Rationale: Lamotrigine (LTG)-associated extensive hyperpigmentation is rare and may persist for a long time or even become permanent. LTG-associated cutaneous adverse reaction (CAR) manifests initially as mild maculopapular exanthema (MPE). The first step in CAR therapy is to immediately discontinue the offending LTG for predicting evolution to mild or severe forms not always possible.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of semaglutide combined with metformin in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients who are overweight or obese.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search across multiple databases including Wanfang, CNKI, Chinese Biomedical Literature, VIP, Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. Studies were screened to include randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing semaglutide combined with metformin versus metformin alone in T2DM patients with obesity or who are overweight.

Purpose: To investigate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and subjective well-being (SWB) of children aged 9-12 years in eastern China, and examine concordance within child self-reported and parent proxy-assessed.
Methods: Data was collected from 9 to 12 years old children (including their parents) in Shandong Province in 2018. Participants self-completed a hard-copy questionnaire including Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D), Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL)™ 4.

Background: Recently accumulated evidence indicates a potential association between COVID-19 and elevated susceptibility to cancer, including male genital cancer. However, the causal nature of this relationship remains unclear.
Methods: In this Mendelian randomization (MR) study, we investigated the potential causal relationship between COVID-19 and male genital cancer using genetic variants as instrumental variables.

Introduction: Medical personnel should be in close proximity and high frequency of contact with patients, and be exposed to physical, biological and chemical risk factors for a long time. The incidence of various occupational exposures is high. however, there is still a lack of the medical staff Occupational Protection Core Competence Evaluation Index system with high reliability and validity.

Objectives: To determine the causal association between genetically predicted obesity and the risk of hip osteoarthritis.
Methods: We performed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to analyze the association between body mass index (BMI) and hip osteoarthritis using pooled-level genome-wide association study (GWAS) data. The inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR‒Egger, and weighted median methods were used to estimate the causal association.

To explore the relationship between gene polymorphism of killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) and its ligand-specific human leukocyte antigen C (HLA-C) and Graves' disease (GD). Case-control study. A total of 118 unrelated GD patients (GD group) admitted to Shandong Provincial Hospital from January 2011 to December 2017 and 108 age-and sex-matched healthy controls (healthy control group) were included.

Aging is accompanied with progressive deterioration of immune responses and tissue's function. Using 12-month-old mice as model, we showed that conditioned medium of human cord blood mesenchymal stem cells (CBMSC-CM) significantly reduced the population percentage of CD3CD335 NK and CD4CD25 regulatory T-cells in peripheral blood. The CBMSC-CM administration also increased naïve T-cells number and restored the ratio of naïve to memory T-cells in CD4 T-cells population.

Objective: This work aims to screen drugs for preventing and treating vascular calcification. We screened a series of 3-arylcoumarins for the detection of vascular calcification-associated factors using human aortic vascular smooth muscle cells.
Results: We found that compounds and significantly inhibited alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity similar to aminoguanidine hydrochloride (AGH) in a cellular model of AGEs-induced calcification.

Wound healing may be disrupted by lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and excessive oxidative stress, which can lead to undesirable consequences. The haematopoietic cell-specific protein 1-associated protein X-1 (HAX-1) is a mitochondrial matrix protein that regulates mitochondrial function. This study aimed to comprehensively identify the role of HAX-1 in the inhibition of LPS-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis in human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs).

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is associated with an increased risk of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and Wnt/β-catenin/GSK3β have been demonstrated to play pathogenic roles in diabetes. In this study, we evaluated the roles of these two pathways in T1DM-induced cardiomyopathy in rats.

Xianglian pill, a TCM prescription, consists of Rhizome Coptidis and Radix Aucklandiae, and has been used to treat gastrointestinal disease for many years. Berberine, jatrorrhizin, coptisine and palmatine are four representative alkaloids in Xianglian pill. Knowing that the drug disposal process in vivo is closely related to the toxicity and efficacy of a drug, it is important to classify the disposal properties of these alkaloids.

Background: The proposed mechanisms of impaired wound healing in diabetes involve sustained inflammation, excess oxidative stress and compromised agiogenesis. Hydrogen sulfide (HS) has been reported to have multiple biological activities. We aim to investigate the role of HS in impaired wound healing in ob/ob mice and explore the possible mechanisms involved.

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of hydrogen sulfide on high glucose-induced mouse podocyte (MPC) injury and the underlying mechanisms. Mouse podocytes were randomly divided into 4 groups, including high glucose (HG), normal glucose (NG), normal glucose + DL-propargylglycine (PPG), and high glucose + NaHS (HG + NaHS) groups for treatment. Then, ZO-2, nephrin, β-catenin, and cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) protein expression levels were determined by western blot.

Accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in glomerular mesangium correlates with loss of renal function in diabetic nephropathy. However, the mechanisms underlying are still incompletely known. In the present study, we explored the role of caveolae in ECM production in rat mesangial cells (MCs) stimulated by high glucose or transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), and investigated the possible mechanisms.
