Radioresistance and immunosuppression remain the major obstacles in the anti-cancer treatments. This work studies the functions of sialic acid binding Ig like lectin 9 (SIGLEC9) and its related molecules in radioresistance and immunosuppression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The single-cell analysis showed that SIGLEC9 was mainly expressed on tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs).

School of Pharmacy, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jinan 250355, China; State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University, Qingdao 266237, China. Electronic address:

Nervous system diseases (NSDs) are characterized by a wide range of symptoms, a complex pathophysiology, an unclear etiology, a great deal of variation in treatment response, and lengthy therapy cycles, all of which pose considerable hurdles to clinical treatment. A traditional valuable medicine known as Ganoderma lucidum (GL) has a significant role to play in preserving health and treating diseases. Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides (GLP) is one of the cardinal effective active ingredients of GL, which has a number of pharmacological actions, including liver protection, immune regulation, antioxidant activity, anticancer activity, antibacterial activity, and antiviral activity.

Herein, a strand displacement amplification (SDA)-assisted CRISPR/Cas12a (LbCpf1) electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was fabricated for ultrasensitive identification of (Sa)-16S rDNA. A porphyrinic Zr metal-organic framework (MOF) (PCN-224) nanomaterial was prepared as the coreactant accelerator, which promoted the conversion of SO and SO, thus enhancing the reaction with CdS quantum dots (QDs) and amplifying the ECL emission signal. Meanwhile, with the presence of Sa-16S rDNA, the auxiliary probes and primers stimulated the SDA reaction under the action of Klenow fragment (3'-5' exo-) and Nt.

The structural design of multiple functional components could enhance the synergistic catalytic performance of MoS-based composites in enzyme-like catalysis. Herein, one-dimensional (1D) Fe-MoS microtubes were designed to prepare tubular Fe-doped MoS composites with MoO microrods as self-sacrificing precursors. Remarkably, the results indicated that the generated ammonia released from the sulfidation process led to the dissolution of MoO cores and the generation of a tubular structure.

For ratiometrically imaging peroxynitrite (ONOO) in living cells, we devised and fabricated a novel fluorescent nanoprobe, NC-NP, in this study. To achieve ratiometric fluorescence response towards ONOO, NC-NP used 3-(2-benzothiazolyl) coumarin (Cou-Bz) as the internal reference and 1,8-naphthimide derivative (Naph-PN) as a fluorescent ONOO probe. These compounds were incorporated into an amphiphilic block polymer called Pluronic F-127.

Drug and therapeutics committee interventions in managing irrational drug use and antimicrobial stewardship in China.

Front Pharmacol

July 2022

Department of Pharmacy, Shandong Provincial Third Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, China.

This study aimed to investigate the key points in the transformation of the functions of the Drug and Therapeutics Committee (DTC) of the Shandong Provincial Third Hospital and how to provide full authority to its role in the control of rational drug use, especially in the management of antibiotic use. A prescription review management group, antimicrobial stewardship group, and rational drug use service group were established under the DTC. From January 2016 to December 2021, each group played a role in promoting rational drug use and antimicrobial stewardship.

The preparation of amorphous solid dispersions using polymers is a commonly used formulation strategy for enhancing the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs. However, a single polymer often does not bring significantly enhance the solubility or amorphous stability of a poorly water-soluble drug. We found an application of a unique and novel binary polymeric blend in the preparation of solid dispersions.

Purpose: To explore the effect of dextran sulfate (DS) on the angiogenesis, invasion, and migration of gastric cancer cells by interfering with the polarization of M2-type macrophages.

Methods: The infiltration of M2-type macrophages and microvascular density in gastric cancer and paracancerous tissues were analyzed using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. The effects of DS on M2-type macrophages and the angiogenesis in metastatic tumors were investigated in the nude mice intraperitoneal metastasis model using immunohistochemistry and western blot.

Objective: To observe the effect of "Shugan Tiaoshen"(liver-soothing and mind-regulating) acupuncture on behavior reactions, opioid receptor expressions in the anterior cingulate cortex tissue and inflammatory factors in the serum in migraine rats, in order to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of migraine.

Methods: In the first part of this study, forty male Wistar rats were randomized into control, model, routine acupuncture and "Shugan Tiaoshen" acupuncture groups (=10/group), and in the second part, other 40 more male Wistar rats were randomized into low, medium and high dosage of blocker of μopioid receptor (OPRM)CTOP5 and PBS groups (=10/group, for validating the involvement of opioid receptor in the effect of "Shugan Tiaoshen"). The migraine model was established by subcutaneous injection of glyceryl trinitrate.

Background: The number of students enrolled in higher education in China accounts for more than one-fifth of the world, and universities, as a community of faculty, staff and scholars, currently do not have a scale that specifically assesses the well-being of the population in the environment of Chinese universities. However, the University of Pittsburgh has developed a comprehensive well-being scale, referred to as the Pitt Wellness Scale, specifically to measure people's well-being in a university environment.

Aims: Investigate the psychometric properties of the Pitt Wellness Scale in Chinese university environmental samples.

Carbon-supported bimetallic NiCo nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as attractive catalysts and adsorbents for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and separation of histidine-rich (His-rich) protein recently due to their low cost, high catalytic activity and good affinity for His-rich protein. In this study, new strongly coupled nickel-cobalt alloy/N,P,S co-doped carbon (NPSC) nanocages are rationally designed chemical etching of the ZIF-67 dodecahedron with Ni under sonication at room temperature, followed by poly(cyclotriphosphazene--4,4'-sulfonyldiphenol) (PZS) coating and subsequent carbonization treatment in a nitrogen atmosphere. When evaluated as a catalyst for 4-NP or an adsorbent for His-rich protein, the as-prepared NiCo@NPSC nanocages obtained at 700 °C show better performance than those obtained at other temperatures (500 and 900 °C).

Efficient Johnson-S Mixture Model for Segmentation of CT Liver Image.

J Healthc Eng

April 2022

Department of Medical Imaging, Shandong Medical College, Jinan, Shandong, China.

To overcome the problem that the traditional Gaussian mixture model (GMM) cannot well describe the skewness distribution of the gray-level histogram of a liver CT slice, we propose a novel segmentation method for liver CT images by introducing the Johnson-SB mixture model (JMM). The Johnson-SB model not only has a flexible asymmetrical distribution but also covers a variety of other distributions as well. In this article, the parameter optimization formulas for JMM were derived by employing the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm and maximum likelihood.
