Our previous study revealed that Homeobox containing 1 (HMBOX1), essential for the survival of vascular endothelial cells (VECs), was involved in the progression of atherosclerosis. Knockdown of HMBOX1 promoted apoptosis and inhibited autophagy through regulating intracellular free zinc level in cultured VECs. In current study, in order to investigate the roles of HMBOX1 in vivo and in endothelium, we generated a knockout (KO) mouse for HMBOX1 by using transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs) technology.

Although MYC proto-oncogene (C-MYC) amplification has been consistently reported to be a potential marker for prostate cancer (PCa) progression and prognosis, the clinicopathological and prognostic significance of C-MYC protein expression remains controversial. Overexpression of SOX4 has been shown to play important roles in multiple cancers including PCa. However, the link between these two critical genetic aberrations is unclear.

Breath analysis is used to detect the composition of exhaled gas. As a quick and non-invasive detection method, breath analysis provides deep insights into the progression of various kinds of diseases, especially those with metabolism disorders. Abundant information on volatile compounds in diabetic patients has been studied in numerous articles in the literature.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and ROS-induced oxidative stress are associated with prostate cancer (PCa) development and castrate-resistant tumor progression. This is in part through the activation of the androgen receptor (AR) signaling. However, the molecular underpinning of ROS to activate AR remains poorly understood.

Apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells (VEC) is the main form of vascular injury that is closely linked to numerous cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is important to find new factors that can suppress VEC apoptosis. By using long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) microarray analysis, we found a new read-through lncRNA, MROH7-TTC4, which acted as an apoptosis inhibitor in VECs.

Syncytin 1 is considered as an oncogene in various malignant tumors, but its effect on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has not been reported. We investigated the specific role of Syncytin 1 on NSCLC through the transfection of Syncytin 1 knockdown or overexpression plamids in A549 cells. Our results proved that knockdown of Syncytin 1 inhibited the proliferation, and blocked the cell cycle on G1 phase by inhibiting the expression of Nusap1, Cyclin D1, CDK6, and CDK4.

Yes-associated protein (Yap) has been linked to several cardiovascular disorders, but the role of this protein in septic cardiomyocytes is not fully understood. The aim of our study was to explore the influence of Yap in septic cardiomyopathy and . In the current study, Yap transgenic mice and Yap adenovirus-mediated gain-of-function assays were used in an LPS-established septic cardiomyopathy model.

Reactive oxygen species play a vital role in cell survival by regulating physiological metabolism and signal transduction of cells. The imbalance of oxidant and antioxidant states induces oxidative stress within a cell. Redox regulation and oxidative stress are closely related to survival and proliferation of stem cells, cancer cells, and cancer stem cells.

Enhancer of zeste 2 polycomb repressive complex 2 subunit (EZH2) is the core component of polycomb repressive complex 2 and is overexpressed in several types of solid malignancies. It has been reported that EZH2 contributes to sorafenib resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its underlying molecular mechanisms remain unknown.

Although androgen-deprivation treatment (ADT) is the main treatment for advanced prostate cancer (PCa), it eventually fails. This failure invariably leads to castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and the development of the neuroendocrine (NE) phenotype. The molecular basis for PCa progression remains unclear.

Preptin is a peptide synthesized and secreted accompanied with insulin from pancreatic β cells. Here, we tested the hypothesis that serum preptin concentrations are correlated with diabetic nephropathy (DN). Our study was performed in a population of 234 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and 78 healthy subjects.

Background: Surgical treatment of giant hepatic hemangioma larger than 10 cm in diameter often requires major laparoscopic liver resection (LLR), which is very difficult and has a high risk of bleeding. There is no consensus as to whether giant hepatic hemangioma is an indication or a contraindication for laparoscopic surgery.
Methods: From 2011/09 to 2018/05, 58 patients with giant hepatic hemangioma larger than 10 cm underwent laparoscopic surgery.

Vascular endothelial cells (VECs) that form the inner wall of blood vessels can be injured by high glucose-induced autophagy and apoptosis. Although the role of long noncoding RNA in regulating cell fate has received widespread attention, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that can both regulate autophagy and apoptosis need to be discovered. In this study, we identified that a small chemical molecule, 3-benzyl-5-([2-nitrophenoxy] methyl)-dihydrofuran-2(3H)-one (3BDO), synthesized by us, could inhibit VEC autophagy and apoptosis induced by a high concentration of glucose.

Atherosclerosis is predicted to be the primary cause of death in the world by 2020. Changes in atherosclerotic plaque composition will lead to acute coronary syndromes. Although the studies on the molecular mechanisms of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) are in-depth in molecular and cell levels, the in vivo research which studied the knowledge about lncRNAs in the regulation of plaque composition is still sparse.
