Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 160 HD patients at an HD centre of a 2030-bed tertiary teaching hospital in Southern India were randomly assigned into intervention ( = 80, received education and a booklet) and control ( = 80, received standard care) groups. Knowledge and adherence were measured preintervention and postintervention using a validated questionnaire for knowledge and the ESRD-AQ (End-Stage Renal Disease Questionnaire) for the level of adherence.

To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of CCTA + plain scan for ruptured plaques, with optical coherence tomography (OCT) as the reference, and to provide preliminary analysis of influential factors. Patients who underwent CCTA and OCT were retrospectively enrolled. With the aid of 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (bpee), a nitrogen-donor ligand and 1,3,5-tris(carboxymethoxy)benzene (HTCMB), a tripodal ether-connector tricarboxylate ligand, two novel transition metal coordination polymers (CPs) have been synthesized via the reaction of Zn(NO)·6HO or Cu(NO)·3HO with the ligands of HTCMB and bpee ligands with similar reactions under slightly distinct temperatures (80℃ for 1 and 120℃ for 2), and their chemical formula are [Cu(TCMB)(bpee)(µ-OH)(HO)]·12nHO (1) and [Zn(TCMB)(bpee)(µ-OH)(HO)]·12nHO (2). Complex 2 can be utilized as a super sensitive fluorescence quenching sensor to determine the Fe ions. The effect of these two compounds on the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into the cells of vascular endothelial was further explored.

A series of pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their activation activity toward adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK). According to the enzyme activity, the pyrazole N-H exposure and para substitution on the diphenyl group were proved to be essential for the activation potency. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of resveratrol on cell apoptosis, ability of telomerase and the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) protein expression in human A431 epidermoid carcinoma cells. In order to develop a practical classification of spontaneous intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH), a correlation was made between clinical and computed tomographic (CT) factors in 324 patients with IVH between September 1988 and December 1996. Spontaneous IVH was graded according to age, blood pressure, clinical conditions, conscious state on admission, primary site of bleeding, volume of intraparenchymal haematoma, degree of midline shift, degree of hydrocephalus and location of IVH, producing a score up to 20. A score of 0-5 was Grade I, 6-10 Grade II, 11-15 Grade III, 16-20 Grade IV.

Objective: The present study describes the distribution of atherosclerotic lesions in the coronary arteries of chow-fed 60-week-old male ApoE(-/-), 17-beta-estradiol-treated ApoE(-/-), and wild-type mice.

Methods And Results: The histologic examination of coronary arteries in 12 ApoE(-/-) and 6 wild-type mice, in contrast to the distribution of atherosclerosis in human coronary arteries, reveals that the major lesions in the mouse are located in the valve sinus, including the origins of the coronary arteries. These retrovalvular lesions either stop abruptly at the orifice of the common coronary artery or extend a short distance onto the arterial trunks.

The columinescence effect of dysprosium-Tiron system by lanthanum was discovered and the characteristics of fluorescence spectra of the system were studied. The effect of the experimental conditions on the fluorescence intensity was defined. By adding suitable amount of lanthanum to dysprosium-Tiron system, the fluorescence intensity can be enhanced by about 40 times.
