Background: Evidence has emerged that the inflammation and immune mechanisms are involved in the relationship between hypertension (HTN) and cognitive impairment. We sought (1) to examine the combined effects of HTN and CD33, an immune-related and robust cognitive impairment susceptibility locus, with cognitive function in older adults and further (2) to explore the underlying mechanisms.
Method: This population-based study included 4444 dementia-free participants (age ≥65 years) in MIND-China; of these, data on gray matter volume were available in 1047 persons and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in 85 persons.

Background: Notch signaling, a conserved mechanism of cell-to-cell communication, plays a crucial role in regulating cellular processes such as proliferation and differentiation in a context-dependent manner. However, the specific contribution of Notch signaling to the progression of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) remains unclear.
Methods: We investigated the changes in Notch signaling activity (Notch1-4) in the kidneys of autosomal dominant PKD (ADPKD) patients and two ADPKD mouse models (early and late onset).

This study aimed to comprehensively examine the association of gallstones, cholecystectomy, and cancer risk. Multivariable logistic regressions were performed to estimate the observational associations of gallstones and cholecystectomy with cancer risk, using data from a nationwide cohort involving 239 799 participants. General and gender-specific two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was further conducted to assess the causalities of the observed associations.

Purpose: Emerging literature links the role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) to the progression of cancers. However, the function of RAAS has not been verified in Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
Methods: ACE expression in ccRCC tissues was determined using RT-PCR, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry staining.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common disease in aging joints and has characteristics of cartilage destruction and inflammation. It is currently considered a metabolic disease, and the CH25H-CYP7B1-RORα axis of cholesterol metabolism in chondrocytes plays a crucial catabolic regulatory role in its pathogenesis. Targeting of this axis in chondrocytes may provide a therapeutic approach for OA treatment.

Objectives: To assess the effects of unilateral versus bilateral antegrade cerebral perfusion (u-ACP vs b-ACP) on postoperative complications and mid-term follow-up results in Asian patients with acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) undergoing total arch replacement (TAR) + the frozen elephant trunk (FET).
Methods: Clinical baseline data and postoperative complications of 702 ATAAD patients undergoing TAR+ FET at China Cardiovascular Centre Fuwai Hospital between January 2019 and December 2022 were collected. Patients were categorized into two groups based on antegrade cerebral perfusion: unilateral (n = 402) and bilateral (n = 300).

Introduction: Humoral immunity plays a key role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, and B-lymphocyte activating factor (BAFF) and a proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) are essential for the maintenance of B-lymphocyte reservoirs and humoral immunity. In March 2021, telitacicept, the world's first dual target three-channel biologic, was approved in China for the treatment of SLE and is currently in clinical trials exploring multiple indications for other autoimmune diseases.
Areas Covered: This article summarizes the mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, and clinical efficacy of telitacicept for the treatment of multiple autoimmune diseases.

Microplastics (MPs) are pervasive pollutants present in various environments. They have the capability to infiltrate the human gastrointestinal tract through avenues like water and food, and ultimately accumulating within the liver. However, due to the absence of reliable platforms, the transportation, uptake, and damage of microplastics in the gut-liver axis remain unclear.

Nanoplastics (NPs) pollution is a global issue posing potential threats to human health, particularly the digestive system. NPs may exacerbate intestinal inflammation, increasing the risk of inflammatory bowel disease. However, the impact of intestinal peristalsis on NP-induced inflammation remains unknown.

Background: Liver metastasis impacts survival in patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs); however, current guidelines lack consensus on post-resection surveillance and adjuvant therapy. A comprehensive risk stratification tool is needed to guide personalized management.
Objective: We aimed to develop and validate a predictive model for liver metastasis risk after surgical resection of GEP-NETs that incorporates pathological factors and adjuvant therapy.

Background: The respiratory chain plays a key role in the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC). However, the exact regulatory mechanisms of this system still need to be elucidated, and only a few studies have investigated the impact of genetic mutations within the respiratory chain on MTBC transmission. This study aims to explore the impact of respiratory chain gene mutations on the global spread of MTBC.

Background: The modality of thoracoabdominal aortic repair (TAAR) is mainly based on left heart bypass (LHB) in western countries, while in our team, it is mainly based on a unique technique, normothermic iliac perfusion, and there is a lack of systematic reports and long-term results. To describe the operative technique and summarize the patient characteristics and outcomes of TAAR with normothermic iliac perfusion in our team in the last decade. Meanwhile, to explore the influence of different previous surgical history on prognosis.
