Corneal substitutes with structural and compositional characteristics resembling those of natural corneas have attracted considerable attention. However, biomimicking the complex hierarchical organization of corneal stroma is challenging. In this study, humanized corneal stroma-like adhesive patches (HCSPs) are prepared through a multi-step process.

Despite significant advancements in hydrogels in recent years, their application in corneal repair remains limited by several challenges, including unfitted curvatures, inferior mechanical properties, and insufficient reactive oxygen species (ROS)-scavenging activities. To address these issues, this study introduces a 3D-printed corneal scaffold with nanocomposite hydrogel consisting of gelatin methacrylate (GelMA), poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA), Laponite, and dopamine. GelMA and PEGDA act as matrix materials with photo-crosslinking abilities.

Dry eye syndrome (DES) is a prevalent condition linked to oxidative stress from Orthokeratology (OK) lens use, causing significant discomfort and impacting quality of life. Herein, this study investigates the role of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in modulating T cell responses, particularly Th17 cells and IL-17A production, which are central to DES pathogenesis. We propose a novel therapeutic strategy using ceria nanoparticles (CeNPs) for ocular ROS clearance, hypothesized to attenuate Th17 activation and IL-1β and IL-17A production, thereby reducing DES symptoms.

In recent years, concerns have escalated regarding eye health problems arising from Light-emitting diode (LED), which emits high-energy blue light (BL), potentially causing corneal epithelial dysfunctions (CEpD). Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying this damage remain poorly comprehended. This study endeavors to explore the specific mechanisms through which BL exposure induces CEpD.

This study aims to observe the clinical efficacy and safety of rigid gas permeable corneal contact lenses (RGP-CLs) wearing after femtosecond laser-assisted minimally invasive lamellar keratoplasty (FL-MILK) in progressive and advanced keratoconus eyes. Twenty-five patients (27 eyes) fitted with RGP-CLs after FL-MILK were enrolled, and 22 grading-matched keratoconus patients (23 eyes) as a control group. Corneal morphological data, diopter, best corrected vision, corneal endothelium, non-invasive tear film rupture time (NIBUT), corneal perception and comfort questionnaire were analysed before and after wearing RGP-CLs.

NLRP3 inflammasome is a cytosolic multiprotein complex formed in response to exogenous environmental stress and cellular damage. The three major components of the NLRP3 inflammasome are the innate immunoreceptor protein NLRP3, the adapter protein apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a C-terminal caspase activation and recruitment domain, and the inflammatory protease enzyme caspase-1. The integrated NLRP3 inflammasome triggers the activation of caspase-1, leading to GSDMD-dependent pyroptosis and facilitating the maturation and release of inflammatory cytokines, namely interleukin (IL)-18 and IL-1β.

Background: To evaluate the long-term effectiveness of orthokeratology (ortho-K) lenses with small treatment zone (STZ) or conventional treatment zone (CTZ) in controlling axial elongation in children with myopia as well as the impact on visual quality. We also sought to determine the effect of retinal visual signal quality on axial elongation.
Methods: This is a prospective randomized controlled study.

Severe conjunctival damage can lead to extensive ocular cicatrisation, fornix shortening, and even ocular surface failure, resulting in significant vision impairment. Conjunctival reconstruction is the primary therapeutic strategy for these clinical conjunctival diseases. However, there have been limited studies on induced differentiation of conjunctival epithelial cells derived from stem cells.

A critical shortage of donor corneas exists worldwide. Hydrogel patches with a biological architecture and functions that simulate those of native corneas have garnered considerable attention. This study introduces a stromal structure replicating corneal patch (SRCP) composed of a decellularized cornea-templated nanotubular skeleton, recombinant human collagen, and methacrylated gelatin, exhibiting a similar ultrastructure and transmittance (above 80 %) to natural cornea.

Background: Macular hole (MH) is a rare complication of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and has an adverse impact on residual visual function. At present, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood and surgical experience is limited.
Methods: We reviewed the medical records and optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans in a cohort of eight eyes of seven RP patients with MH in order to report their OCT features and vitreoretinal surgical prognosis.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of acoustic vibration on the pluripotency of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and evaluate cell proliferation and self-renewal ability post-treatment.
Methods: The human ES cell line H1 was used for the experiments. hESCs were treated with an acoustic vibration device.

A 35-year-old female presented with a chief complaint of exudates from the outer corner of the left eye for more than half a year after cosmetic lateral canthoplasty. A fistula was seen in the skin of the left eye 5 mm from the lateral canthus, with clear fluid inside it. Left eyelid fistula was diagnosed and surgically removed.

Purpose: This study aims to reveal the immunopathogenesis of the high-risk corneal transplantation using a comparative proteomic approach.
Methods: The immunological properties of ocular tissues (including corneal grafts, aqueous humour, and iris-ciliary body) were analysed using a high-risk rabbit corneal transplantation model employing a comparative proteomic approach.
Results: The corneal grafts revealed a dramatic increase in the immune response both at the early (postoperative day 7) and rejection stages, along with the appearance of transplantation stress-induced cellular senescence in the early stage.

The activation of innate immunity following transplantation has been identified as a crucial factor in allograft inflammation and rejection. However, the role of cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase (cGAS)/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling-mediated innate immunity in the pathogenesis of allograft rejection remains unclear. Utilizing a well-established murine model of corneal transplantation, we demonstrated increased expression of cGAS and STING in rejected-corneal allografts compared with syngeneic (Syn) and normal (Nor) corneas, along with significant activation of the cGAS/STING pathway, as evidenced by the enhanced phosphorylation of TANK-binding kinase 1and interferon regulatory factor 3.
