Cullin 4B (Cul4B), a scaffold protein that assembles the ubiquitin ligase complex, is involved in a wide variety of physiological and developmental processes, such as cell cycle progression, DNA damage response and gene expression regulation. Cul4B is overexpressed in various solid tumors. However, the prognostic value and role of Cul4B in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is largely unknown.

The clinical significance of tumor markers after radical gastrectomy has not been well characterized. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prognostic value of early postoperative tumor marker normalization in N3 stage gastric cancer (GC) patients. A total of 259 N3 stage GC patients with preoperatively elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA, >5 ng/mL) or carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9, >37 U/mL) levels underwent radical gastrectomy were analyzed retrospectively.

To establish to paraquat poisoning acute lung injury animal model to study the therapeutic effect of Salvia polyphenols acid salt of paraquat-induced acute lung injury. Adult male Wister rats 120, were randomly divided into three groups: the paraquat exposure group, the start of the experiment to give a one-time 20% paraquat dope orally 50 mg/kg body weight of rats; salvianolate treatment group, the start of the experiment paraquat to give a one-time 20% the stock solution orally 50 mg/kg body weight of rats, and then given daily intraperitoneal injection of 200 mg/kg body weight of rats salvianolate; blank control group was given the same amount normal saline. The exposure group, the treatment group and control group rats were sacrificed after anesthesia in the 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st day from the beginning of the experiment respectively, and taken out and preserved venous blood specimens and lung tissue to be tested.

Background: There is a high demand for noninvasive screening tools for gastrointestinal cancer (GIC) detection, and GIC-specific markers are required for such purposes. It is established that induction of the telomerase reverse transcriptase gene () coupled with telomerase activation is essential for cancer development/progression and aberrant promoter methylation of specific 5'-C-phosphate-G-3' (CpGs) has been linked to induction in oncogenesis. Here we analyzed promoter methylation in fecal samples from GIC patients and healthy adults and determined its value as a stool biomarker for GIC detection.

Objectives: We aimed to explore the association between metformin treatment and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenotype and further appraise the prognostic values of metformin and EMT markers E-cadherin and vimentin for colorectal cancer (CRC) in clinical practice.
Methods: We collected specimens and evaluated clinicopathological parameters of 102 stage I to III CRC patients with prediagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM II). Expression of E-cadherin and vimentin in tumors was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC), and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 19.

Accumulating evidences have shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) are vital regulators and possess huge capabilities in post-transcriptional control. Although a large number of miRNAs have been identified to be dysregulated in human cancers especially in colon cancer, our understandings of the function of most miRNAs are still largely limited. In this study, we have demonstrated that miR-299-3p plays a critical role in suppressing colon carcinoma progression by targeting Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGFA).

Chronic pain remains a challenging clinical reality, yet currently available analgesics are insufficient to meet clinical needs. Increasing attention has been paid to bioactive compounds from natural plants, which may be efficacious against pain. This study examined the antinociceptive effects of isosakuranetin, a plant-derived transient receptor potential melastatin 3 blocker, in a rat model of peripheral neuropathy.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has more than 2,000 years of history and has gained widespread clinical applications. However, the explicit role of TCM in preventing and treating cardiovascular disease remains unclear due to a lack of sound scientific evidence. Currently available randomized controlled trials on TCM are flawed, with small sample sizes and diverse outcomes, making it difficult to draw definite conclusions about the actual benefits and harms of TCM.

Restoring the contractile function of long-term denervated skeletal muscle (SKM) cells is difficult due to the long period of denervation, which causes a loss of contractility. Although sensory innervation is considered a promising protective approach, its effect is still restricted. In this study, we introduced insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) as an efficient protective agent and observed that IGF-1 potentiated the effects of sensory protection by preventing denervated muscle atrophy and improving the condition of denervated muscle cells in vivo and in vitro.

Upregulation of the pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) is involved in the development and progression of numerous neurological disorders. Recent reports have challenged the concept that TNF-α exhibits only deleterious effects of pro-inflammatory destruction, and have raised the awareness that it may play a beneficial role in neuronal growth and function in particular conditions, which prompts us to further investigate the role of this cytokine. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a cytokine possessing powerful neuroprotective effects in promoting neuronal survival, neuronal differentiation, neurite elongation, and neurite regeneration.

Cullin 4B (CUL4B), a scaffold protein that assembles CRL4B ubiquitin ligase complexes, is overexpressed in many types of cancers and represses many tumor suppressors through epigenetic mechanisms. However, the mechanisms by which CUL4B is upregulated remain to be elucidated. Here, we show that CUL4B is upregulated in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) tissues and is critically required for cell proliferation and migration in vitro and for xenograft tumor formation in vivo.

Colonoscopy remains the mainstay in diagnosing and monitoring colorectal cancer and other colorectal lesions. The diagnostic efficiency of colonoscopy greatly depends on the quality of bowel preparation, which is closely associated with the patient's compliance with the preparation instructions. In addition, the procedural requirements of bowel preparation are often complex and difficult for patients to comprehend and memorize, especially those with lower health literacy and motivation.
