 (Mst1) regulates chronic cardiac metabolic damage and autophagic activity, but its role in acute cardiac I/R injury, especially its effect on mitophagy, is unknown.

Cyclic GMP (cGMP) is an important intracellular regulator of endochondral bone growth and skeletal remodeling. Tadalafil, an inhibitor of the phosphodiesterase (PDE) type 5 (PDE5) that specifically hydrolyzes cGMP, is increasingly used to treat children with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but the effect of tadalafil on bone growth and strength has not been previously investigated. In this study, we first analyzed the expression of transcripts encoding PDEs in primary cultures of chondrocytes from newborn rat epiphyses.

As the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes, diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) imposes enormous burden on individuals and public health. Therapeutic regimes for DCM treatment have proven to be challenging, with limited efficacy, low compliance, and potential adverse effects. Curcumin, as the most active compound derived from the root of turmeric, exhibits strong anti-inflammation, antioxidant, and anti-apoptosis properties.

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head is an orthopedic disease caused by femoral head damage or insufficient blood supply, which leads to the death of bone cells and bone marrow. Osteonecrosis of the femoral head leads to changes in the structure of the femoral head, femoral head collapse and joint dysfunction. Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) exhibits beneficial effects on bone formation, repair and angiogenesis at the femoral head.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the efficacy of a split-dose 4-L polyethylene glycol (PEG) regimen for the quality of bowel preparation in Asian patients with previous colorectal surgery for colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: This was a prospective, single-center, randomized controlled, endoscopist-blinded study. Patients with previous colorectal surgery for CRC were randomly allocated to a routine, morning-only 2-L PEG (2-MO) group or a split-dose 4-L PEG (4-SD) group.

We previously reported that l-Cysteine, an HS donor, significantly alleviated brain injury after hypoxia-ischemic (HI) injury in neonatal mice. However, the mechanisms underlying this neuroprotective effect of l-Cysteine against HI insult remain unknown. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that the protective effects of l-Cysteine are associated with glial responses and autophagy, and l-Cysteine attenuates synaptic injury as well as behavioral deficits resulting from HI.

In addition, ADAMTS-12 is reported to be required for inflammation in otherwise healthy subjects. This study was undertaken to determine the role of ADAMTS-12 and the underlying mechanisms in the pathogenesis of inflammatory arthritis.

Intraductal carcinoma of the prostate (IDC-P) is a malignant, clonal proliferation of cells growing within the basement membrane-bound structures of the prostate. IDC-P is usually associated with unfavorable clinicopathologic parameters such as large tumor volume, high-grade Gleason score, extra prostatic extension and seminal vesicle invasion. Majority of laboratory and patient data suggest that IDC-P represents intraductal spread of invasive carcinoma, rather than a precursor lesion.

Tripartite motif-containing protein 31 (TRIM31), an E3 ubiquitin ligase of the tripartite motif family, plays an important role in the innate immune response. It can reduce the activity of the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor (NLR) family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome. However, little information is about glucose metabolic health of TRIM31-deficient mice, and investigations about gut microbiota in TRIM31-deficient mice is limited.

Breast cancer (BC) is among the most common malignant diseases and metastasis is the handcuff of treatment. Cancer metastasis is a multistep process associated with the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) program. Several studies have demonstrated that transcriptional repressor GATA binding 1 (TRPS1) played important roles in development and progression of primary BC.
