Interfacial engineering-induced electronic state modulation in Ru/MoS heterostructures for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction.

Chem Commun (Camb)

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Functional Membrane Material and Membrane Technology, Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 189 Songling Road, Qingdao, 266101, China.

In traditional binary heterojunction catalysts, mismatched energy band structures lead to higher electron transfer barriers. By reducing the work function difference a ternary Ru-RuS/MoS heterostructure, we developed a HER catalyst with remarkable activity (17 mV@10 mA cm) and excellent stability (300 h@500 mA cm).

Regulation of pattern recognition receptor signaling by palmitoylation.

iScience

February 2025

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Immunity and Metabolism, Department of Pathogenic Biology and Immunology, Xuzhou Medical University, Xuzhou, Jiangsu, China.

Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), consisting of Toll-like receptors, RIG-I-like receptors, cytosolic DNA sensors, and NOD-like receptors, sense exogenous pathogenic molecules and endogenous damage signals to maintain physiological homeostasis. Upon activation, PRRs stimulate the sensitization of nuclear factor κB, mitogen-activated protein kinase, TANK-binding kinase 1-interferon (IFN) regulatory factor, and inflammasome signaling pathways to produce inflammatory factors and IFNs to activate Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling pathways, resulting in anti-infection, antitumor, and other specific immune responses. Palmitoylation is a crucial type of post-translational modification that reversibly alters the localization, stability, and biological activity of target molecules.

Surface immobilization of single atoms on heteroatom-doped carbon nanospheres through phenolic-mediated interfacial anchoring for highly efficient biocatalysis.

Chem Sci

BMI Center for Biomass Materials and Nanointerfaces, National Engineering Laboratory for Clean Technology of Leather Manufacture, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Leather Chemistry and Engineering, College of Biomass Science and Engineering, Sichuan University Chengdu Sichuan 610065 China

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) dispersed on support materials exhibit exceptional catalytic properties that can be fine-tuned through interactions between the single atoms and the support. However, selectively controlling the spatial location of single metal atoms while simultaneously harmonizing their coordination environment remains a significant challenge. Here, we present a phenolic-mediated interfacial anchoring (PIA) strategy to prepare SACs with Fe single atoms anchored on the surface of heteroatom-doped carbon nanospheres.

Objectives: To explore the acute intervention effects of tissue flossing on chronic knee pain (CKP) in boxers.

Methods: Eighteen boxers with CKP (12 male/6 female) were randomly divided into an experimental group (EG) with tissue flossing (n = 9) and a control group (CG) (n = 9). The visual analog scale (VAS), Lysholm knee function score, flexion range of motion (ROM), maximal isometric extensor muscle strength, and stability of the knee were measured pre- and post-intervention (EG: 3-minute tissue flossing, CG: rest).

Background: The nomogram is a powerful and robust tool in disease risk prediction that summarizes complex variables into a visual model that is interpretable with a quantified risk probability. In the current study, a nomogram was developed to predict the occurrence of coronary artery lesions (CALs) among patients with Kawasaki disease (KD). This is especially valuable in the early identification of the risk of CALs, which will lead to proper diagnosis and treatment to reduce their associated complications.

Introduction: Fatty liver disease is potentially linked to chronic kidney disease (CKD), yet the association between the Framingham Steatosis Index (FSI) and CKD remains uncharted. Our study thoroughly investigated the correlation between FSI and CKD, aiming to elucidate the underlying links between these two conditions.

Methods: The relationship between FSI and CKD was evaluated using a weighted multivariate logistic regression model, and the curvilinear relationship between FSI and CKD was explored through smooth curve fitting.

Wasabi is a type of sauce made from the plant horseradish. During its production and storage, gas production sometimes occurs, which leads to changes in the flavor quality of wasabi. In this study, an electronic nose, electronic tongue, headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry combined with multivariate statistical analysis were used to compare the differences in odor, taste and volatile components between normal and gas-producing wasabi.

SN2-Reaction-Driven Bonding-Heterointerface Strengthens Buried Adhesion and Orientation for Advanced Perovskite Solar Cells.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

Shandong University of Science and Technology, Institute of Carbon Neutrality, College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, No 579 Qianwangang Road, Huangdao District, 266590, Qingdao, CHINA.

Traditionally weak buried interaction without customized chemical bonding always goes against the formation of high-quality perovskite film that highly determines the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells. To address this issue, herein, we propose a bimolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction (SN2) driving strategy to idealize the robust buried interface by simultaneously decorating underlying substrate and functionalizing [PbX6]4- octahedral framework with iodoacetamide and thiol molecules, respectively. Theoretical and experimental results demonstrate that a strong SN2 reaction between exposed halogen and thiol group in two molecules occurs, which not only benefits the reinforcement of buried adhesion, but also triggers target-point-oriented crystallization, synergistically upgrading the upper perovskite film quality and accelerating interfacial charge extraction-transfer behavior.

J Cardiothorac Surg

January 2025

Department of Cardiac Surgery, Children's Hospital Affiliated Shandong University Jinan Children's Hospital, No. 23976, Jingshi Road, Huaiyin District, Jinan City, Shandong Province, China.

Intrapericardial teratoma is a rare tumor that usually presents in neonates or during infancy because of the associated high degree of pericardial effusion, cardiac compression and severe respiratory distress. In this paper, we report a rare case of intrapericardial teratoma that was incidentally discovered in an infant with superior vena cava obstruction following pericardial effusion absorption. Echocardiography and thoracic computed tomography angiography revealed that the intrapericardial mass obviously suppressed the superior vena cava.
