A complex regulatory network governs fruit ripening, but natural variations and functional differentiation of fruit ripening genes remain largely unknown. Utilizing a genome-wide association study (GWAS), we identified the NAC family transcription factor MdNAC18.1, whose expression is closely associated with fruit ripening in apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.

X-ray detection materials and devices have received widespread attention due to their irreplaceable role in the medical, industrial, and military fields. In this paper, BaTeWO (BTW) crystal containing lone pairs of electrons with large atomic numbers and high density is reported as a new type of oxide crystal X-ray detection material. The anisotropic X-ray detection performance of the BTW single crystal (SC) is systematically studied.

A BCA -coordinated MOF (1) was initially discovered to exhibit electron transfer photochromism. Remarkably, the photogenerated radicals (1P) showed a maximum absorption enhancement peak at 1158 nm, resulting from the synergistic effects of planar π-conjugation induced by -coordination and π-π interactions among [BCA]˙˙ radicals, thereby promoting the NIR-II photothermal effect.

Quinoa, rich in pharmacologically active ingredients, possesses the potential benefit in preventing cognitive impairments induced by hypoxia. In this study, the efficacy of quinoa ethanol extracts (QEE) consumption (200 and 500 mg/kg/d, respectively) against hypobaric hypoxia (HH)-induced cognitive deficits in mice was investigated. QEE significantly ameliorated hypoxic stress induced by HH, as evidenced by improvements in baseline indices and reductions in hypoxia-inducible factor 1α levels.

In this study, a sensitive diagnosis and spontaneously photocatalytic therapy of cancer based on chemiluminescence (CL) and nanozyme was studied. Briefly, carbon nitride-supported copper nanoparticles (CuCNs) loaded with luminol (CuCN-L) were utilized to develop a microneedle patch (CuCN-L/MN). The CuCN-L probe could target overexpressed HO in the TME and actively emit CL to achieve cancer cell imaging for diagnosis.

Objective: The objective was to evaluate the longitudinal patterns of central and general obesity, identify their genetic and behavioral risk determinants, and investigate the association of distinct obesity trajectories beyond middle age with subsequent cognitive decline and the risk of developing dementia in late life.
Methods: Using a nationally representative, longitudinal, community-based cohort, we examined trajectory patterns of obesity over a 14-year span beyond middle age employing latent mixture modeling. We then evaluated their relationship with subsequent cognitive decline through linear mixed models and with the risk of developing dementia using Cox models, adjusting for confounding variables.

Multi-step Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) plays a vital role in photosynthesis. While the energy transfer efficiency (Φ) of a naturally occurring system can reach 95%, that of most artificial light-harvesting systems (ALHSs) is still limited. Herein, we propose a strategy to construct highly efficient ALHSs using a blue-emitting, supercooled ionic compound of naphthalimide (NPI) as the donor, a green-emitting BODIPY derivate as a relay acceptor, and a commercially available, red-emitting dye [rhodamine B (RhB)] as the final acceptor.

The controllable synthesis of monodisperse mesoporous silica microspheres with unique physicochemical properties is becoming increasingly important for a variety of applications such as catalysts, chromatography, drug delivery and sensors. Here, we report a facile microfluidic-assisted sol-gel method for the preparation of silica microspheres with precisely controlled properties such as the size of the microspheres, the surface morphology, porosity and stiffness. All these properties can be manipulated by changing specific synthesis parameters, such as changing the microfluidic channels to tune the size of the microdroplets (tens to hundreds of microns), changing the contents of the precursor solution to manipulate the surface morphology (wrinkled to smooth surface) and changing the gelation/annealing conditions to tune the porosity (surface area up to 1021 m g) and stiffness of the microspheres (elastic modulus tunable from 0.

Introduction: African swine fever is a highly transmissible and lethal infectious disease caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV), which has considerably impacted the global swine industry. Lipid metabolism plays a vital role in sustaining lipid and energy homeostasis within cells and influences the viral life cycle.
Methods And Results: In this study, we found that ASFV infection disrupts lipid metabolism in the host.

Colorectal cancer usually metastasizes through lymphatic, blood, and intraperitoneal implantation. However, rectal cancer combined with perineal invasion after treated with chemotherapy is very rare. The present case study is of a 53-year-old male patient with a history of rectal cancer who developed a recto-perineal fistula with redness, swelling, and pain in the scrotum after repeated chemotherapy.

Background: Basic leucine zipper ATF-like transcription factor (BATF) is a nuclear basic leucine zipper protein affiliated with the AP-1/ATF superfamily. Previous research has confirmed that BATF expression plays a significant role in the tumour microenvironment. However, the associations between BATF expression and prognoses in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) patients and their immunological effects remain unclear.

The ocular surface ectoderm (OSE) is essential for the development of the ocular surface, yet the molecular mechanisms driving its differentiation are not fully understood. In this study, we used single-cell transcriptomic analysis to explore the dynamic cellular trajectories and regulatory networks during the differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) into the OSE lineage. We identified nine distinct cell subpopulations undergoing differentiation along three main developmental branches: neural crest, neuroectodermal, and surface ectodermal lineages.

Background: Vocal therapy, such as singing training, is an increasingly popular pulmonary rehabilitation program that has improved respiratory muscle status in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, variations in singing treatment protocols have led to inconsistent clinical outcomes.
Objective: This study aims to explore the content of vocalization training for patients with COPD by observing differences in respiratory muscle activation across different vocalization tasks.

Skin serves as the first-order protective barrier against the environment and any significant disruptions in skin integrity must be promptly restored. Despite significant advances in therapeutic strategies, effective management of large chronic skin wounds remains a clinical challenge. Dermal fibroblasts are the primary cell type responsible for remodeling the extracellular matrix (ECM) in wound healing.

Dyslipidemia affects approximately half of all people with gout, and prior Mendelian randomization analysis suggested a causal role for elevated triglycerides in hyperuricemia (HU), but the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. We hypothesize that dyslipidemia promotes hepatic urate biosynthesis in HU and gout and fatty acid (FA) oxidation (FAO) drives this process. Here we developed a targeted metabolomics to quantify major metabolites in purine metabolic pathway in the sera of a human cohort with HU, gout, and normaluricemic controls.
